Buying a digital camera..

And I'm not looking to spend more than $400.

One that has caught my eye with some good reviews is the Kodak cx7430, which is $399.

If anyone has any good advice as to which one around $400 worth be worth a look, feel free to let us know!

And if the digital camera gurus are just going to give me the 'you wont get much for $400' crap, then dont bother.

probably should go for atleast a 5 megapixel. they can produce great quality photos

seen some sony ones for 500 bucks but perhaps if you wait a tad you might be able 2 get one for 400

Just want it for a camera - I'm not some photographer guy.

Just to muck around with, take on holidays and to capture some quality drunken-lads moments

Basically just for general use.

Just set your resolution to the lowest possible for the first couple of months and it should be OK. You'll still needs to take them off the card regularly.

The 16 will do okay for the drunken-lads bits, and the mucking around.
It will not do to take on holidays - you'll get about 20 high-quality images on the card, or 40-50 low quality ones.

On the 128MB card, you'd get 320 high-quality images...

5 megapixel doesn't mean you get the best "quailty" photos. Just means you are able to enlarge the photo to A1 size without too much noise. Which most people don't do. Infact you probably can push a 3 megapixel to do just that. Look at the lens, look at the brands you are buying. 3-4megapixel will do any job just fine.

You watch a lot of the 3megapixel cameras (mostly from canon) will drop price next month. As soon as next year many more will drop.

Most photography labs around aussie and overseas can download your card/memory onto a cd.

i bought a Nikon Coolpix 3200 over the weekend, with a 128mb SD Card! Absolutely love it...phone cost me $369 and the SD card cost me $50! thought the phone price was a bargain...and its perfect for what i want it for, which is just recreational use, holiday stuff etc!

on a 4x6in photo, you wont tell any difference between a 2,3,4 megapixel camera. If you get a nikon you might find your photos a tad sharper than other brands.

When you start printing out photos to A3 sizes thats when you'll notice the difference.

This is good advice, and with that in mind i'd be recommending the canon ixus 430 for about the price you're looking for. I have the ixus 500 it's 5meg instead of 4.3meg but they're basically similar cameras, and they take fantastic photos using good lenses.

What's the difference? Do you need both optical and digital lens? What x do you need? And does the strength of your lens have anything to do with the megapixels?
