Carlton people calling others arrogant won't wash. We are the kings of arrogant, we just hung up our swagger suits for a couple of years. As for biggest rival, why do you think the 99 PF win felt so good? Essendon are the only Vic team I genuinely fear and respect.

the question doesn't even need to be asked, collingwood is carlton's greatest rival by a long way, and then essendon is a long way ahead of richmond and then richmond is a long way ahead of anyone else.

Essendon / Collingwood

For me this waxes and wanes depending on the circumstances. In the 90's Essendon were the bigger rival IMO, but this no doubt was related to the Blues having more to do with the Bombers come September. I think the Collingwood rivalry is perhaps more deeply seated though, and if exposed to finals atmosphere would easily come out as the bigger of the two.

Richmond isnt a rival! They're just living off the past.

Collingwood is only a rival in balance sheet size - theyve' got what we want. We're on the road to getting it.

Essendon isnt a rival anymore - they were a rival last year for the spoon, but thats about it.

I think we should start thinking about teams in the top 4 as our rivals. They're where we want to be. They're in our spots. The suburb to suburb rivalry is dead. The VFL is dead. Were in the AFl now and like all Clubs, we should be setting ourselves high.

this may be different to the majority, but for me, definately essendon. i hate them more than any other sporting club in the whole world (i do respect them however). nothing feels so good as beating essendon

yeah the carlton-essendon matches are always great watching, especially after the preliminary finals of 1999 and 2000, when they were the two best sides in the comp.
