Is it possible for the eagles to lose picks over the cousins saga???
serious question

AFL could do that
also could mean a lose of premiership points

but AFL wont do anything major, they are too soft!!!

The AFL brought WCE in for a talk earlier this year, and thretened a range of penalties under "bringing the game into disrepute".

They can effectively do whatever they want.
Money, picks, points, deregister Cousins........the AFL could do anything.

Yeah soft with everyone exept Carlton, the AFL penalised us and didnt know it would nearly wipe out our great club, they have gone soft now, shame its to late for us. As for loosing picks and points Yes they can and may, but it will only be a slap on the wrist.

Yeah, just like they were with Carlton...

coz they hate us Yossy, hehe

otherwise if they were serious about the drug issues then they would have had a zero tolerance. 3 strikes is a joke

3 strikes isn't the issue.

detection is still the issue.

Question: Who is the biggest alleged and admitted druggie in the AFL?
A: Cousins

Q: How many times has he tested positive to drugs?
A: Zero

Cuz doesn't have ANY strikes.........the policy isn't the issue.
Testing is the issue.

What if Cuz had tested positive 2-3 years ago and THEN was forced into rehab as is the three strikes policy?
Maybe he wouldn't be where he is now.

Food for thought.

wouldn't strip picks hurt more then losing premiership pts?
or vice versa? hopefully after this will teach WCE a good lesson

Think about it in respect of Carlton's last 5 or so years.

We were stripped of picks and it almost buried the club.

If we had lost premiership points it would have made little to no difference -except in 2005, if we had lost at least 2 premiership points in 2005 we would have had our our priority pick PRIOR to round 1 of the 2006 superdraft!

But to any club I would suggest that losing picks would hurt much more, but would just take longer for the pain to set in.

It has to relevant to the club and their position.

The picks hurt us because they compunded years of poor recruiting and came at a time when we were desperate for fresh young players.

What if we had of received the penalties in 200 and 2001?

We would have been back into the draft when we most needed to be.

WCE have a strong list with lots of good young players.
Loss of picks would compound the loss of Judd and Cousins......and maybe even Kerr in time, and would reduce their chances of having another champion emerge, but as we know, its not all about high picks (Simmo and Fish).

i think it will make us stronger in the medium and long term.

anyway, eagles suck.

The AFL will do the absolute minimum they can get away with. Just like the Weagles, don't expect them to be pro-active.

What for? They haven't done anything wrong.
I agree. I don't believe WCE should be held responsible for the actions of an individual who is clearly a headcase.

Also on the point of losing draft picks or points.... if given the option of the two, stripping them of points would be the way to go. It's a set penalty that you can accurately gauge as a punishment. Losing draft picks can set you back seasons, or in Carlton's case, the best part of a decade and almost crippled the club. We were caught cheating the salary cap, these guys have a rat in their ranks.... two vastly different crimes.

They will pay plenty in lost membership and bad press anyway.

No.

Taking draft picks off teams is a thing of the past.

If it happens again, that team will take the matter to the Supreme Court and have it overuled due to a "restraint of trade". I have no doubt about that and the AFL know it too.

We were weak when it happened to us 5 years ago and bent over and copped it sweet.....but that's in the past now. :thumbsu:

In theory yes, but the AFL have been extraordinarily lenient on drugs. While Cousins is employed at Weagleland, they have a responsibility to make sure he is drug free and has received adequate rehabilitation prior to resuming footy. This was part of Demetriou's feather-duster-PR-stunt several months back. They failed on both counts and should be penalised. Fines and draft penalties, and given another suspended penalty, subject to the Clubs behaviour over the next 12 months. :)

u idiot - you guys cheated and deserved 2 pay the price.. benny boy is just flying around high as a kite not the wild wests fault

Have you just learnt that we cheated? The only idiot on here are ones with milne in there name on a board that doesnt need them. We are in a forum , thats what they are for, if you dont understand that piss off because we have enough thick st.kilda people without adding you to the list.

u idiot - you guys cheated and deserved 2 pay the price.. benny boy is just flying around high as a kite not the wild wests fault

ehem...

benny boy just flying around high as a kite is actually the wild wests fault. They have not penalised him enough in the past for his indiscresions and consequently he has come to believe that nothing he does that infringes the law will be punished with more than a slap on the wrist by the club.

benny boy running around high as a kite is constantly seen as a representive of the West Coast Eagles and should be behaving in a manner that reflects well on the club.

Unfortunately, benny boy constantly drags the name of the West Coast Eagles through the mud with all his drug taking and run-ins with the law.

Who is to say that the 2006 premiership wasnt won by the eagles while several key players were out on the ground under the influence of speed or cocaine.

So turning around and saying that we deserved it because we cheated is a little harsh, but it is true... we deserved to be punished for what we did. The West Coasters deserve some form of punishment for their lack of responsibility and duty of care to their players to ensure that the players know that if they do something wrong they will get punished in a manner appropriate to the crime.

If they do lose their picks, do we get pick 3 and 20 back? Or does everyone just get a higher pick... eg Melbourne get pick 3 instead of pick 4?
