Ratten interested in him. if we got him wouuld let our rucks have a year to develp while we are still winning hitouts.

From all accounts the game officially passed him by yesterday.

Seriously Ratten must be being polite,White for me is going backwards. He is on the outer in Melbourne, who have the worst side for years and he is near 33.

The other thing his 195cm,like nearly 10 cm shorter then most Ruckmen these days.

He was a good player a long time ago but we should learn from the mistakes we done before if you really want to take a chance on someone being cut their is only one name Ben Cousins.

The thing with Ben you will get goals created and he will kick goals like he has all through his career. People may talk how good Judd was at the Eagles but they forget Cousins was a freak when he played,no Kerr could match him.

White WON'T be at Carlton next year. ;)

As for Clokey, hasn't he been brilliant for us in recent weeks! Was tempted to start a thread along these lines last night but noticed other threads had already covered it. Cam's current form would indicate we may have a very effective BIG support for Fev up forward. Yes he'll always be blue collar but geez, he could just end up being the Big Earl in our forward structure. :thumbsu:

What more does Cam need to do to shake the bluecollar tag, the notion that he's lacking in the talent department, that we will not win our next premiership as long as he is in our best 22 and that he's only in the side to do the bullocking work until Kreuze and Hammer's bodies bulk up a bit more?

At 195cm he is about as undersized as an AFL ruckman could be and he does not have a freakish vertical leap to compensate for it. He has always been a forward who could pinch hit in the ruck, but we are playing him as a #1 ruck because we really need him there ie. we're playing him out of position.

He may not be one of our quicker players but not many players of his size are.

On the positive side, he is great overhead and one fast becoming one of our best pack marks. He's definitely one of the best kicks (field and set shot) on our list and has the ability to roost some serious long bombs. He's still very young, especially for a player of his size and I wouldn't be surprised if he developed into a long range set shot close to the caliber of Fev.

I've heard many suggest that he doesn't have good endurance, but Nathan Buckley said that he has a very good tank for such a big man (trumps BF armchair experts for mine).

In spite of becoming much more lean since moving over to Carlton he is still a very strong big body who really knows how to throw his weight around, and he always give 100%.

He also reads the play well and is very good at finding space to lead into and provide options all over the ground.

With age still very much on his side and his great work ethic there is every reason to believe that he still has a lot scope for further improvement as he continues to develop.

Considering how desperate we are for a second tall forward option to work together with Fev, I'm very curious how so many seem so convinced that there won't be a place in the side for him once Kreuze and Hammer have another 2 pre-seasons of physical development and can take over rucking duties.

On the contrary, once Kreuze and Hammer take over rucking duties we will have the luxury of being able to play Cam in his natural position inside our forward 50 and we should be a much better side for it! :thumbsu:

Excellent post. Cloke is just way too big for the second defender that he will get. If we play this guy deep i think he is capable of 45+ goals. Will free up Fev too.

i never rated clokey previously..........*making loser signs at myself* .... but as the great man bt would say "woweeeee!!", cloke has just come from nowhere (obviously playing in position lately), and is fast becoming one of my favoured players, i just love his commitment to the navy blue jumper, just wish other players could take a leaf from his book.

Agree BlueYoss. It's pretty well accepted that the big guys take a bit longer than mids to reach their full potential, and i reckon we might just have the best Cloke of the bunch.

His pack marking is very handy and his footpassing to leading forwards is A grade, as is his set-shot kicking.

Best of all - he has real spirit with a handy little dash of mongrel thrown in.

Our over-reliance on Fev has seen us crying out for a big tall forward who can chime in with some physical presence in the forward line and 40-50 goals a year, and i reckon Cloke has shown that he could play that role as soon as K and Hammer can handle the rucking duties by themselves.

Betts Fev Fisher
Russell Cloke Houlihan is a pretty handy fwd 6 for mine

Hadn't thought of the Earl comparison but think you are right. Whilst different in ways their hardness and passion is very similar. Lets hope Cam keeps developing and ends up as valueable as Spalding was.

Cameron Cloke should be marked down for CHF next year and beyond.

I've been saying this all year.

He was originally recruited at Collingwood as a CHF, but die to his shoulder injuries two years running they delisted him.

Carlton recruited him as a pinch ruckman, but his determination has allowed him to play fantastic matches and he plays liek its his last.

He is a natural forward, you can see this by his leading, his leaping, his marking...and hopefully his kicking (which has improved).

He has the aggression that makes a CHF and he has endurance to run all day, although he may not look like it, but he covers more ground that probable 70% of the team.

Put him down for CHF, Fev at FF, with Walker, Betts, Fisher, Hoops crumbing and being other options....

Also did anybody else notice how well Fish played being the 3rd forward, which is what he was recruited for?? Amazing what happens when people can play their natural game....

Telstra hatred fueling plenty of sense, BH. How am I gonna make it through till next season? Bring it on now, ffs!!

Glad we took cloke and let Bryan go, Cloke gives 110% each week, Bryan didnt. Once again we got the better of Collingwood

I criticised him earlier for not being able to mark overhead, he has since got this right. I guess reaching overhead isn't easy afer having a shoulder done. Has had a good month and has looked like a forward.
