Our club in the Media

Every football club in the AFL routinely makes a lot of mistakes and I actually think the successful ones are only differentiated by making less mistakes than their peers
Yeah it's all about the volume of mistakes & getting things right as a club that makes the difference.

We needed outsiders to come in and recommend fixing 20+ things in our football department, with a couple of points on what we are doing well (e.g. list management). Top clubs would do reviews like this and get less than a dozen recommendations to fix and would have more areas that are humming.

It's why Sydney are able to make a few tweaks and get quick improvement compared to 3-4 coaches/administrators having a go over 10 years with us. Once we get it right we then just have to sustain it and don't get spooked like we did when Ratten missed the 8!

I think it's a strange appointment as well. Fantastic player, but he's been out of the game for 25 years, and he doesn't strike me as particularly smart or innovative.

Glad someone said it. Was thinking the same thing but he's so revered around here I thought I'd have my head knocked off.

Guess we just have to hope / trust / pray that Sayers knows what he's doing.

Being 68, you'd think retirement would be nicely setup with all the money he's earnt over the journey. Shouldn't need to work, but may be the type that just cant stop and needs to be doing something.
You'd think that, but it's only really the last 5-10 years that coaches are paid absurd amounts. He's gotten out of the game just as the pay started to reach nest egg proportions.

I don't think he's in the media because he's bored, I think he needs the money. I can't begrudge him that.

What does Greg know that is relevant today, Skills required and hard work and an undiminished desire to succeed in all he does.

Mick's got that Lexus of Brighton money...

I agree with you Geth.
It’s ok for posters to give their views but it’s getting a bit tiresome listening to some who just continually pot the club at every chance without real substance behind their rationale other than they don’t agree with something the club has done.

bang! or the clubs that take risks, cop the mistakes and LEARN from em..........great post..........

One on one mentor with Jobe Watson, Tom Mitchell and Lachie Neale over the recent years

I would guess it was a strategic appointment more than anything. A much loved favourite son with a strong football pedigree for sure but I would imagine the appointment has raised a few eyebrows.
Correct me if I am wrong, wasn't he on the board years ago and didn't last very long?

Like someone has already stated it’s good to have a cross section of people on boards. He will impart good transition knowledge down to the team . Hope he coaches a few players also . Go Blues.

I dont think he would be coaching players in his new role.

Diesel would smell BS a mile away when it comes to football and players - he is being used as a Judd replacement -a seriously credentialled Carlton footballer there to talk football when required at Board level. Don't think he is on there as Chairman of the audit committee. Every Board needs such an ex Club great if they are lucky to be able to get one.

Browne and Morris aren't sources.
They have sources. Caro has honed top shelf sources...Browne...yeah? Not so much.
They become sources when 3rd string journos write articles that based on a comment by one of them.

So one of these guys puts out an unsubstantiated rumour which then gets regurgitated.

Ando’s Shout: How close the Blues to came to signing up Alastair Clarkson for coaching job

"Clarkson, 53, is said to have seen enough in Carlton’s list to guarantee a genuine run at success over the next three to four years, and his desire for more flags was clear.
But ultimately a lack of board stability and the threat of an extraordinary general meeting were contributing factors in his decision to walk away from the game for at least a year.

His potential availability raised the question at Carlton as to whether an interim coach be put in place for a season to keep the seat warm for Clarkson, but the club’s preference is for the right person to begin a long-term campaign as soon as possible.
As for further changes at Carlton, expect at least one more significant off-field removal to come."
