Official Club Stuff Carlton Academy - Next Gen & Father/Son/Daughter Discussion

The date hasn't even come up yet, but you'd assume they will.

Yeah, can’t see them not nominating Carlton. Coming to the same club together is a good deal.

Not to mention they will know this club will give them finals football for several years.

Taj Hotton has done an ACL. Potentially may drift out to the mid first round...

Would we risk taking an injured draftee?
Why not, he’ll join the below players on the list that have done an ACL.

JSOS, Williams, Doc, Kemp, E Hollands, Marchbank, Cunningham and Cincotta.

Among the best for SA in their first trial match against the NSW Academy team. We saw what we expect from Ben. Unconditional work rate and effort, strong influence at stoppage and contests around the ground, endurance on the spread.

Only watched that video is he a bit similar to Dunkley, clearance work, kicking action ?
Pay that. Been trying to think of a “plays like” comparison as he is a little hard to categorise. Thinking you have done well. Will be a solid boy, with great hands and decent at most aspects, with OK, but not potent kicking. Top notch work rate and the desire and concentration to “do a job”.

Sadly, if he continues the form he has displayed for SA V NSW and the SA U20 squad, against the other championship teams, will push close or to the top 10.

Dunkley has managed to make his kicking work for him & not be a weakness.

Then trade our first this year for a 2025 first and a bit of change. That means we still get that extra chance at top tier talent, even if it's a year in the future. We have ways of working around the points.

We might end up losing next years first on Cody Walker, trade up our first this year for the best KPD or X-factor FWD/ burst mid.

Imo Ben will not make into top 15 calculations. Lack of footskills historically tanks draft stocks.

That's not to say he's not one of the top 10 performers in the draft, he's a fantastic defensive ball winner, I just think recruiters will rank him lower due to his kicking.

Think we'll aim to trade our pick for a mature player or trade ahead of Bens bid, would love O'Sullivan to continue his poor start to the season and slip to around 10 on boards but unlikely.

Ben Walsh Cerra O'Sullivan Wilson would be a thing of beauty for the future and much more in line with modern midfields

I agree. Would be surprised if Ben rises up draft into top 10. He looks like a strong contested clearance player, in the Josh Dunkley mould, who handballs first and is a poor kick. May not have an obvious second position. These types of players are not rated as highly as they once were.

I don’t thinks he’s the type of player a lot of clubs are looking for with there first rounder.

Then again maybe he dominates at champs.

We've had our share of players that have struggled to get their hands on the ball so Ben would address that to some degree.
The hurt factor does seem to be held against him, however as he's neither particularly explosive nor likely to open up an opponent via foot.
It's not to say that he won't be a valuable contributor but there are players with higher ceilings, meanwhile Ben would probably have a higher floor than some.
If it results in us being able to secure two first-round calibre contributors, we're laughing.

In the past few years we’ve had a Pick 3, Pick 6 and Pick 10 midfielder selections and we hardly came away laughing.
