Johnathon Brown just gave BB a whack on, On the couch. Showed several clips of centre clearances (which we won) with 6 Adelaide defenders to our 2 forwards, with our players kicking it straight to them. Mentioned Adelaide kicked 8 goals from their defensive 50.

Called it bad coaching and thinks BB must deliver next season.

I find Brown more than a little annoying and a bit of a meathead but i was really disappointed with BB coaching on Saturday night.

The AFL might have to intervene at Carlton

Is this what we're going to be subject to in the next few weeks?
Has it a purpose?

Next two years, sadly.

The opening line says it all "Carlton have been an unmitigated disaster this season."

Unmitigated? No .... Cripps, Dow, McKay, C Curnow, Byrne (returning strongly) and latterly TDK.

Growth in kids, better coaching, better injury outcomes and some new faces ... hardly the stuff of intervention.

Caro was always going to go feral after what SOS did to her on FC. But it was still worth it.

2/20 at 59% is a disaster.

Brown is not a bit of a meathead. He’s all the way meathead. But he’s right in this case. Last game of the year. We were winning it out of the middle yet not trying things, not allowing our players to create opportunities for themselves. Wasn’t pretty coaching, but meh. Last game of a shit year. Who cares.

So in Adelaide's f50 was it 6 vs 10?
Or more numbers on the wing?

Looked it up for confirmation.

Yep.

An unmitigated disaster has no positive points.

Are you really trying to say 2018 had no positive points? Pretty silly assertion, if you are.

There are plenty of positives from this year that indicate that we're on the right track. That's not to say we've not made some big mistakes and need to change quite a few things for 2018. But to say no positive points from 2018 is just silly.

I think we had a couple extra out on the wing.

Yep hate to say it but it does sound like bad coaching...that's purely a coaching decision to set up like that.

Can't see how that could in any way be a good centre square set up...we're actually winning the clearances, why wouldn't you go 6v6 and get it quickly into an even numbered forward line?

Then obviously if you do have a 2v6 forward line set up with extras on the wing, centre square players need to be disciplined and find those teammates on the outside by hand to run it forward, not just hack kick it into F50.

Don’t want to argue the point.

9 50+ losses is an utter goat ****.

I pay attention to Dunstall, Brereton and Lyon because they've seen a build close up, and know the time and pain and the importance of doing it right and staying the course. The rest aren't actually looking long-term, they're just in the week-long footy news cycle. Bad game = bad club. Very bad game = very bad club.

The rest fit into four categories:
- Agendas: Caro, Whately.
- Born stupid: Cornes, Carey.
- Head knocks / alcohol impact: Browns (Jonathan and Campbell).
- All of the above: Robbo.

The worry for 2019 is that BB is in the gun. All eyes on him. 0-4 and he's the total focus of the mob until they get their man. Club has to stick fat. Supporters should too. I don't think BB had a great end to the season, and that last game was poor. But we've surely learned not to march of the beat of the media drum (Hardwick, Buckely) and not to assume coaches are incapable of adaptation (Hardwick, Buckley).

I think we just had a couple of players coming off the defensive side of the square. If the likes of Ed would look for the runners instead of banging it forward, it wouldn't have looked as bad.

Our runners would have been streaming past stationary Crows trying to pick them up.

If we lost the clearance, we had extra bodies close to the area to apply pressure.

Looks shit when the players don't play smart.

Was strange because we have been playing 6-6-6 the last few weeks. Think BB didn't want the season to end with a 100 point thumping and after playing OK in the first quarter we gave them a number of stupid easy goals and then he went too defensive trying to stem the bleeding. At very least we needed to ensure that Laird was manned up.

In the vision he showed we had extras on he wing, the problem was, we won it out of the centre and kicked it straight to a 6 on 2 and effectively gave them clean possession of the ball to which they just strolled out of their defensive 50.

The commentators on the night were also confused by the tactic.

Ed is just one of a bunch of not very clever footballers and not very good at basic skill execution types currently having to be played. When a bloke is tired and has low confidence in his ability to execute or in ability of teammates to receive - he typically goes for the long ball option...Simmo ignores team mates all the time and half the time turns the ball over - slightly better at executing long ball option - people that quote Simmos forward yardages gained ignore the amount of turnovers he causes going for the hero play and avoiding shorter smarter plays - because clearly he doesn't rate a bunch of players around him.
