Can't keep them all............

Clark, GHS, Vardy, Smedts and Murder can all go. I always liked GHS would have liked him to get more games ahead of Murdoch over the last couple of years. Could have cemented a spot in the 22. Hope he goes and gets a game elsewhere.
Kersten should be kept

Contracts and list spots will play a part in what happens.
  • On rookies, Bates is in his 3rd year, doesn't seem worth an upgrade, so will be let go. Can see the club keeping Delaney, as he can stay on the rookie list for another year as depth while Gardner develops. Lucey and Read are second year rookies, so they can have another also. Ruggles gets an upgrade, and Parsons is a lock to stay, Cornell given time. So that's two rookie spots open.
  • I would think two of Jimmy, Domsy and Boris will retire, Jimmy probably most likely. So with the Rug earning an upgrade, that's one main list spot open.
  • Luxford's time is up, surely, and I'm believing the mail on Clarke as well. Three spots.
  • Smedts seems likely to stay for mine. I think he's the kind that would prefer a familiar environment and his contract is in place.
  • Out of Vardy, Stanley and Kersten, the club will do everything to keep Stanley short of offering stupid money. The attitude of the club seems to be that Kersten is a valued player for the future, so they'll try to keep him. Vardy might yet surprise us all, but seems likely to leave. Four spots.
  • That leaves Murdoch and GHS, both with contracts for 2017. I say they stay. I can't see the club going after midfielders in the trade period, so their place as depth players is assured.
Four main list spots and two on the rookie list. Maybe one to come in via trade, and a pick upgrade using our multiple third rounders to bring in some Wells specials at the draft. Although given the unbelievable recruiting last year (6 recruits playing finals!), you could forgive the man for having a mare this year, but... nah, we'll take 2x200 gamers in the second round thanks Gill.

I reckon with Kersto - he sees that Clark is done and that Vardy may be going - that opens up chances for him.

I could see him staying with Clark out, Vardy a maybe.

GO Catters

Agreed.

He doesnt give us ruck cover though. If clark and vardy go we have to get a depth ruck in.

Smith,Stanley and Blits can cover the rucks as they are now for another year,I'd invest in a tall young key forward if one exists to complement Hawkins Menzel and Cockatoo next year.Failing that yes another ruckman and Stanley to CHF.

Nah we had our 2013/14 finals ruined by no rucks never again should we be caught short by design and blitz isnt a frontline ruck IMO. If vardy and clark go we must bring in a backup ruck even if its a 'giles' type.

Stanley isn't signed yet either and is being chased. Menzel and Kersten also not signed. We could be seriously low on key forwards and rucks if the club doesn't get its act together.

This is what worries me. If clark retires and vardy requests a trade who would we bring in?

Once you rule out all the guys who either we dont have the currency for or are too crap you are pretty much left with only vickery and zac clarke (both are spuddy at times but not so much so that you wouldnt take them as free agents).

Yep its a big worry. We could end up not even having enough to start a side let alone have lack of backup. Key position forwards and rucks dont grow on trees. Have to consider that lonergan is also set to retire which means we no longer will be able to use henderson or taylor in a back up forward role.

Yes and no. There are a lot more key backs than fwds on the market this trade period so we could always bring one in and play hendo fwd but its not ideal he is an A grade KPD.

Agree depth is crucial though we need to hang onto as many of our talls as possible. Stanley i think we will but the other 3 i am not sure.
