So apparently we're into Durdin....the CFC are so predictable

They keep telling us what they want and then aim for exactly those types. :)

Are you excited by the prospect of drafting Durdin?

McDonald actually does have a great tank apparently. His workrate is outstanding. The only knock on him seems to be a touch of unathleticism or agility or whatever the appropriate term is. He is the perfect size still imo for a KPF. 196 and will have a good build.

He seems a natural, and does the most important things for a KPF, consistently competes and consistently kicks the ball through the big sticks.

Nik Cox is absolutely intriguing. He seems completely ambidextrous, not just dual sided. Remarkable at his size. He looks a bit like the tall, gangly 18yo loping Bont when he is on the move too. With a bit more pace and athleticism. Gee he would be tempting with a high pick. He could be amazing. It would have been great to see if he had the footy smarts amongst the best at the Champs.

We had little opportunity to see things this year but upon my limited viewing McDonald comes off somewhat underwhelming as a possible 'best in the draft' scenario goes. For a while I got drawn into Lukosius as being that generational player, also......until I saw him live and changed my mind.
These types are clever and use the ball well but they're not match-winners.....for mine.
Anyway, things change but gut-feel tells me that he won't be the player many are talking him up to be.

Phillips has a bit of Cunnington about him. May not stand out from the crowd but will always be there.
Hollands? He's the one I'd love for us....but that's not going to happen. Can do things most can't and that alone is a weapon.

What we can't see from here is the dedication to the craft. That's where the recruiters earn their stripes.
The best talent alone doesn't mean you'll get he best player.

I'd love his type because the fit is there.
I don't care what anyone says, but you have to consider needs when going to the draft...as otherwise....you're daft.

Surely we will draft one of Corey Durdin, James Rowe or Will Papley as another small forward option at one of our selections.

Do we have the capacity for any more rookies? Could see us using a Rookie pick on a depth ready-made KPD option like Jackson Trengove. Or potentially Matthew Parker as a rookie if we don’t like any of the small forwards left on the board in the National Draft.

That's where you take small forwards, late 2nd round and beyond

Henry, Pickett, Weightman. All top 15 last year. Those silly AFL clubs. :)

You take what makes you better and what you don't have....and especially so, given our list rebuild.

One size fits all and adhering to some 'misrepresented' cliches does not make for smart recruiting now...does it?

And how are they travelling?

If that's the case, the pick swap upgrading pick 48 to 31 doesn't make any sense then.

Fair chance all three would have been available at that selection. Some of those guys may go undrafted should clubs only take around 50 or so selections in the draft.

I still believe the Isiah Winder is a better prospect as a small forward given his elite speed, acceleration and x-factor. Just think he has more tricks and athletic traits to make it at the top level. Better size for a small forward too at 180cm.

I'm not completely against the idea of drafting players standing at 173cm (Rowe and Durdin). Just don't think the risk reward warrants using one of our 2nd round selections though.

By percentage terms, how much better a player do you think Gibbons is for being dual sided?

I’d say at least 20% better.

He doesn’t have advantages in terms of height, strength and top speed but what he has is agility, clean hands and understanding of the game.

The fact he can pick up the ball and bounce off in any direction saw him kick a number of goals this year on his left foot as well as set up goals for others.

If he had to double back or revert to handballing we don’t get those goals and he doesn’t provide enough value to get picked each week.

How's your 'Not in my top 10 Rowell' travelling?

Don't you adhere to a 'let's wait and see' scenario? So the clubs have no idea what they're doing...but someone....someone else does. Come on now. :)

There it is, soon as you get challenged you deflect, predictable again

We have had this dance, you just crawled back in your hole

Saad and William's, speed and foot skills, where was that small forward?

Hahaha

What is interesting is the fact that the Doggies are still actively seeking a small forward after taking Weightman in the first round.

He was dropped in round 8 after having 4 disposals, 3 kicks, 1 handball and 0 goals in round 8.

He then played again in round 10 as was dropped after 5 disposals, 3 kicks, 2 handballs and 1 goal.

Those numbers look very similar to those that were making Blues fans so frustrated with Cam Polson.

So glad SOS didn't get caught up in the small forward hype and drafted Kemp. More people will realise this once they see Kemp up and running.

We're in a nice position in this draft. Just hope we don't reach for the sake of drafting a small forward.

Yeah...good come back.....with "hahahahaha"....****ing brilliant.
Full of double standards mate. Do you even see this or is the mirror not allowed at your residence?

You seem to be in such a loop you don't even know whether you'e the dog or the tail?

Why are you asking me how those player are travleling in their first year, when you tell others that have to wait and see in a few years time what Rowell won't become? Answer me that? How does this universe work? :)

There's no doubt he hit the scene running and had an exceptional start to the year, but there are some guys who could potentially pass him in the long term.

Young with his elite kicking, Kemp with his size and mobility in the midfield, Ash with his line breaking ability, Jackson with his versatility and athleticism.

It's too early to make a call on who's the best from that draft.

Rowell was always the 'you know what you're going to get prospect.' He was always going to be a B+ to A Grade midfielder, but clearly didn't have the same upside or scope for growth as some of the other guys.

Go back to the first statement strawman

Our club will now look at a number of players in the late 2nd round and that's where I believe where a pure small forward should generally be taken

We have selected/traded for one small forward in the last 3 years, an aging Betts, despite your claims Martin will be camped permanently in the forward line, let that sink in, again

You then rattle off small forwards taken in the first round, many that play further up the ground, basing this on recruiters never err? Bloody funny

Keep that propaganda going Harks, I love it

really like the durdin links. He sounds exactly like the type of player we need in our team. then henry walsh with our 2nd pick. Sorted
Blues fans would love watching Durdin. He is absolutely lightning fast out on the field.

If you want a ruckman, Shannon Neale would be a better option as he's super athletic and has the ability to play forward too. Perfect long term Casboult replacement if you ask me and would be a chance to be available at pick 31. He's a great size for that ruck/forward option too, currently standing at 202cm.

He's the type of player you'd look back on and say why wasn't he ever in the conversation as a top 10 pick. Like many other speculative prospects, he may well just be a serviceable 2's player bobbing up for the occasional game every now and then, but his upside is enormous given his size and athleticism.

He's also got that look about him that he means business and he tackles to hurt. We need more player like him. Also, when he goes in the middle, he's effectively a 4th midfielder. If we were ever looking at the prospect of playing two rucks, this guy would be the perfect foil for TDK rotating between the ruck and forward line.
