What I mean is in the longer term.

It may seem somewhat presumptuous, but I know Dow will be a star and I know Setterfield will be a regular, quality player for the CFC and if we do acquire Walsh I know he'll also be a star midfielder for us. I simply don't feel the same way about Petrevski-Seton right now and wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't get the midfield minutes we expected him to....but if Im wrong? That would be terrific.

We all watch highlights, but when you watch the full impact an individual can have upon a game, it's somewhat more real.
This isn't a perfect game by Walsh by any means, but you can see the potential and work-rate here.
Will be nice to have a player, other than Cripps, capable of regularly getting his odd 30 possessions again...

A lot of rushed kicks and kicks that hit the ground well before his intended target in that video is a little bit concerning for mine.

Guess I just see things differently.
Not trying to pot the kid, just don't see it like the others.
What I can see is that his opponents can't shut him down. But I don't see him actually do much. Dunno.
Good luck to him, hope he has a long career wherever he plays and is happy with his time in AFL

If everyone was Victorian I'd take Rozee, Walsh and Rankine in that order.
I would be happy if we took Max King at no.1 just watching highlights between the top 8 players, Max by far is the most potent and exciting. 2 very tall fwds @ 200cm, 2 @ 195, 2 smalls. Be very hard to defend. Maybe SOS thinking outside the box?

he’s done an ACL, he’s a big man gravity isn’t on his side, fraught with danger. Too much talent in this draft

I think we're OK for talls, as good as Max King looks. Midfield still has no depth even with Setterfield being added.

I'm a little the same. I don't really have any worries about Walsh but I just don't see the super star potential that justifies the price we have put on the number 1 pick

Can’t dispute that, Max just looks unique, I get the hype around him.
I think our midfield depth isn’t so bad we just had a horror year of injuries, barely had: Kennedy, Murphy, Lang, Cunningham and Doc. Those 4 back plus Setters, might be a different vibe in 12 months. So bullish on Setters, hope he can get 20 games in this year in the 1s or 2s...

I don't really rate Lang & Cuningham and I'm not sure Murph will be a full time midfielder in 2019.
Agree, Setterfield will be a gun for us.

Expecting more from Lang tbh he’s going to have to battle this year for hes spot on the list

And if you were doing it for a team not needing a particular positional player how does it look?
That was my list without need for a position.

For Carlton? It wouldn't change a huge amount because I believe in taking the best available player with early picks.

1. Walsh
2. Smith
3. Rankine
4. Ben King
5. Lukosius
6. Max King
7. Rozee
8. Hately
9. Caldwell
10. Clark

As for Gold Coast it would be:
1. Walsh
2. Max King
3. Ben King
4. Lukosius
5. Smith
6. Blakey
7. Rozee
8. Rankine
9. Caldwell
10. Hately

I'd ******* hope so given all the hype about him being a safe and senior-ready pick.

I maintain that I don't see it as clear as others are claiming, but having gone back over footage of Walsh I've been perhaps a little too harsh about his speed and reaction time, but he still isn't particularly fast over the first 3-5 steps, which has an impact in many contested and loose-ball situations.

I’m also not all in on Walsh, he’s game is built around hard running and being extremely prolific, but I’m not sure we should be using pick one on a player that gets the footy 30-35 times a game, but isn’t particularly creative or damaging with ball in hand, in all fairness he does seem to be the most duel sided of the top prospects and the flaws in his kicking could be significantly improved once in a professional full time environment, the kid does seems like a real pro, the type that will work tirelessly at improving his game.

Duel sided? Well that’s definitely a no for me then. Can’t have a bloke running around fighting himself all the time.

I don't know ... I think we could probably do with a gut running ball magnet. Not saying he'll be the best player. He lacks the 'wow' of some of them. But interestingly he keeps consistently outperforming his peers. That's got to count for something.

I had questions about Zac Fisher as well when we drafted him. I thought his high impact at junior levels wouldn't impact at AFL level due to his lack of size and speed. But I was clearly wrong about him. I'm backing our current recruiters. They've been terrific over the last 3 years. If they think he's clearly the best, then there's a good chance they know what they're talking about.
