G'day guys, I've recently decided I'd like to take up guitar, but really have no idea about how much to expect a basic guitar to cost. I've heard acoustics are harder to play, but I like the sound of them better, and it would then be easier to make a transition to electric. Does anyone know of a good, cheap starter for me? The cheaper the better, as I'm not exactly known for my dedication.

Just go for something like a cheap Yamaha at around $200 - $300. The sound isn't great but if you want something cheap and you don't know if you will be dedicated then this will be just fine.

TS would be mad to pay for a Maton for his first guitar. My drummer just bought a reasonably priced Tanglewood and it is absolutely beautiful, though it might be just out of the first guitar price range as well.

There are plenty of good starter brands around. If you have a friend who plays guitar just have him/her come along and try them out. And don't be talked into paying more than $200-300.
