Just curios as to why we can't ... Or why we haven't been able to pull names such as..

Dangerfield
Knights
Sherman
Trengrove
I think we tried to pull Judd at one stage.. I'm most Likely incorrect
I think there is more to the list.

And the players we do pull
Grigg (average at best)
Houli ( has shown real potential)
Miller ( needed?)
Farmer (good last year)
Ben cousins (he had no other choice)

Dangerfield - who says? he hasnt left yet its round 24. But we won't have anything to trade.
Knights - injury prone so we didn't want.
Sherman - asked too high a price.
Trengove - we were never interested. Media made it up.
Judd - we don't own VISY :D

We can but we haven't really gone hard for one for a while I would think. Teams higher on the ladder are ones that can secure the big names. As we start making finals/top four we can attract players.

Who are the big names that have moved in the last 10 years?

Judd - money outside of the salary cap
Ablett - money no one but GC could offer
Jolly - premiership and no doubting Collingwoods pulling power
Carey - had to leave
Fev - had to leave
Aker - had to leave
Everitt - had to leave
Hall - had to leave
Cuz - had to leave we got him
Brown - we got him.
Off all of those I'd say only brown and Judd were ones we chased and we got one.

Agreed. I don't think we had the "proposition" to sell to a marquee player like a Judd.

Now we do. Facilities, coach, staff, board, finances, playing list on the up, crowd. It's now getting very compelling to get on for the ride.

This pre season I predict 1) Big name sponsor, 2) Big name trade/acquisition.
The Collingwood model is there for all to see, we just need Benny Gale and the boys to execute like Eddie has.

Ask Butcher, if he stays at Port he is nuts , 8 years of dreaming for very little IMO.

RFC is the natural choice, Martin makes it a no-brainer for him.

He has to look after himself, others won't!!

Why have you resigned yourself to believing that the main reason that Butcher would want to go to Richmond is because of Martin? You've mentioned it a few times now and the only possible way that it can be correct is if there is a bit of man-loving going around. It's Dustin Martin, i mean, he wouldn't be the first.

Apologies for intruding - most know me for my phantom drafts but I also take an interest in list management. Two names worth targetting.

Brock McLean + Shaun Hampson

Throw in your 1st + 2nd rounder as well as a Mitch Morton and you can get a serious ball winner who adds leadership + stability to a young midfield and a ruckman who can play now and develop with the list.

Do this and I think you're a top 8 club. Still a long way to go. But good pieces to build around and would go a long way toward winning.

Brock Mclean is not quick enough for AFL football any more. Gone the way of Cogs.

Rather use our 1st round pick on a midfielder, would also rather trade for an inside mid like stevens at WC.

Same was said about Luke Ball. Think he can be similarly good from a pure ball winning + leadership perspective.

At Carlton has struggled for games with their immense midfield depth. But VFL form has been VERY good.

I wouldn't count him out.

Stevens will be a very good player for WCE. Had a sensational year in the WAFL. Think he might have a breakout 2012 season.

It is only because Martin is a critcal component for Butcher to win a premiership during his football career as he will be playing for the period of Butchers career and is the best player .

It isn't the only reason though, add vick, JR, Cotch, Rancey etc...

Does Butcher want to win a premiership, if not he won't come here!!!

If Butcher wants to win a premiership his best chance is RFC, that is all I am saying and the deeds of Martin emphasis this, thats all!!;)

Ball was ridden into the ground by the Saints. Mclean has been given every chance to get better at carlton and when he has stepped up to AFL level looked slow and certainly not worth our 1st round pick and neither is Hampson.

Think stevens is a younger faster version. I think/hope he is out of contract at the end of the year. Victorian and not getting game time probably an outside chance but one thing Richmond seems to be ahead of the pack with is sounding out these fringe players not getting game time.

sounds reasonable but we have a bad record with draft picks and trading so it would need a known good player not potential for our round one

Cousins, Polak, Nathan Brown, Kane Johnson all say hi.
If you think Sherman, Trengove, Knights and Dangerfield are big names, then things are rough in the AFL.

the only one i'd say hi back to in that list is nathan brown. cousins was a reformed drug addict near the end of his career, had been a year out of the game, and most importantly, no other team would touch him. polak was an inconsistent footballer that showed glimpses but never lived up to his promise (we can excuse him considering his tragic accident) and kane johnson was a pretty good footballer that happened to have played in a premiership side.

Magic, if Butcher goes anywhere it will be Carlton. Bookmark it.
