Imo the most improved aspect of the side so far has been the pressure our players have been applying. They chased all game and the tackles constantly stuck. Credit goes to Bret Ratten for this, you can see he has had a big influence. Hopefully they can keep this going into and throughout the season.

Spot on XXX, defensive pressure is the best it has been for years. Murph is a particular standout, with some extra upper bosy strength his tackles are really sticking and he has added a real defensive side to his game. Eddie Betts is his usual terrier self and our defense has also been superb with the pressure they are applying.

The added size to a lot of the players like Russel and Carazzo has really helped and although JR might not have won much of the ball you couldn't fault him for his chasing and tackling. As well as this, every time an opposition player has the ball in our forward line, Fev looks as if he is going to steam roll them and I love it! :thumbsu:

Poor Disposals isn't new all the years i've followed carlton i've seen them do plenty of poor disposals that happens alot with other clubs its called putting pressure on the Opposiotion thats part of the Game unfortunally gotta give em le way eg when ya get bump as ya kick or slung as ya kick

i tip Hawthorn made the most Poor disposals

Who's our skills coach? Our skills are still ordinary - which will improve over time I understand, but we need help and lots of it - QUICK SMART.

Houlihan..........FRUSTRATING........

Pressure was good, we just have to be that committed each week otherwise we'll get smashed with our turnovers (this comment is 100% recycled from 5 years ago).

The pressure they have applied the past two weeks has been a noticeable standout. Their hard running and tackling was superb again tonight. They look more focused and confident too!! Every game is a test for us and I must say, the past two tests have been great wins!! Bring on the third!!! :D :D

how good does bryce gibbs tackle??

along with murph, these two tackle better than probably 90% of the rest of the list and they're only in their 1st and 2nd years!

Was very impressed with Gibbs tackling. He looked nervous when he got the ball, but his tackling was great for a second game, 17 year old. Can't wait till he's comfortable at AFL level.

His skills are awesome. He effected a turn-over tackle on Mitchell. His kicking techinique is just perfect - even off one step he can clear 50m e.g. kick on the HFF to Fev in the goal square. Gibbs is all class. We just need to gradually ease him in. These NAB games are an ideal opportunity to get our young players some invaluable experience. And for the record, despite the media-spin, the Hawks side was very close to full strength, only some ordinaries weren't included. All the Hawks best players were on the park last night. I only wish we had played Bower instead of Saddington though. :)

Would reckon Jacobs, Smith, Vandenburg, Croad, Brown and Ladson would still be part of their best starting line-up, Parrot.

Of those outs I would only consider Croad and Brown to be a major loss. Jacobs is solid but not a dominant defender, Smith getting on but a good linkman, Vandenberg offers toughness and Ladson is midfield depth. I just think the gap between those guys and those that replace them is not that pronounced as to make a huge difference.

Anyone have any idea as why Bower and Hartlett are not getting a game? I was keen to see how the likes of these guys had improved over the summer...

I have every confidence that Bower would provide a better role that what Saddington has been doing.

I agree. I was willing to give Saddo the benefit of the doubt considering he has obviously worked hard during the pre-season and played a pretty good game against Fev in the intra-club match.

The last two games Saddo really hasn't had that much of an opportunity but in saying that, when he has been on the ground, he hasn't really impressed. I think I counted him doing one good thing last night in the final quarter but I think Bower definately needs to come in next week at the expense of Saddington.

While there were still too many skill errors, many could come from the very humid conditions on a very big ground. Fatigue woulkd've kicked in after the 1st qtr. The first qtr was pretty good from both sides, alot of good, free running footy. After that it become an in-close, pressurised scrap full full of errors but may have suited us more than the Hawks. Loved the loved the 4 qtr pressure and workrate.

Absolutely. The way the media were carrying on, was as if they were missing 8 superstars. Hardly, it was just an excuse. In terms of our list, I am totally bewildered as to why Bower hasn't played the first 2 games. I would always play him ahead of Saddington. :)

Considering the way Hawthorn finished off their game against the Dees last week, I was impressed that we stuck with them the entire game considering last week we kind of died off.

Our midfield got on top of their midfield after quarter time and our backline were all over their forwards.

Was good to see Kennedy leading up the ground and taking some good marks :thumbsu: Another area we have lacked recently.

Although the skill level was not the best, there are still some good signs.

The media have quite obviously still got a major thorn in their toe over us. Who cares. It will make it all the more sweet when we kick some serious ass.
I just hope the opposition underates us as much as the media do.

I'm sure that Phil McCreviss (hawks poster) is aware of who Carrazzo is now - he's the one that kicked two goals (one of those was the winning goal) on 'lazy' Luke Hodge, the only defender in the league not to worry about defending his man.
Hodge did really well to rake up a thousand possessions with chip kicks back and forth to Mitchell and Carwf all night - really special stuff :thumbsu:
Almost Bowden quality.
