Me too Dave, but they have been very strong today.
I guess we just wait until the club announces something

Well when Sharwtz said it on SEN it was strong then too.

This is the 1st I have heard of it

Travis is on vets list in 2015 onwards. That means we can pay him an extra $100-$115k per year outside the cap. That is a nice little back stop for his 3rd year and onwards on any new deal.

Agree though that it's time to put this thing to bed.

I think we all need to take a collective deep breath and chill out a bit.

I know the negotiations haven't gone as smoothly as everyone would've liked but you'd think Cloke was the first player in history to remained unsigned heading into the second half of a given year.

Also I think you have to take a lot of what the media throw up with a grain of salt, Cloke has been fodder for them all year and this is the type of reaction that would have them rubbing their hands together.

Cloke for yarran and hampson? And we can give wood to gws That would be a great trade or if he goes via free agency we will get 2 first rounders

'IF' Cloke leaves (and I dont think he will), then we certainly wont be trading for him.

He's a restricted free agent. As long as we offer more $$ than Collingwood, we would get him for... well... for free.

The AFL would compensate you for him leaving as a free agent via giving out draft picks (similar to the GCS/ GWS compo picks).

Then again, its not a bad year to be getting some extra 1st rounders. Pretty strong draft apparently.

They are paying Judd $1m, then they want to pay Cloke $1m.

Neither will ever be eligible for veterans list there, so one must assume that Kreuzer, Murphy etc play for free?

Or is big jack in charge again?

Judd was not on a Mill a year, Check at the AFL player payments. He got paid well over 1 mill for his first 2 years and well under for the rest. His contract runs out next year.

To be honest, right now I'd let him go. If we could get two first round picks and maybe even pick up an experienced forward like a Fev (I wish) to carry the forward line to for a couple of seasons until players like Stewart, Ceglar etc. develop this would be great.
If he does leave we have to look at the positives. We can secure all other contracts and have some left over as a war chest to do some free agent hunting as well - if not this year then next. We will get a few decent picks into the bargain.

You do all realise that you only get/got two picks as compensation if you lose/lost someone (who was uncontracted) to either Gold Coast, or GWS, as they were getting established, don't you?

It's a totally different ball-game if you lose someone through free agency, as the AFL have said the most any club will receive as compensation for losing someone to free agency is one draft pick. I think the best you would get for Cloke would be one mid first round pick and that's it, just as we will if Goddard walks under free agency.

On top of that, if you then went out and immediately got someone from another club through free agency this year (with the money you had set aside for Travis), that compensation would be re-assesed, based on who you picked up from another club. If the AFL deemed them to be of "equal value" to Travis, you would get no compensation at all for Travis walking. If they deemed whoever you got to be not as good, you might get simply a 2nd or 3rd round pick as compo for losing Travis.

With all that being the case and the fact that your forward line with just Dawes as the tall target and not a lot else would be unlikely to win a flag, I think you simply have to re-sign Travis, even if it costs you a Wellingham.

You could certainly win a flag without a Wellingham, but how likely would you be of winning one without Travis in your forward line?

I think his drop in form this year has been mostly due to all this contract stuff and that once he has it all out of the way, he will return to being just about the most dominant "power forward" in the comp, as he was last year and could be for the next 5 years. He is only 25 after all, so he's just coming into the "prime" age of his career and already has a B&F and has dominated lots of games of footy.

That is all the more reason to sign him and I believe that from this year clubs will actually be given the choice of putting two on the veterans list (with half of their salary going outside the cap), as per usual, or going with the new method of being able to put a bunch of the older ones on there, with about $110K of each of their salaries being outside the cap. So if that is still the case in 2015 and Travis is still there, you could have as much as half of his contract outside the salary cap. If he is given a back-ended contract that will help even more.

Lol there is no need to worry about any offers to Cloke.

He will not go. Players do not leave successful clubs for an extra 100k or so.

Also everyone throws up the the theory that player X can earn more $$$$ elsewhere if they go when the reality is they can't. Clubs must pay a minimum of 95% of the cap so as you can see they can barely earn much more.

Everything will sort itself out.
Freo have reportedly upped their offer to $5.5 mil for 5 years, so that is a fair bit more than an extra $100K per year and Melbourne have apparently massively front-ended a lot of their recent contracts (including Mitch Clark's), so that they would have a huge amount of space in their salary cap to go after someone like Cloke at the end of this year. Mitch Clarke for instance might have gotten the bulk of his big contract money this season, getting a lot less for the next couple of years.

Wouldn't you rather know the facts of how free agency works, etc, rather than have many/all on here believe that you'd get two picks as compo if Cloke leaves, if it's only going to be one at best, etc, so that you can at least make an informed decision on whether you think it's best to re-sign him or not?

And we have plenty coming onto our board from other clubs all the time and it's usually perfectly civilized and can positively add to discussions, if it's done in a civilized and friendly manner.

So I'll do what I want, thanks, and if they want to block me for coming and giving some info that I thought you might all like to know, then that is their choice. If it's an unfriendly place though, that takes itself too seriously, then we probably won't want to come back anyway, so you don't need to worry.

If the pies lose cloke st Kilda would want to have Goddard signed cos he will be our number one target.

I'm sure you are wrong here but correct with your other commetns re compensation. The old 50% has been scrapped. That is why you team is having salary cap issues. You sigbnd Reiwoldt and Hayes to heavily backended deals that are now only discounted by $100/$115k per year instead of half their salary.

Also, how do you quote mulitple quotes? I haven't seen the option on new bigfooty?? Thanks in advance.

Screw that, he is a shade of his former self and I reckon we'd be going hammer and tongs for another KP player - not an average utility with anger problems.
