Huh? Who?

There's about a dozen elite footballers in the country.

Elite in his position without a doubt.

Ha, you got me there vinum coupe however, I think earlier in that thread someone said that Guthrie was a mile ahead of Motlop which is more of a shocker.

Guthrie is no star, I'll stand by that and I love a good half back flanker. I think Thurlow has more ability in his little finger.
Got to hate bumps :D;)

Figjam incoming !!!! :D

Ok, I'll play.
This is what I see in him.

I said it a year ago, and it's a risky comment. But I see a young Ablett in a lot of ways.
*waits for people to get back up off the ground*

Probably crossed with a bit of Andrew Bews.
He is nippy, he is a ball hunter, he has confidence and calmness that you can't teach. Not at his age.
I've said it before, but I reckon he will end up as an elite midfielder.

It's rare to see him up across half forward but the next time he gets there, watch him.
He won't hesitate. He will either put it on someones chest or he'll slam it through. He wont flinch.
It generally takes players a long time to believe that they are good enough. I think he believes already.

It's why he'll be a 200 game player and best and fairest for the Cats.
Will he reach Abletts level? No way. I'm not suggesting that. But you are going to see someone who has the will and desire to put his stamp on the contest, all the time.

I am not sure that is that much of a shocker. Motlop has done it already, Guthrie is showing he might make that leap this year.

I'll admit I was not Guthrie's biggest fan, but he was playing some really average football there for a while. I think if you asked him, he would admit that himself that he was ball watching and not getting involved.

He has turned the corner and that is great. I still think Thurlow will be a better player, stand by that.

Lets not forget he was left out of the first final side before Taylor Hunt pulled out injured, so he really only started to command a spot after a superb finals series.

Couldn't disagree more, sorry.

Please...he was never missing that final. Look at what he did in the games leading up to that. Named in the best in Round 22 against Sydney and kept Josh Hill to one kick against West Coast. As soon as he was listed in the emergencies (indicating that he was fit), it was just a question of who he'd be a late change for.

When in Rome...

Have been a fan of this kid for a few years now. Reminds me quite a bit of Pendlebury - so much time and composure.

Love watching him run himself into trouble, then just casually work his way out and spot up a team mate. Would love to see him in the midfield over the coming years.

Still see a fair bit of Pendlebury in the way he plays.

He'd commanded a spot way before then.

Let's not forget this is the same match committee - in the same match - that thought Josh Walker was a key forward, Mark Blicavs could ruck against Aaron Sandilands, Travis Varcoe was either fit or in form, and Paul Chapman should start as a sub.

Clubs make mistakes. Including ours. He was best 22 way before then.

Laughable really.

I'll be shaking my head at the selections in that game in 20 years' time.
And the few months leading up to those selections make them even worse.

Great gifs :thumbsu: Wanna do one of the last ball-up where he leaves his man Pendles, tackles Beams and saves a goal?

I'm all for moving Guthrie to the mid-field as long as we have a replacement for him in defense. I assume the plan is for Smedts to be that replacement.

Surely Thurlow will slot in at some point.

For Vinum and Bobby.

ha ha.

I was watching the meaning of life with my 6 year old son and 10 year old daughter the other day.
They just kept laughing. Surely it made no sense to them. That movie has always been hard work.

Decided to turn it off after "every sperm is sacred" :D

Goodness gracious I hope not.

THunt is a far better option, even Thurlow if we must.

THunt and Smedts were both down there in the first game. THunt seemed to take on more of a shut-down role (the old Guthrie role) while Smedts had more license to counterattack (the old Bartel role).

Not a lot of other options I can see other than Thurlow (interrupted preseason) and Bews.
