Why? Why go and watch Spotty u12's? Or does that mean you are one of his mates who played with him? If so, good on you for sticking up for your friend, but I am not trying to drag him down - merely pointing out he is young and currently being over-loaded by expectation. All he needs out of this season is to get through injury free, learn about full-time footy and about the different things required when you are part of a senior footy side. To be honest, if he said he was going to finish school and play at Willi all year, I would not be phased - first year draftees need to watch, learn and develop - any games they get are a bonus.

Without wanting to get into the 'Jets have been missing talented kids for years' quote, I guess that is the reason that all those kids in the Jets zone have been plucked straight from the WRFL/School Footy just like young Wood who the Dogs drafted this year...and why Mark Neeld is now coaching at Collingwood, and Leigh Tudor at Geelong, and Garry Hocking at the Falcons (who just had 7 drafted) etc etc...and if you dont think the coaches pick the teams, then you are simply delusional.

nah far to old to have played with him involved at club, will be an interesting year for him i agree, finish school good point

as for jets the less said bout them the better

Wouldn't surprise me if he had a quick rise like Harbrow did last year. He may start in Willi 2's depending on how he goes in the praccies, but I think he may finish the year with 3-5 AFL matches under his belt.

Or he could do a Everitt which i think he will. He will break into the team after the mid season break and play the rest of the season. ;)

In all honesty i want him to play at least 1 game next year so he at least gets a touch for AFL football and what its all about. Then the upcoming pre season and the rest of the season he knows what to work on to cementing his spot into the starting 22. :thumbsu:

After reading through most of these posts its obvious that our hearts are in the right place.

I think MJP is making a lot of sense though, however you are coming across a little strong in making your point. The guys that are pro Ward debuting in 08 are very excited for obvious reasons. But overall and as MJPs been pointing out he's still just a kid...

Patience is a virtue and the cream will always rise to the top. I'm happy to nurture him through in order to get long term success. Although I appreciate the enthuisiasm shown by some posters.

Go Mc Doggies and if Ward grabs a ones spot in 08 then its a bonus!

In response to your comment above - Good. I tried the gentle approach and it simply didn't work.

As an aside, I am pro-Ward debuting...just not pro-Ward being annointed the next saviour.

Anyone who read the draft threads knows I have been pumping up his tyres since the start of the 2007 TAC Cup season, but there is a difference between being drafted, playing AFL Footy and impacting AFL footy.
