Can We Please Kick Straight?

It's not like we couldn't fit in some kicking practice in a 10-day break. The Lions bounced back from a loss to the Kangas (largely due to bad kicking at goal) to be at one stage 18.1 against Carlton last week.

We responded to 12.23 against Essendon by being, at one stage 5.13 against Adelaide. It won't be long before we get bitten on the arse for wasting so many opportunities.

About 8 posters tonight, wasn't it?

We cannot risk losing to Carlton!

Can someone answer a question for me? I know a lot of you blokes get down to training from time to time, and I plan to over the next 3 weeks while I'm in Melbourne, but how do the Pies actually practice set shots? Do they do a bit of running and then take a mark and do it under match conditions, or just sort of stand around and have 'rested' static shots? They seem fine on the run. This has been discussed elsewhere on BF, but surley it is not what they do at training, but how they do it. Anyway how are they doing it?

Haha. 11.20

And we still smashed a contender for the flag.
We've kicked more then 20 behinds in 2 weeks and still won reasonably confortably and we are getting the footy in the F50 more then the opposition and it's only a matter of time before we start coverting to goals instead of behinds.

7 posters means we are very close.

We are going to flog someone soon when it clicks. Let's hope it is this week against Carlton.

rocca... dude wtf i can kick better than him with my eyes closed, what the hell happened to his accuracy, and cloke needs to work his kicking, heard he had 7 shots on goal for a return of 2.3

on the other hand im going to pies vs carlton, im sure they wanna impress me and kick straight

Just give it to big Bryan! His kicking looked rock solid for most of the night (I don't count the one he missed at the end cause the game was already on ice :D)

It will all come together soon and i totally agree with the Bryan comment, he looked really condifent in front of goal. NOW LETS SMASH THE BLUES!!!

At the moment because we're winning games I kind of don't really mind all the behinds because it means we are fact able to put ourselves in position to have those shots. The loss of all that potential percentage was very disappointing but no use crying over spilt milk I guess and I'm optimistic we will turn it around. :thumbsu:

If however it continues and say we kick 11.20 against Carlton next week and lose there will be hell to pay!!

I was getting unbelievably frustrated at our kicking again, a better team would have made us pay for that inaccuracy. We can't afford to throw away those opportunities against Bulldogs/Lions/Freo etc.

Yep, well we threw away the opportunities again, and the Bulldogs did make us pay.

At least Travis Cloke's kicking was better this week.

Rocca's shots within 30.

MM is a tool if he is going to use confidence as an excuse. Its simple, its so obvious to anyone that watches it. He has NO technique, he just tries to kick it without effort. Unlike his bombs from 50+ where he actually kicks through the footy, I really think he needs to go back, and kick through the footy straight at goalpost height, even if its only 25 metres out. He just takes it too easy from close up, tahts way it goes everywhere, he just needs to go back, run in and kick through the damn footy! Simple!

Very true. His shot in the 3rd quarter (?) on a 45 degree angle from 25 that went out on the full was just a stab. He tried to just chip it through. His kicking seems to be best when he loads it up and just lets it rip, I'd love to see him try that from 20 metres, just to see if he improves.

If the ball hits the roof when he bangs it I don't care, as long as he kicks a damn goal.

Even if Rocca is 15m out, he should go back to the 60m mark and bomb it from 50. Much more likely to drill it through :p

Wasted yesterday - but I agree, once we can actually kick accurately we will murder some teams.

Something is definitely wrong - it's been going on for far too long. One of the problems yesterday was that once we started missing our shots for goal in the 3rd quarter, it translated into a general loss of of skill - kicks missing targets, intercepts, wrong options and, eventually, everybody so s**t-scared of making a mistake they weren't game to try anything!

Rocca's appalling miss was particularly soul-destroying: you could feel it in the stands and it MUST have had a major impact out on the ground. We need Medhurst and I'd play him as a leading FF. He and Didak are the only two forwards we have that you feel reasonably confident with when lining up for goal.

If you draft players with average or worse foot skills you are going to suffer for it. We had been doing this for so long it’s not funny. We didn’t fix McGough’s kicking and even after he kicked away a premiership we didn’t improve Tarrant’s kicking. Those two players from the 2002 list when we went close to a flag sum it up IMO. Travis Cloke is a terrible kick for goal and unless he gets sorted out in the next year or two he will frustrate the hell out of us forever and it may well cost us a flag. Rocca has always been unreliable. Really we have Didak and Pendlebury who are quality kicks for goal. If Buckley comes back you can add him too although he does miss a few and hamstring injuries won’t make the job any easier. Swan and Shaw missed goals they should have kicked and that may well have been enough to keep a lid on the Dogs. You will always get the odd gettable goal being missed. The problem is that when you get a few players that miss regularly the gettable ones are vital.
