I was very sorry we didn't take this guy instead of Meeson ( nothing against Meeson ) because he was an Adelaide boy and had great wraps on him. In the week ends paper in Brissy they had a full page article on him. He arrived in Brissy weighing 88 kilos and now weighs in at 105 kg.
Lethal is wetting himself about this bloke.

I've seen him a few times last year and I reckon he may be the one that got away.

Can he take a mark around the ground?

Whether its Hudson,Meeson,Wood, Maric or Superman if he cant do a Rehn and get back and fill a hole and take say 6 marks a game it doesnt matter who it is.

Only going on what I saw of him last year, yep, he can take a mark, and is very good below the knees for a bloke 204cm.

i think this fits better

Meeson ???? Wood

we will have a better idea this time next year but we probably wont know if we made the right choice for a couple of years (maybe never if they turn out to be diffrent type of ruckmen)

I'm convinced we made the right call on Meese, as long as we play him and he doesn't go back to Victoria.

Will be an absolute gun IMO and I hope we see him on the park this year. Was rated very highly in the draft that year IIRC, top 5 at least.

There is another interesting point to this issue, and that is that Rehn was at Westies as Wood was coming through, and was, as I am reliably informed, very impressed. Rehn is now the ruck coach at the Lions.

We shall see in the fullness of time.

Of course we made the right call on the Meese. He was the best option 'AT THE TIME'. We all have PHD's in hindsight.

As has Maric. Wood averages 1 more disposal and one more hit-out per game than Maric - barely earth-shattering IMO.

The grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence.

And considering the Lions lack of talls, he probably averages a lot more time on the ground aswell.

Wood played as the 2nd ruckman off the bench so his game time was not significant. In reality though, he would not have played last year but for season ending injuries to 2 senior ruckmen and could well start in the reserves in 2007.

I wouldn't beat yourself up over the decision not to draft him. Not yet anyway;) :p

Without the stats, I reckon Wood would have played nore minutes too.

I have no complaints so far about drafting Meesen over Wood - both should end up good players, but I reckon we will be smiling more at the end of the year.

Absolutely agree. :thumbsu:

Cameron Wood will be an absolutely brilliant AFL ruckman. Towards the end of 2006 he was really coming on in leaps and bounds and there were a few glimpses of brilliance. He displayed his exceptional tapwork in a couple of games and his work around the ground made it clear he will be something special. He often runs down into defence to fill the hole and he seems to read the play quite well. I believe he will be one of the premier ruckmen in the competition in a few years as he is just a phenomenal talent.

And everyone knows my thoughts on Meesen.

but didn't he play for Westies?

At the time of drafting I rated Wood higher than Meesen and firmly believe he will turn out the better AFL ruckman. His main advantage is his height, leap and pure tapwork which was one of the best I've seen for a 17yo about to be drafted. Wasn't the best around the ground and that is where Meesen has him covered, however he is that sort who can turn into a Dean Cox type, brilliant at everything. If he is 103kg now he will be making an impact very soon.

Having said all that Meesen will be a very solid AFL ruck, one of the best at working around the ground and using agression and he does also possess a fine leap, but will get well beaten in hitouts, by the real deal tappers.

I must be going crazy - but I always thought that Meeson was a forward who could ruck, not a ruckman who could play forward ?

the norwood and AFC have him playing ruck so I suppose I am fairly off the mark..... makes me wonder why I even bothered pressing reply really:confused:
