...honestly say we may have the nucleus of a good side, players and coaches all crystallising into some sort of force?

I am alone in thinking up to now was just all raw talent and luck? We have the Swans at home next week but from what I saw I think we can beat them.

TL;DR is the window ajar for us to open?

Well considering we most likely lost gov; I would say there is little chance. The sydney fowards will smash schoey. And they will easily break through our defence sort of like what collingwood did.

And considering we haven't beaten fremantle hawks or sydney yet and we got thumped by fremantle; I would say 0.1% chance.

I would say we are 4th comfortablly. But 4th to 3rd may be too big of a leap. PROVE ME WRONG EAGLES.

I'm not talking about this season, if that passes by because of gov, so be it.. the point is, do we have the makings, our inexplicable defender curse aside?

We have the makings of a very good side. We still don't have enough depth and I think we're 1 quality starting mid away still. Our talls are currently our strength however if we were to have the injuries to our midfield that we have had to our defence this year we'd probably be running at 3 wins, 12 losses instead of the other way round.

Still need to reduce the gap between our best and worst AFL ready players in the squad.

Need some better depth and some red hot competition for spots before we can be a serious threat. All the best sides have players dominating the 2s who can't be squeezed in

With McGovern out i have no idea how we'll go over 4 quarters against top four sides in Sydney, Hawthorn and Fremantle with them getting actual inside 50 numbers against us.

I think we're coached well but also think Fremantle's raw stoppage power, Sydney's talls along with both sides Ross Lyon defensive edge will present new and unique challenges. In terms of actual ability and match ups i think we'll probably play the Hawks better than either of the two above sides have

Who from Fremantle is banging down the door demanding selection?

Hmm I think of Freo as a bit of an anomaly.

They're ultra reliant on the Sandilands-Fyfe combination. If both of those players were unavailable and the rest of the team fit, I'd pick them to be around the 4th-6th mark.

Their game plan seems to allow for debutants and 3rd stringers to come in and do the role effectively, but I think they would seriously struggle if you take out both Sandilands and Fyfe.

I'm more referring to Sydney and Hawthorn, and the good sides of the past however many years before them.

Freo looked bog average last night. We didn't set the world on fire but we played away from home against the Pies who always match up well on us.

Hawthorn look indestructible at the moment. I think with them its a case of pressure pressure pressure similar to how Collingwood handled them a few weeks back.

I know its done but if EMac wasnt out I would be much more confident of going deep into the finals (and Gov staying fit).

Swans will fall over the line against us IMO, we will play Freo into form (they always get up for their GF against us). The Hawks will cut us up badly.

Still a very good season and we should win a final or two.

I think you're forgetting we just lost arguably our most valuable player this year, and backline general.

Competition leader for intercept marks, and pulling bitches.

Schoey will just have to pull twice as many bitches while Lord Gov is recovering. Can he manage that?

I hope I don't look back at this season ala 2012 and think /what if :'( (it wasn't for injuries )
I'm confident that we are the 4th best side , but can't see myself believing that we're a premiership chance this year (even if we miraculously beat Hawthorn and Sydney!) due to our lack of experience and more importantly , finals experience .
