Cameron, broken arm and negligence

It was obvious to all and sundry that Cameron was seriously injured and yet Geelong let him play on. It may have been a Grand Final but when the AFL is sanctioning anyone anywhere near a head injury why wouldn't a broken arm be considered unacceptable. I think Geelong was in violation of its Duty of Care to Cameron, irrespective of what Cameron or the coach wanted.

Similar to why cricket has a sub rule for concussion but not other injuries.

Concussion you can think everything is fine and go on again. Do that enough and you can think it's all good but only pay the price a long way down the road. There's no (or often not enough) immediate feedback on whether the decision to play on feels right or not.

Other injuries give you that feedback and you can make a judgement call on whether or not to play on. With concussion that judgement is severely impaired and would lead to the wrong decision being made 95% of the time. Other injuries: yeah you can get it wrong but sometimes you could get it right too.

No HIA alone is questionable. And bringing him out with bigger and thicker casts... how many pain killer shots are Geelong claiming he had?

He was examined thoroughly by the doctors. He took 20 minutes to come back on.. a broken arm isn’t really a toughie to find

I can’t imagine he had many. I’ve broken my arm before and it’s nothing. Dislocating your shoulder is 10x worse pain wise

Internal bleeding is not comparable to a broken arm….

You don’t break your arm btw and be like “gee I wonder what’s wrong”. It’s pretty bloody obvious. Not really possible to damage it even more either

It’s much worse going back out with a dislocated shoulder then it is a broken arm but no one would have bat a eyelid if he came back on with tape on his shoulder and pLayers the game out . Broken arms just look more graphic so people think it’s worse when it isn’t

Given it happened before half time I’m sure when the game opened up Cameron would have found more footy.

Syndenosis is more susceptible to further damage much much more then a broken arm is

Nerve damage is the big concern with any break. Surely that risk increases if you keep playing with a crack?

Making a decision in game that a player with a broken arm is better than a 100% fully fit player, surely they would have made the same call pre game. Why would it be different?

I played on in a game with broken ribs and a punctured lung. Got through the game ok. My call.

Wouldn’t have been selected with the same injury prior.
It’s different in my Opinion. Cameron played out the game and didn’t suffer any further ill effects. He missed a goal. His team were getting pumped anyway. Nothing out of the ordinary here in a contact sport.

Anyway just my view that it isn’t that big of a deal but a poor call on the day. Lachie Neale was a risky call and the way they used him showed they were worried. That one worked out, is what it is.
