How's the genuine excitement on Daisy's face at the end... so, so valuable to have that kind of guy at the club right now - a conduit between the kids & senior players.

Daisy is a mini-Balme.
Not so much across the whole of the football department but just a bit of glue that keeps some loose ends together.

Thrilled for De Koning, although maybe introduced a little earlier than what may have been the ideal, but this kid gives his all.
As a matter of fact so does Schumacher....and O'Brien...and Dow....and likely whoever we bring into the club this year.

I think we should have learned a lot from the past couple of years of recruiting. Happy to miss on any highlight kings for those that add to the whole.

Happy for Whitnall to be a legend, he was a gun in a lot of ways, particularly his 2000 season, burst on the scene very early, I remember reading articles comparing him to Carey.

He was unlucky he was at a club that was falling to pieces, lacked quality off field people, leadership and drive ane let himself go at times. Also unlucky being a forward in a really weak side for many of his later years plus I think he carried a bad knee for years as well.

Had he been in a more professional and successful club he probably would be viewed in a similar light to Roughead. Not the quickest player but good in a small space and all the smarts and class. Had good agility and leap but he became pretty slow later in his career.

Think there's a bit of Whitnall about Paddy Kerr. Been lucky enough to run into him a few times years ago and have a beer with him, seems a pretty quiet and decen bloke though he seems to have been involved in some off field stuff pose retirement.

He copped a lot of crap about his weight and whatnot, but I always liked him.

Obviously Big Red lacked the athleticism for the modern game, but he kicked a stack of goals whilst still a teenager, and and 70 goals in a season when he was ~20yo.

Would have been a champion 20 years earlier, and what little pace/mobility he had was then ruined by injuries.

Played >200 games, was briefly Carlton captain. Put his body on the line. Deserves more respect from fans.
Well said.

It is no secret on here that I was a huge fan of the 'Red' man. Watching him, particularly in his earlier years, was a real highlight. He played footy way beyond his years, knocking up multiple goals while still in his teens.

Sadly the onset of OP in 2002 & subsequent knee issues, most likely contributed to by his size, prevented him from having the stellar career that he was on track for. Of course it didn't help that the umpires consistently free kicked him for shepherding in one on one contests. This was one strength he still had left as his body let him down, the ability to outpoint opponents with clever use of his body.

It certainly is fantastic to see him get recognition from the club that he served so well.. Well done Red!!!!

Congrats RED!

Well deserved, brilliant mind of a player in a poor body. Was one of my favourite players

Absolutely dominated a practice match against the filth at the QEO in Bendigo as a youngster, watched him with interest from then on. Loved how he made others better.

I'm probably reading to much into this but did anyone else notice Big Hs face when Bolton said he's really improving? He didn't look overly enthusiastic about whay Bolton had to say.

Anyway, very happy for TDK.
Think it might’ve been an "oh shit, the coach actually just praised me" moment.

Get a feeling H could be one that needs a little tough love at times and has got this. Now, like Bolts said about TDK, he seems to be getting what it takes to be an AFL player.

Once he’s fully got that, with his height, pace and skill set, look out!!

That spine Bolts mentioned could legit be AFL No.1 IMO

Yep, there's seemingly a mental arm wrestle going on there; not a bad one, more fatherly tough love

Didn’t help that the AFL umpires DVD featured Whitnall for most of those free kick interpretations.

Loved his goal in the 1999 Preliminary Final.

Daisy may make a decent Player Welfare Officer one day.

Lobbe could be our next ruck coach.

Doc is a future senior coach.

Getting some quality characters through the club.

Only just seen this, really happy for the big fella.

Many forget just how good he actually was and what a brilliant football brain he had.

Forever in his gratitude for that goal in the ‘99 prelim, one of the best days of my life.
I was at the function yesterday, close to 700 people, Lance spoke well and was over the moon and humbled to be inducted into the hall of fame,
“I’m still in shock really. This award means a lot to me, it really does,” Whitnall said. “This award is above the best and fairest as I see it and is a great honour.

Shame his career ended with a degenerative knee injury, he achieved a bit all Australian, 300 something goals John nicholls medal, captain, and kicked that goal in the 99 prelim
Deserves its own thread really.

And Tiger Croswell who want there but his son spoke, another legend and wow what a player.

John Nicholls is an absolute gentleman had the pleasure to meet him
