I remember people scoffing at Shane Watson's record and saying Green would average over 40 with bat and under 30 with ball.

I thought this was possible tbh but prob not now, 35 and 35 is probably about right, that's still valuable but it shouldn't push Webster out. Don't know if him giving up bowling would help the batting average, like Watson I think Green would be best as a top order bat, well at least our best option, not many good openers about.

Obviously Green hasn't helped himself of late.....but geez the selectors are setting him up to be cannon fodder if they think he can open. Just put him at 5 or don't pick him at all......

FFS Ronnie opening come on bro

up down left right ..settle the poor lad...number 5 in Test and ODI is fine ..we can play both webbie and greenie in the same team. green 5 carey 6 webbie and 7 is fine and we have like 20 tests in 18 months the bowlers need cover ...greenie and webbie can provide this imo

Leave head where he is happy if weathers has another crack

Head
Weathers
Marnus
Smudge
Green
Carey
Webbie
bowlers is fine

Considering most folk suggest Webster is a better player then Green, why not put Webster opening....obviously being older, and knowing his game better, Webster can surely adapt better, and bat anywhere.....it's obvious Green has struggled with Bailey et al thinking, that Green can bat anywhere in the top 6.....it's obvious mentally Green struggles with all the uncertainty of his role in the side.

Green's recent test performance does not warrant a position in the side, in any spot.

If the selectors genuinely think he can open (and I'm not convinced this is anything other than a thought bubble), then he should be made to prove it by opening for WA for at least half a season first.

I don't think Webster is anywhere near the batsman green is. Webster is currently the better performing all rounder tho (yes, he averages better with bat in tests).

The Green as opener idea might work in white ball cricket but with his initial slow foot movement, he'd be a walking LBW in tests.
Think of all the Green reviewing lbw gifs we would get to replace Watto

Will be interested to compare their averages after 30 tests.....Webster has only played 8 tests, a small sample size compared to Green's. Though for Webster to get to 30 odd tests, he would be nudging what in age?....36 or 37?....hopefully Scott, or Davies, or anyone younger, would be in the selection frame by then.....pushing Webster out.

We're playing 20 tests in the next 14 months so by rights, he should get there pretty quick.

webster's 32 and we have 20 (21 if we make the WTC final) over the next 14 months - so he has an opportunity.

he could easily have racked up 30 tests by then, but it'll be on the back of good form and maintaining his place in the team.

he'll either rack up 30 tests and have a really good record, or miss out because of poor form and be dropped and perhaps never get picked again with the likes of Connolly, Hardie and Scott pressing.

it may also depend on how we want to structure up the team eg. in india etc.
the other factor may be holding his place because of poor form from green.

again with this "shoehorn someone into the openers role"...

yeah it feels as if they trying to put a square peg in a round hole.
doesn't help that no one on the first class scene is banging the door down.

cast your minds back to early 2024 and we'd just finished the tour of NZ.

the top 6 was:
Smith
Khawaja
Labuschagne
Green
Head
Marsh

Then Ronnie said the Smith experiment had finished and he'd bat at 4, moving forward.
When asked who would then open, he didn't give us an answer other than stating, that the same 6 batsmen would be fronting up for the next test (some 7 months later).

In the meantime, Green got injured in some white ball cricket in England and was unavailable for some time.

We ended up handing a cap to McSweeney, which indicates that Green had been earmarked for the role.

As we all know, we messed about with openers for a while , to a point where Marnus opened in the WTC final.

Getting a stable opening pair is critical for success and how we crave for a Lawry/Simpson, Taylor/Slater, Hayden/Langer combination.

Can't be easy being a selector, but they don't know if they Arthur or Martha at the moment and thankfully for the bowling group, the team is still seeing success.

Pretty sure he has in the past.....or why would a team bid as much as they have for him? Just not getting passed go in this IPL.....which could be a blessing.....playing IPL ain't going to improve his game, only his bank balance....sadly his confidence is shot.....it's a social media feeding frenzy for all the wanna be vultures....
Needs more Sheffield Shield. Everyone does.
