Calling all experts...Trim the Carlton Squad List.

Ok I am bored, but I have been reading so many threads on here by the experts. Here is the Carlton team list, now what I want to know is who should be kept and who should go. We obviously have passengers, soft, unaccountable leaders and generally players who are just dead wood. If you were the one trying to shape our future with the list we have at this point in time, who would you keep and who would you send packing?

1 Andrew Walker
2 Jordan Russell - Much maligned, has he improved? Skills aren't up to it.
3 Marc Murphy
4 Bryce Gibbs
5 Chris Judd
6 Kade Simpson
7 Adam Bentick - Afraid for him, injuries have really held him back.
8 Matthew Kreuzer
10 Richard Hadley - What's going on here?
11 Robert Warnock
12 Mitch Robinson
13 Chris Yarran
14 Brad Fisher - Can't kick 40 meters, not sure if he will be with us.
15 Steven Browne
16 Shaun Grigg
17 Setanta O'hAilpin
18 Paul Bower
19 Eddie Betts
20 Rhys O'Keeffe
21 Mark Austin
22 Shaun Hampson
23 Adam Hartlett - Unfortunately I think this is goodbye.
24 Nick Stevens - I would try for a trade, if not it's goodbye.
25 Brendan Fevola
26 Joe Anderson
27 Dennis Armfield
28 Cameron Cloke - Does he have a future with us?
29 Heath Scotland - Very worried with Heath, up & down 09
30 Jarrad Waite
31 Jordan Bannister
32 Bret Thornton
33 Ryan Houlihan - Lots of question, is he a passenger?
34 Simon Wiggins
35 Caleb Tiller
37 Jake Edwards - Hasn't had many chances, won't be on our list.
40 Michael Jamison
44 Andrew Carrazzo - Trade bait? No takers? Disposal skills.
45 Aaron Joseph
46 David Ellard
Chris Johnson - Picked up for his kicking skills, but has be impressed??
Darren Pfeiffer
Greg Bentley - Elevated, but question marks on him?
Jeff Gartlett
Lachie Hill
Luke Stanton
Sam Jacobs - Elevated in 09, lots of potential.

So take the time, and consider how you could shape this list.

Russell: give him a little more time i know thats what we've been saying for a while now but i think hes shown some promise

Harlett: Goodbye cya later no questions asked

Houlihan: Best is great and Worst is deplorable and is too often a passenger

Chris Johnson: I think he should get 1 more injury but seems to be a bit injury prone

Nick Stevens: Think hes learned his lesson and that he knows that this club now has a bit of depth (but from friday i dont know anymore) and he knows that his spot will depend on each game and that if does slip there are replacements knocking

Greg Bentley: Didn't like him at all but i think hes attitude and work ethic make up for his disposal and skill which is sometimes the opposite with some other players

Carrots: Has picked up his dispoal a bit but dunno if that has been enough but dont think hell get the flick

But one things for sure i think Brett Ratten is a little to close to the players for my liking and that some players are getting off soft when it comes down to crunch games.

Axed: Harlett, Houlihan, Cloke, Bentick

Maybe: Fisher, Stevens and Carrots

And unfortunately for us, I don't think these guys have much trade value either.

Adam Hartlett Not enough for AFL standard. List clogger

Adam Bentick GORNEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Brad Fisher The game has past him by, trade him to the Bulldogs for a 4th/5th rnd draft pick if possible, otherwise delist him

Cam Cloke The rise of Austin, O'Haliplin, Jacobs, and the probably inclusion of Warnock in a couple of weeks means there is no longer anymore room on this list for Cloke.

Simon Wiggins Chief's been a good club stalwart and a popular player at the club, but it's time for the golden handshake

Jake Edwards Finished at this club, just isn't good enough.

Jury's still out on the rookie listed players, but the only ones I would retain for next year are Garlett, Sauce, Lachie Hill and Stanton.

Bentley's disposal is woeful and shouldn't be retained next year, ditto Michelle.

Yer, exactley

I think for the trade with hadley we gave away a pick which ended up being Brad Dalziel another bad move i believe

how many people do u think will be dropped this week against the roos
and who??

Edwards, Hartlett, Bentick are all gone. Wiggins probably next in line.

Hadley, Fisher and Cloke are all in trouble. I think Fisher is still contracted so that will save him. Not sure about the status of the other two.

Houlihan won't go. Maybe in the next year or two but don't think he'll be delisted this season. Same with Stevens. Might be traded but we'll get very little for him and he's contracted besides. Very good player at his best.

Scotland will stay. Had an injury interrupted preseason which I think has affected him greatly this season. Hopefully an injury free summer will see him get back to his best in 2010.

Not overly concerned about rookie delistings but Joseph is a certainty to be elevated. Garlett might be kept on and be our nominated rookie next season (don't think Fev will be eligible for veteran status till 2011). Jacobs a chance to be elevated and a call will have to be made on Ellard either way.

