The formalities of the deal which brings Tyson Stenglein to the West Coast Eagles was completed today as the deadline to the five-day trade period was completed.
As part of the arrangement that saw Stenglein head back to his home town, Adelaide received picked 12 and the highest second selection held by West Coast at the end of trading.
When all the deals were done, West Coast’s highest selection was pick No.28 which was transferred to Adelaide on the death knell to ensure the deal was complete.
In other developments involving the club today:
• Ruckman-forward Paul Johnson was traded to Melbourne for selection No.29
• Midfielder Chad Morrison was traded to Collingwood for selection No.37 which had earlier been acquired after swapping Bo Nixon to Hawthorn.
• Wingman Callum Chambers will find a new football home at Carlton after being traded to the Blues for pick 57.
West Coast senior coach John Worsfold said he was satisfied with the outcome of the trade period.
“We’re delighted to have a player and a person of Tyson’s standing coming into our club,” Worsfold said. “Not only do we expect him to have a strong on-field presence, but believe his character and leadership qualities will have an impact off field.
“We regard him very highly and look forward to him starting pre-season training with us and settling into his new surroundings.
“With the other trade deals, it was good that we could accommodate Paul Johnson, Chad Morrison and Callum Chambers. All three of those players indicated that they would like to pursue opportunities with other clubs and we worked hard to ensure those deals were completed.”
Chambers, 24, played only nine games this season and is looking forward to further opportunities at Carlton.
"It's disappointing to leave the club at a time when things are starting to look pretty good, but that's footy," he said.
"I have spent the whole of my adult life with the West Coast Eagles, so the club will always be important to me. I would like to thank all of those people who have given me so much support over the years.
"I'm now looking forward to life at Carlton and hopefully being a part of a successful team there."
With the trade period completed, West Coast will now have selections 29, 37, 57 and 60 in next month’s national draft and have added Stenglein and Mitchell Morton to the club’s list. Morton joins the squad under the father-son rule with his father Noel playing 150 games for Claremont.
does this mean if we had have traded say Michael Braun for pick 15 or something like that, we had an agreement to give pick 15 to Adelaide??
1) This is a very poor way of trading from our point of view.
2) Are clubs even allowed to do that??
3) If i understand it that way, why didn't we just trade away all our draft picks and give them like pick 60 or something??
