I can't believe this.
Promoted rookie, played 15 games showed a bit I thought.
Got a fair bit of the ball for a tagger and has a huge motor.
Pretty good attitude from most accounts
Geez I reckon his best is yet to come. I'd love for him to come to Essendon and trail for a spot on the list through the PSD.

He's been ripped off and I'm sure he'll get picked up again by us. The AFL required us to delist 2 more players and I'm sure he has been promised he'll be put back on the list imo. I'd easily take Howat over Johnson, Raines, JON and Meyer

I dunno if i'de take him over Johnson or Raines. Hopefully Jon and Meyer prove to be better players than Howat by the end of their careers which hopefully isn't too soon.
I can't believe some of you guys think he is a loss. We have heaps of players on the list who should get a game before him. Compare him to Jake King - both rookies - one steps up - the other going nowhere. Too long have we settled for mediocrity. You can't tell me that he would be in the best 22 of Geelong, WC, Port, Collingwood, Hawthorn etc so why complain. This is a cut throat business and the sooner our supporters realise that then the sooner we might have a tough and talented team rather than one or the other.

Players such as JON, Meyer probably dont deserve ag ame ahead of him but I would prefer them getting a game to Howat because I think there best will be more damaging than Howat's.

Howatt was serviceable and should feel very happy that he even made it at the top level considering he had no single outstanding features
He could run all day, but was very much a wide outside receiver in the Chris Hyde mould....
This begs the question...
...MADTIGER if you had to delist one of Hyde or Howatt who would it be?
(You can't say I would have delist Raines, Johnson first etc)

In his first year Howat rarely missed a target - despite an awkward looking style of drooping the ball onto his boot. I thought he was great value.
But this year he seemed to make too many unforced errors that caused turnovers.
I certainly lost confidence in him and am not convinced he is good enough to still be there in 5 years time.

Hes a great player lots of skill hard at the ball and extremely courageous, would fit well into Essendon

Madtiger i am sick of watching you post crap about 3 players who have every right to be on our list.
Kane Johnson is our captain he possesses experience we need sure he didnt have a great year but is easily in our best 22.
Andrew Raines when played in position came 3rd in RS award behind 2 out and out guns. This year had to play on people like Riewoldt what the hell do we expect?? Him to keep Nick to 0 goals and have 25 running of the HBF?
JON is 19 years old!!!!! Hasnt had a pre-season and has still managed to play as many or more games than the others drafted in that year (Hughes, Casserly) he has enormous upside and watch the VFL a bit and you will see glimpses but he is still young
Meyer i understand you thinking he is lucky to be on a list but he has more upside than Howat no doubt there he has great skills and pace just seems to be a mind problem. He has about 3 years on Howat so no way would you be delisting him before Howat.

i liked cam, but i also see him as being fairly replaceable - he ran all day, was a good carrier of the ball - but that was because the opposition coach was always happy to let he and his opponent play loose on each other as - more often than not- the player he is playing on is far more damaging.

raines and johnson are miles ahead of howatt to mention them in the same sentence is a joke. I was all for giving him a go earlier in the year and saw glimpses of skill but I also saw him do some very ordinary things, not least of which is his lack of heart for the hard stuff. If anyone saw that game against Hawthorn you will know what I mean it was embarrassing.

He beat Shaw, lost to Pearce... at this stage I wouldn't say Pearce was a gun. He had an up and down 2007 season aswell

Cam is family friend on my GF's side, she used to babysit him obviously quite some time ago, so Ive always tried to get a glimpse of how he was going.
However as I was too distracted watching my own team get belted week in week out I never saw much of him play.
Seems some tiger fans rate him and some dont. What were his pro's and con's? Any chance of being picked up by another club?

Howat's upside is not great. Sure he is a good ball carrier, finishes well and can find a target but he is not so exceptionally skilled in these areas that he could become a really damaging wingman/midfielder. As touched on earlier he did not have a huge defensive side to his game, and he was fairly useless in the stoppages. Unless he gets 25-30+ possessions per game, he is not of huge value and this season he didn't really show that he could get those numbers consistently
The main problem as I see it his age, he is 23? How much better can he get considering he didn't do a whole lot this year. He is probably a little unlucky and there are players who I would have preferred he stayed ahead of, but it should be plainly obvious to most why he is expendable.

Replaceable....probably! Very much a meat and potatoes player.
But there were quite a few others deserving of losing their spot on the list before Howat.
I offer these names ... Meyer (yeah, yeah... we're all waiting for him to turn in to Gary Ablett....right!), Hyde, Moore (not sure why we're persisting here either), Schulz (no comparison in size, but at least Howat gets it).

We have enough outside run and carry types including the recently recruited ones and the addition of pick 2 ND (Morton/Cotchin). He had to go and IMO one of Hyde/Tivendale should go with him.