What's the thoughts on Ellard? I know one person is Ellard's pusher, no names need to be mentioned.

Re: Calling all experts...Trim the Carlton Squad List.

1 Andrew Walker - Much excitement around Andrew Walker when he was drafted in 2003 2#. Adam Cooney was above him at number 1#. He has had a few up and down years with his shoulder and I hope that we can see his true potential this year and for the next few years on our list.
He is the fittest at our club, even past Chris Judd. Safe.

2 Jordan Russell - We had a chance to trade JR off to Port Adelaide a few years back...but we persuaded him to stay on our list. He has had a up and down year. But at the moment is impressing allot of doubters (celtic_pride). Plays a important role in our team. Safe.

7 Adam Bentick - Injuries have really held him back. The only way he will survive this year is if he plays consistent and decent football for the Ants. If not he will be delisted.

10 Richard Hadley - Up and down season. At the start of the year we say some fantastic games from Hadley. But he was inconsistent and was dropped from the side. Playing consistent games in the reserves and is always in the best. Too old to trade...delist/keep him on list?

14 Brad Fisher - Just went backwards rapidly. Played some great games and some shockers. Keep or trade.

22 Shaun Hampson - If the GC or another club gave us a decent deal for Hampson I would be tempted to take it. No doubt that he could be a decent player. Trade or keep?

23 Adam Hartlett - Sorry...goodbye. Maybe Port would love another brother with knee injuries?

24 Nick Stevens - I would try for a trade if not depth player for another year.

27 Dennis Armfield - All he can do is run...Ratten loves him so no doubt he will stay on our list.

28 Cameron Cloke - Does he have a future with us? - Good question..

29 Heath Scotland - Up and down...Trade or keep?

31 Jordan Bannister - Had a brilliant game against the Saints...

33 Ryan Houlihan - Not sure...?

34 Simon Wiggins - He knows that his time is slowly coming to a end. Needs to impress. He might still find there isn't a spot on our list.

37 Jake Edwards - Sorry...gone.

46 David Ellard - Too small, can't doubt that he wants to be the best, love his tackling... Safe?

Chris Johnson - Picked up for his kicking skills...but can't hit a target...Don't like him in the backline at all. Gets beaten regularly in the air. Depth at best.

Darren Pfeiffer - out for half of the year. Back into the Ants. Delist.

Greg Bentley - Lacks football brains...but tries his best and will put in 100 percent. This is why we gave him a chance. Don't think he will make AFL. Safe.

Lachie Hill - Disapeared...Delisted.

Luke Stanton - recruited for our backline. Apparently sometimes lacks football brains..but haven't seen him play. Safe.

Sam Jacobs - Elevated in 09, lots of potential.

Delisted: Hill, Bentick, Pfeiffer, Hartlett, Edwards.
Trouble: Cloke, Fisher, Wiggins.
Trade bait: Scotland, Hampson, Fisher.

Kade Simpson, not sure about him. Tends to go missing when the pressure is on, could be used as bait, or do we keep him.

Kade Simpson, not sure about him. Tends to go missing when the pressure is on, could be used as bait, or do we keep him.

Simpson is definantly a Keeper.

What's the thoughts on Ellard? I know one person is Ellard's pusher, no names need to be mentioned.

I really like this young kid, ive seen him play a few times and he has some talent,
I'm hoping he gets elevated for next year and gets some games in the Navy Blue :)

As for the list changes, im really not sure who will go at the end of the year,
Russell is safe- he's stepped up this year and really improved :)
I think Bentick is possibly gone- hasnt really done much in the VFL to get a recall,
Not too sure about hadley, he had some good games at the start of the year
Hampson- i hope we dont trade this young kid, his futures looking bright, he just needs to work on getting everything working nicely together, his chasing has improved, which is good :)
I think if Hartlett can get totally over his hamstring problems he should get another chance, yes he's had a lot of chances, but his form hasnt kept him out of the team, most of the time its been his injuries, yes he has had a slow comeback, he's just getting used to the rhythm of afl,
i just have a feeling there'll be a lot of changes at the end of the year, not sure who the commitee will choose, just have a feeling a lot of players are gone.

Simpson safe easy.

To be fair on him, opposition teams know how damaging he can be and try to exploit him, whether it be forcing him to his wrong foot (an unfortunate big weakness of his) or trying to shut his thin frame away from the contests.

But he does, for the most part, work hard and when he's on and we utlilize him well we know how damn good he can be.

I'd be all for him for the VC TBH. Just have a feeling with the extra responsibility he'd be even better, as he's more or less shown in the past.

I would dangle Simmo as a bit of bait. If we get a bite and a good deal then yes I would trade him, if not keep him.

Re: Calling all experts...Trim the Carlton Squad List.

