So there should be a few misses a long the way Hark's, you have to learn from your mistakes.

I'm not a Judd groupie, but one thing I have learn't about him, is that he always is the utmost professional when it comes to business as he was as a footballer. I didn't agree with him regarding Melbourne's celebrations after they made finals, but that is his opinion, doesn't make it right or wrong.

We are down and out and crawling along the canvas trying to grab the ropes at the moment, while the media are sinking the boots in, Juddy is trying to keep the Carlton faithful up with a bit of wit and banter. Most other clubs have a person in the media spruiking their clubs, it's about time we joined the party.

You're not in the position to make critical public mistakes when it comes to your own club though.
Say what you want to say about other clubs, but one has to be very, very careful what they may say about their own.

We seem to applaud every little perceived win, even in common everyday banter as was the case with Judd last night, but I don't see what that does for the club as whole. I don't care for Judd protecting his ego. I want him to represent the CFC in the most dignified and professional manner possible, as he's now the bobble-head of the board.

Maybe he can do both. We can only see.

I was surprised when he went into the media post footy,

I don’t see a problem with him speaking his mind in the media & sticking up for the club having said that I don’t watch any of the footy shows.

if he slips up so be it, these days it’s forgotten within 48 hours

Fair crack Harks …. took him 3 years to win a brownlow ….. next year here should be ripe for a Quill ;)

It's a completely different game now and some have played it for harder and longer than he has.

He may ultimately be the best things that's ever happened for us from a public profile perspective, but I can't help to get nervous when I see the words Judd and Media together. Maybe that will change.
I think Judd is great on TV, provides balanced, logical responses and another Carlton voice besides Bolton.

When Caro asked him what he thought of whinging Scott’s comments about the AFL assisting lower clubs, he gave a simple response that showed up what Scott comments were - sour grapes.

Not necessarily.

McGuires King Kong comments took him down a bad path for more than 48 hours.
Even what Judd was saying a few weeks ago could have been perceived as misogynous by some, when he had that discussion with Caroline Wilson.
(I didn't think it was, but that's the thin line we tread these days, albeit an often ridiculous line.)

Anyway, each to their own, but I worry a little about Judd and his role in the media whilst on our board.

If he wasn't on that show can you imagine how feral they'd have been to Carlton this year? Two known haters going at us all year. TGFJ. I know it's a fine line between board member and commentator, but this industry is riven with these issues and they're not going away anytime soon. And people like Caro, Robbo are defacto club employees with their direct lines of access to their favoured clubs. to So we're either joining the party (admittedly at a much higher tone than McGuire, Brayshaw) or we're getting smashed at every available opportunity.

I agree, HARKER.

Any other show would have been a better choice than that one, which masquerades as hard hitting and confrontational when in fact it's edgy for the sake of it and confected drama for the sake of creating controversy. I understand it's got a pretty big reach, and because it's a 'he said/she said' format, when everyone's flinging mud everyone's covered in it (what I mean here is that, if you look at the Ralph/Judd exchange here, both of them smear each other, with us laughing at Judd's evisceration of Ralph where an Essendon/Melbourne supporter would celebrate someone finally calling out Judd on his bullshit) so he'll survive relatively unscathed, but it is more than a little concerning that this is the format/avenue he's decided to go down to promote the club for mine.

That, and being both a media personality and a club official is a fraught path, as McGuire well demonstrates. Sure, he's done spectacularly for his club for a very long time, but he's also dragged them down in others.

I tend to agree with Harks but I could be wrong.

As much as I like Juddy handing out the smacks to Lloyd, Caro, Ralphy etc I don't think he actually wants to be doing the media. I get the impression he'd rather be just about anywhere else than on a panel show. He serves as a curiosity on the shows he's on because he's not really joining in, he just sits there until they flick his switch and he adds, more often than not, just some pretty bland comment. Lets face it, the most controversial thing he's said on FC is that he thought Melb over celebrated.

Maybe it is surveying well for Ch9 that he's on there and , as a Carlton supporter, I like seeing and listening to him, I'm just not sure about other consumers of this product.

Is he on these shows for the coin or just to keep himself busy?

Think he realised investment banking is boring as shit and he can make more money doing nothing in the media

Fair question, Harks

Judd's handled himself well all year - could also hypothesise he'll just get better and better

He will win a Brownlow in the media ……. prob get 48 possession with 46 contested against Slobbo if they ever went head to head.

unfortunately if you have played the game at afl level you seem to be deemed appropriate for a role as columnist, caller, specialist commentator or general all-round shit-stirrer - no other qualification than you once - or even still do - play - if you can string a few words together in english without being sick down your shirt you're pretty much a lock - that's mostly our afl media contingent right there
