Please excuse the Magpie stench that I have bought into this board - however I do have a comment/question for Blues supporters.

2 years ago the team appeared to lack pace and the ability to move the ball quickly and accurately, while they were not the Neesham-Dockers they certainly chipped the ball around a bit, muc to the frustration of players like Camporeale.

I saw them for the first time this year against the Bulldogs and they seemed to be a very pacy side, and their disposal, particularly by foot, was of a very high standard. One of the young fellas who was playing out of a HBF reminded me of James Clement, both in his attack on the ball and kicking style.

I would be interested to know what Blues fans feel is a realistic aim for the club, particularly if the foreward line plays to its full potentialm, and what finishing position would be considered an "unexpected success".

Anyway I shall leave now and let the smell dissipate a little.

Regards

S. Pete

Top 8 is very realistic and will be disappointed if we didn't play finals this year.
How far we go will depend on Livingston, Waite, Walker, DeLuca and other youngsters development since last year, injuries to key players such as French (crucial), Lappin, Campo, Stevens & Kouta but Whitnall probably holds the key above all others. If he continuous to play the way he has started and supports Fevola then we can finish in the top4.

Might be thinking of Luke Linvingston. Looks a bit like Clement at the moment with the crew cut. Can't think who else it could be.

I will be happy if we play finals football.

SB, might be going a bit too far about top 4. Would like to think that we could play finals this year, however, we have to be realistic about our chances. Dependent on form and inuries, Carlton could finish anywhere from 7-10.

The way we've played the last 3 weeks, we are capable of beating any other side in the comp.

Whether our young side can sustain this form and discipline throughout the season is something that will not be known till later on. Will be extremely disappointed if we miss out on the finals this year.

Making the 8 should be our best expectations...we will have a better idea where we are headed mid year . I am also amazed at the transformation from a static haphazard style of play to the running direct style that Pagan has brought about the mans a genius !
and so far i'm loving it !! :)

You're thinking of Sporn, Stumpy Pete.

As for our pace.
One word: ZIIIING!!!!! :D

ps. Carazzo is miles better than Wiggins.

Was really impressed with Carazzo's work in the centre square on Saturday night especially after half time.

he is not miles better than Simon Wiggins though. Wiggo is as tough as nails! players who throw themselves around recklessy like wiggo are priceless. Give him time; he is going to be a beauty!

yer iv'e met carrazzo his a nice bloke n against melbourne he almost cayght aaron davey. so he has speed and talent and i think he'll be a great half back flanjer or winger

Keep a lid on it the top 4 sides will still beat us comfortably as we need all our players up and running to win, whilst their sides can afford a bad day by one or two of their stars.

I don't think we can say either way. Not until we play a top 4 side. But then again, who is a top 4 side?...... us?

I think top-8 is realistic this year, top-4 next year. But this side continues to surprise. The Blues list definitely has the biggest X-factor in the comp. Lots of talented young players with huge room for improvement. Hard to know just how good this side will get when they all click. Their fast running, attacking, direct style of play is fun to watch.Stark contrast to what we had 2 or 3 years ago. Lots of tall, attacking, running players. One of the of most important ingredients is the fantastic team spirit. Everyone gives 100% and supports each other. Pagan's has created a great young team, desperate to improve. Fev and Whitnall firing up forward has given the younger players enormous confidence. Hope they do well on Saturday, but the more experienced Weagles will be hard to beat. :)

Pagan is turning carlton into the kangas of the 90s. Its not that the side is so quick but the style of play is so direct it seems other sides are caught out. You have your two main forwards (ala carey and mckernan) and options in the middle. I think you could finish anywhere from 6 to 9. Round 1 should be a cracker

You stole my thunder haha

I was also going to say i'm not sure we are that much quicker than years gone by, i just think our ball handling abilities have improved and it makes us appear to have more time on the ball and using it to better advantage.

As for Livo i'm still waiting to see how he performs when we are really under the pump.

So far we have controlled the midfield in our preseason games and the ball being delivered into oppositons forwards lines hasnt been that great thus far, making it easier for the FUB to deal with.

A Bigger test awaits him this week.

Bulldogs had as many if not more inside 50's than us. I thought Livo comprehensively beat Grant both in pace and body strength. Any full-back will find it tough if the opposition completely dominates the midfield. Ask Thornton last year.

I hope we make the finals, and the early signs are great but lets not all start sucking each others ***** just yet. We've only beaten the Bomber twos, and very flat looking Demons (except in last qtr) and Bulldogs outfits.

7-10 could be where we're at.
ewwwwww couldn't you have used different terminology ..or taken it to the gay boards ?

sorry dude - was a loose pulp fiction quote. I actually thought the BF censors would've softened (figuratively speaking) my choice of words but apparently it's acceptable around here - which is a worry

You've fallen for the opposition's excuses. We deserved to win all those games.

BigFooty's odd. You can't say **** but you can describe a porno scene.

Top4....ease up....oh, sorry which year did you mean?

Seriously if all goes well we could scrape in the 8. You're right, our depth is a concern and hence we'll fall away very quickly if one of the big guys goes down. Livingstone is the key here, cos otherwise Thorton will have to play FB and then we're a CHB down....and so on and so on.

S. Pete, we are a lot quicker. I was not happy when I heard we were transferring all our games to Telstra, because as our previous coach said, it's like a basketball game, very very quick. Mind you, who have we played (at full strength) that will be playing finals footy so far?

I dont think making the top 8 is too big a stretch. Then once in the 8 anything can happen in the finals- dont believe me look back to 2001 and see who finished 4th (hint they finished last this year) If they can do it surely we can!