1 Andrew Walker - outstanding athlete but poor skills - offers a spark but we need to improve as a unit. Would look at a trade if the price is right
2 Jordan Russell - has a real crack and is one to take no sh!t - again tho, poor skills
3 Marc Murphy - disposal needs to improve
4 Bryce Gibbs- disposal needs to improve
5 Chris Judd - needs support and to be protected
6 Kade Simpson - as per Walker
7 Adam Bentick - time to go
8 Matthew Kreuzer - must play CHF - I said last week maybe time for a gamble on Jacobs' fitness to support Hampson to allow this
10 Richard Hadley - hard to tell if he's out of favour but there are still plenty of 'slow' mids playing - Ling, Cross, Mitchell....
11 Robert Warnock - Q. If we knew Big Robbie would miss the year, would we have traded for him and would that have affected who we drafted
12 Mitch Robinson - love his endeavour - needs better skills
13 Chris Yarran - glimpses of brilliance but understandable q's arise over his selection - time will tell
14 Brad Fisher - Can't kick 40 meters, can't/doesn't chase, average ground skills
15 Steven Browne - needs to be 15 - 20% better
16 Shaun Grigg - like this bloke but his skills let him down
17 Setanta O'hAilpin - always been a fan and has repaid faith recently - sad his progress was interupted
18 Paul Bower - wasn't sure early but thought his efforts Fri showed why he's highly regarded
1
9 Eddie Betts - small forwards need to kick 30-40 goals - has done his job
20 Rhys O'Keeffe
21 Mark Austin - like the way he plays - needs to be 15 - 20% better
22 Shaun Hampson - how people slam this bloke is unreasonable - needs to be 15 - 20% better but signs are there and when he arrives he'll be a star
23 Adam Hartlett - would retain
24 Nick Stevens - no trade available - simply needs to show commitment
25 Brendan Fevola - I believe in team rules and discipline and Fev too often fails to show full commitment - I'm not confident of ultimate success next season and would look at a trade if we could get 1st round pick and quality young player
26 Joe Anderson - personally think he's better option than Armfield, needs to be 15 - 20% better
27 Dennis Armfield - has a dip but shocking decision making and skills
28 Cameron Cloke - don't think he's got it - would cringe to see him rucking or failing to apply defensive pressure to rebounding opponents - there's a HUGE gap between VFL to AFL
29 Heath Scotland - reckon his best is yesterdays
30 Jarrad Waite - best at CHB
31 Jordan Bannister - has the tools to be a tagger/ medium defender
32 Bret Thornton - I know he's got his fans but I'm not one. With the role he plays, he needs to chop off more incoming ball and then break lines with giv and go - he holds play up and crabs the ball forward - one of the reasons why our forward line is dysfunctioal - fails when given 1 on 1 roles
33 Ryan Houlihan - If he plays as he did vs Swans then keep. Otherwise bye bye
34 Simon Wiggins - I'm all for hard players but you have to have some skills
35 Caleb Tiller
37 Jake Edwards - 2005 recruit - 5 games???? refresh list
40 Michael Jamison - Love this blke's endeavour and hopefully injuries will subside
44 Andrew Carrazzo - Trade bait - Disposal skills are huge problem
45 Aaron Joseph - cracker
46 David Ellard - time to elevate
Chris Johnson - really though grabbing him would correct issue of moving ball from backlines but has failed to deliver
Darren Pfeiffer
Greg Bentley - plays ugly footy and isn't very effective at it
Jeff Gartlett - needs weight but real livewire
Lachie Hill
Luke Stanton
Sam Jacobs - Elevated in 09, lots of potential. Will be 4th tall

We have a lot of blokes who by Rd 1 2010 need to be 15 - 20 % better with their understanding and skills. We have the opportunity to trade some fans favourites to improve the list and we have some cloggers. I would hope that Bradley, Williams, Harvey etc can get this group to where they need to be to have a crack in 2011.

I would dangle Simmo as a bit of bait. If we get a bite and a good deal then yes I would trade him, if not keep him.

l am not quite sure when Simpson has just signed a new contract that this would be considered or suggested, he is still one of our better players, one of the few that can actually break the lines.

Stevens is also under contract for a further 12 months and will remain, highly unlikely any club would be interested, he will return this week and hopefully put in some strong performances.

Hartlett, Bentley, Edwards,Wiggins,Bentick will be lucky to survive, Fisher,Scotland depending on contractual situation may also go.

Just a few things I'll highlight based on previoius posts:

1. Nick Stevens is untouchable, he'll come good. The guy has been a premium midfielder for 8 or so years, he's bound to have a rough patch.

2. Carrazzo has been VERY good since returning from injury, he plays a key negating role and has added a great goalkicking dimension to his game. His field kicking is good, he does not turn it over any more than most of our team.

3. Houlihan, Setanta are keeprs.

4. Cloke, Hartlett, Bentick and a few others are goners.

On another note, we should make a huge play for Luke Ball, he is a leader, and would be the perfect player to free Judd. McGuire would be good too, but I think our backline is good with Jamison, Bower, Waite, Thorton and Austin.

I would like our resident expert DBLUES opinion on our list.
