WHO would you PREFER to be captain next year?

Edit: The above is what I believe should be the Leadership group next year

I'm sticking one down for Murphy. Yes he is young, but given our position with other options, and such a young list. He would do a very good job.

Fev should not get it. Murphy should not yet either.

None of the kids should, it's too much too soon.

My fingers are crossed for Lance, with either Walker/Simpson as vice.

Go Lance
Go Blues 2007

If Nick Stevens gets either Captain or Vice Captain, i'll be wanting my money back from my membership.

He has no idea about passion for the club. And he should not be rewarded for what was an average year. HE has no passion, no heart for the club.

You have to be joking? Would you listen to an 18 year old kid who has proved nothing telling you what to do? Maybe in 2 or 3 years but not yet.

From an outside perspective, I would actually want Heath Scotland to be captain, but that won't happen, but he does have good leadership qualities IMHO.

We could do a lot worse than Heath.

I voted for Lance, however. I reckon it's too soon for Simmo or Walker. They've only just cemented their spot in the team. No way should Murphy get it this time around. He's only played 13 games!

He has proven plenty. On field he was excellent last year and would have been close to B&F if not for injury. More importantly is his off-field atributes. Coped prestigiously with the no.1 pick pressure. Handled the media well. Served as a good liason between younger and older players. All the young kids look up to him.

What's not to like?

We all know he will be captain in 2-3 years time. Why not now?

I actually think it should be either Murphy or Fevola as are the only two players who are respected both on and off the field and hold the key for recruiting a la Thornton and Gibbs

Honestly Murphy's attitude has surpassed that of the older guys, i think it would be a wake up for them to be given orders by this kid. Whilst i think Lance should and probably will be given the job, I think putting Murphy captain would be a brave call and would pay dividends. Not only would he gain experience that is so rare at his age, but he has the right attitude to direct the others. In 3 or 4 years it would show, Murphy would have copped it from other teams trying to crunch him as skipper, and he will be a force to be reckoned with. Fev could learn from this kid, as well as others and whilst Kouta is still there, Murph would have help in seeing out the role properly.

Lance is the best of the worst IMO. Nobody is really a stand out to be captain but I see no problem in giving it to him for 2-3years whilst one of Murphy, Walker or Simpson can step up to the plate and then captain us for the next 10 years.

I'd still want Fevola to be one of the vice captains though, desptie the recent turmoil as he really is the one player that can get the whole team going and really build the momentum.

Kouta for mine. No real replacements at the moment, so seeing as he is still going let him keep it until another grabs the club by the scruff of the neck and demands the job.

Way too early for the kids. Let them concentrate on their own game and establish yourself. Don't want to risk ruining them with too much responsibility at their early stages of their career. Lance should get the job for at least the next 3 years. Very good at controlling things around him and the obvious choice at this stage. I'd actually go for Lappin or Scotland as VC. Maybe one of the kids could be a DVC (do they still have those?) if they want to give them some experience as a leader.

I actually think Stevens might flourish with the extra responsibility. He's a dangerous and exceptional player, and he needs to feel under pressure to perform every week. Sometimes he just seems to coast knowing he'll be playing next week. When he's on though, we're a completely different side.

Having said that, Lance would still be my choice for captain. He's the ripe age, and he's arguably our best player. - Fair choice.

Guys lets not get ahead of ourselves here a put way too much pressure on Murphy. Sure he was having possibly the best 1st year of any draftee, but lets not forget that he only played 12 and a bit games (and very good 1ns at that). This is no justification to throw him in the deep end and make him captain of the proud club. He is still learning the game. Next year there will be a lot more attention taken upon him, therefore we need him to be able to break through that barrier without the rigours of being the captain. I think he will be a terrific Captain one day but giving him this duty at only 19/20 y/o would be way to strenuous for this kid. Give him another 2-3 years in the system and then give him the captaincy.

Therefore the only other options that we have is to
1. Have Kouta continue with the rains for another year or
2. Because Kouta is definitely going to retire at the end of next year give it to Lance (although be4 the incident i would have given it to Fev) and let Kouta help both Lance and Shmurf. In 2-3 years time Lance will be 28-29 and the rip old age to hand it over to Murphy.

Agree, and similar to my thoughts re Stevo on a previous post.

Re: With Fevola out of the running ...
my view was alway Lance should get it, with Fev to take over after 2/3 years then Murph couple of years after Fev, when he was a 24/25 year old.

Well think Fev has all but lost any chance for now and the future, so will probably be Lance now, Murph to follow.

Stevo could also be a chance. I am a real fan unlike some others and if he got it could be the best thing to happen. It could raise him to even higher standards in reponsibility and perfomance.

The answer to this question is easy

Whitnall

And it was Whitnall before the Fevola incident .Fev is a clown and will always be a clown , not suited to the captain's role ever

The only question over Whitnall being captain would he come back after the break in good shape and by all reports , he has , so give it to him

Whitnall for 2 years and the young guns should be ready for the role after that

Whitnall now, with one of the younger kids to take over in 2 to 3 years. There is no way in hell that Murphy can be captain at 19 - I doubt it's ever happened before in the history of our game. He's mature for his age, yes, very mature, but he's not ready to be captain - he's only played 12 games and had one year in the system. Besides, I'm not sure if some of the older guys could really respect someone his age as captain, especially given his lack of experience. Maybe at 22, but now it's better to let him concentrate on his footy than give him pressure that he doesn't yet need.

I agree. Whitnall now and Murphy after him.

I would consider dropping Stevens from the leadership group.

I personally voted for Murphy, heard he' an outstanding leader on and off the field. Might rub Lance up the wrong way, but I think young Marc is the way to go.
