5. Marc Murphy - dominated in a dominant midfield
4. Bryce Gibbs - class with almost every disposal
3. Chris Judd - great again, but disposal still needs work :)
2. Mitch Robinson - would have been higher but for the long-bomb brain fades
1. Robbie Warnock - the midfield dominance had to start somewhere!

BYP - Ed Curnow

Like TG, I thought Laidler was good too, but Ed stood up almost as effectively as Judd in the last and the fact he had the poise to kick a tough one in the first when everyone else was missing sitters was impressive.

Special mentions: Eddie, Kade, Heath, Shaun and yes, Simon (beat Jack one out on as many occasions as he lost)

Think we'll decrease the games tally. Robinson is too experienced a player to be included, I think. Will make up my mind later on in the week but of the rest Curnow was the clear best.

Not sure why it matters if Robbo rated higher in terms of votes but Curnow was nominated as BYP more times. I think we are discerning enough observers of the game to be able to cope with judging players on their contribution, based on what we believe they should be contributing to the side, due to experience or whatever other criteria we self impose for the purposes of selecting the BYP.

If you narrow the field too much, you may be seen to be trying to contrive a result rather than allowing the cream to naturally rise to the top. Your call Mr Demetriou.:D:eek:

I think age shouldn't be the issue. All 1st and 2nd year players should be the only ones eligible for the BYP award. Getting a game alone is tough enough for these players. Guys like Robbo, Yazza and Jeff although still young in age are all in their 3rd year of the system now. They should all have a good grasp of what it takes to be a modern day proffesional football player and from an outsiders perspective you could say that they do.

I third that Laidler's game was underrated....stuck to his task across 4 quarters very well.....would be very happy to see him play a role like that for 22 more rounds.

He had a good game and except for one sloppy kick early on and a missed shepherd, he well and truly did his job.

Come to think of it there really were very few issues with all the new boys.
Duigan showed plenty and it was evident why Curnow was promoted so early, and these were selections (effectively) 33-36 odd for Laidler, 70 for Duigan and a rookie from last years draft.

Looking forward to seeing what the premium selections bring to the table. ;)
