I literally gift wrapped this side, plus its rookies, for Loons and not even a shout out.

The shout out was implied when I said I hadn't made much of an imprint yet.

Unrelated: you not having the Homer av is weird

I only liked the post for the Happy Av :hearts:

It makes me happy seeing you with a billy av before me :)

Well, I've probably done a few more contests haven't I?

I'll let you have a good old gloat if you pass me in wins though :thumbsu:

Last week I kicked things off with FBD and Loonerty, who were good value. But I wanted to venture into the swamp, so dug my way into The Underground Stadium to find the Captain of the Sin City Swamprats – Ant Bear

M411: Ant Bear, thanks for the invite (even though I kind of invited myself). After taking the reigns as captain in S24, are you more comfortable in the Captain’s Chair at Swamp HQ this season?

AB: Hi Matty, thanks for the chat. Am I more comfortable? Well, I've had more time to plan for the role this season. The old office vacated by Millky was fairly sparse, so I brought in a n interior design guru to spruce it up. I've put in a French provincial chaise, a home theatre lounge with a 120" Oled tv, and an antique English oak executive desk from which I issue my inspirational speeches to the rest of the Swamprats. I have servants at my beck and call, and every order is treated with reverence. Yeah, I'm pretty comfortable.

M411: How long have you been playing SFA and what keeps you coming back?

AB: I've always been a Qootier. The fantasies I've had were always of being an AFL star, so when I stumbled upon the land of Sweet, it became apparent that this was where I belonged. I was a S18 rookie, a fairly quiet one at first as I observed the denizens of the land and assimilated into their ways. But by S20, I was confident enough to emerge from the shadows, and I developed a determination to ensure the survival and viability of my club. One of the first things that I said to spookism upon my ascension to the LG was that I would not let the club die, which it had come perilously close to doing in my first season, and the work that I and others like Millky and Cloud_ put into the club and the league over the next 3 seasons built the Swamprats into the powerhouse that it is today.

I believe that SFA players have a best-before date, but with the amount of preservatives in beer these days, I have postponed mine for several seasons yet. I still enjoy it; still get a rise out of winning 20 disposals and booting goals with no actual physical effort. I cannot see myself ever being content to sit in a pocket and rack up games with no contribution, though, so when my time is up, I'll disappear quickly.

M411: If we had a mid-season trade/free agency period in the Sweet, who would be your top 3 targets and why?

AB: What you mean, IF? It's coming up in the next few weeks...anyway, my 3 desert island discs are:

spookism - Love the guy - he is the main reason there is still a Swamprats team in the league today. Calm, loyal and experienced, I'd have him back in a heartbeat.

KohPhi - Since he joined in S22, I've been a mentor and a friend with him. Of course, as an opposing captain now, any union is likely to be many seasons hence, but he is a natural Swampie at heart.

Cloud_ You only know him as the current campaigner admin, but I knew the boy before he used to rock and roll. We used to bounce off each other beautifully in match threads, and we worked together closely for 3 seasons to raise the profile of the club and ensure it's survival.

M411: Describe the Swamprats’ culture in three words.

AB: Camaraderie. Nudity. Alcoholism.

M411: How do you feel about being the second-best Ant at the Swamprats?

AB: ant555 is a SFA legend, and it is a travesty that he is not already in the HoF, one which I am sure will be rectified soon. 5* premierships and the only player to have won the Deestroy twice is testament enough to his majesty. I have massive respect for him, and for other long-serving legends of the game. But I'm building a fair legacy myself - the only player to win a Mobbs and a beez MVP, 5 time All-SFA, multiple club B&Fs and other awards.

M411: What's the difference between Ant Bear the poster and Ant Bear the Qooty player?

AB: That's a hard question. As a player, I have a strong appreciation for the history and statistics of the game, and enjoy the challenges and responsibilities of maintaining those records, and therefore my Qooty is focused on those statistics and where they place me in historical terms. But what I enjoy most about the SFA is the cut and thrust of Match Threads, and I hope that I will be remembered for my consistent involvement in these.

M411: Who’s the biggest prima donna on the Swamprats’ list and how often do they keep you up at night?

AB: I don't think we have any. We have a fairly mature list, and my LG and I maintain a continuous dialogue with all of them. In the past, players like miggs and Gray Day presented the odd challenge, but we're a fairly mellow lot these days.

M411: From your experience, what’s the single-most defining event in the history of the SFA?

AB: A Swamprat premiership in my time hasn't happened, which will surpass anything that's gone before it. Every Premiership is defining, for the players involved. There's always a story, a controversy that defines the events of the season for the Premiers, from the NwO Dragons in S19, to the resim that gifted the Bears the S22 cup, to the back-to-back Bombers of the last 2 seasons.

Of these, the one I took most pleasure out of was the Bears premiership. As an observer, I was the first to see that they were entitled to a resim of their final round game, which they took advantage of to scrape into the top 4 (at the Swamprats' expense!), and they dedicated their charge through the finals all the way to glory to me. I felt a part of it, without ever playing for them.

M411: What is your personal SFA Career Highlight?

AB: I can't go past the S22 awards season. A beez MVP, followed by a Mobbs Medal, All-SFA ruck-rover and a club B&F. It almost cannot be bettered.

M411: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever given a rookie?

AB: That this is a fantasy game, played by people who are playing a persona and where nothing is as it seems. The SFA is an ocean, with waves, rips, reefs and canyons. There are undercurrents at play that you may never understand, so it's best to not fall out of the boat.

Appreciate the chat and all the best to the Swampies for S25.

Great work to both of you.
