never stood out sorry
Barely makes a mistake either.

Enright didn't poll a Brownlow vote the year he was best and fairest in a premiership side, and All-Australian.

Agree with all SJ's comments re Guthrie-he was a bit rusty yesterday, that's all.

Can someone help me i dont see anything in him.is there something i dont see?

The kid is 20 years old and has played 20 AFL games.

Come back and give an assessment when he has played 50 AFL games.

That will be a better measure of his ability.

Yes, you don't see that players need time to develop.
Instant, or almost instant, AFL players like Joel Selwood are the exception and not the rule.

i see a guy who has played 20 games and as very stood out

It's a bit harsh to say he hasn't stood out among a group of players which is arguably the most successful of the modern era.

How many games did Bartel, chapman, Johnson, Corey, Ablett etc star in in their first 20?!

Heck, we were all calling for Hawkins sacking until a year ago!!

As long as he is playing his role.

I can't imagine a harder position for a young player than the small/medium defender.

He makes a mistake against his opportunistic opponent and it is plain to see. At times he is also required to be effective in the air, often against a taller opponent and is often out of position (happened a couple of times yesterday). Whereas, a young forward just has to capitalize on opportunities usually to his advantage - and we applaud his talent.

Guthrie is very assured and composed with ball in hand. The other stuff will come with time and support and is something developed through experience, which we need to afford him. Am happy if he is best 22.

one of the things we can sometimes forget is what the player tries to do when they do get the ball, if you watched him closely yesterday, although he played poorer than usual, he's getting the footy and trying to work his way through the situation rather than doing what most youngsters do and just bomb the thing away like it's a hot potato.

I don't mind seeing him do this as often as possible because the more often he gets caught and pinned for holding the ball, the quicker he learns from the mistakes and makes inroads in his development.
He's a gun in my opinion, has terrific closing speed, superb long drop punt and is also deceptively strong through the core.

He was out-marked on two or three occasions by a much bigger man so you can't really knock him for that and his opponent (Lindsay Thomas) did not score a direct goal on him either, it was through other player mistakes which allowed Thomas to kick those goals, although Thomas did kick 2 behinds which could have been goals on Cam.

just another thing...Thomas really needs to be talked to for consistently dropping the knees resulting in players falling onto his back, I counted at least 3 times he did this where 2 were paid.

I can't stand watching these types of players who have never showed that much courage throughout their careers but consistently use ducking and falling to ground as a means of kicking their goals, at least Selwood earns his head high frees, this bloke just looks to draw a free kick as soon as he touches the bloody ball.

Exactly. That's how much credence the Brownlow has among footy people (I'll never forget Brad Scott's reaction when he got told Enright didn't get a Brownlow vote).

Didn't have the greatest game yesterday, but the frees Thomas got were bullshit, and two of his goals came from frees infringed by Christensen and Sheringham. Can't blame Guthrie for that.

Great post pencil
It is certainly a very hard and unforgiving place to play and one where mistakes are so , so costly.
He is a kid FFS , he will make mistakes but we have a real beauty and need to allow him to make those mistakes and learn from them
I can recall Rooke and Enright in their early days and they played some absolute stinkers
Give him time Denicat , he plays the Geelong way and he will show it with another season under his belt

here's his game yesterday, as you can see, was below usual standard but not as bad as the OP makes him out to be.

Terrific clip, mate, thank you.
He did have a few problems yesterday, didn't he; but he also appears to have grown in confidence from last season, be more prepared to run and carry and take the game on, rather than being purely defensive and too keen to hand it off to one of the bosses.

certainly did have some issues no doubt but Lindsay Thomas is no slouch either, he's a pretty good small forward who's been in prime form the last season or so.
Very elusive player and extremely quick when gets into open space, seems to always get goal side of his opponent like we see from Betts or Milne on a consistent basis.

people can have a crack at me but only wanted to find out what people see in him.thanks to people that see it as it is

sorry man, didn't mean to sound like am having a go at you as it wasn't my intention but I think we really need to wait until these youngster hit 50 games or more before asking questions because 10-20 games is really silly to judge a player given the quality of the competition they also have to come up against at the moment.
