Bates was then poached by Melbourne after the Demons' doctor of 20 years, Andrew Daff, quit that club two weeks after high-performance boss David Misson came on board with Mark Neeld and Neil Craig. Daff departed after being told he would have to report to Misson.

If Caro writes anything about Bradshaw, Eddie McChins, Dane Swan and Essendon board and coaching group can be disregarded as bitter bulldust.

Her carry on about Melbourne shows how little she knows about list management.

Can anyone remember her writing an article about a game, how a team is playing or even the pros and cons of a particular footballer's on field performances.

Gossip journalist. Writing about football like this is the equivalent of writing about what actors and musicians do on set or in the studio and if anyone is using coke. Big farken deal!

That is a pretty bad article, tells us that Bates was employed at North and then nothing........ She needs to stick to opinion pieces.

Scary thing is people still buy papers and believe what she says, how those people are smart enough to raise the money to buy a newspaper will remain a mystery to me.

No we are not. Bates is under scrutiny during his time at Melbourne. We overhauled our whole player management department pre Bates to make sure the director of medical services approved of anything given to players.

Yeah, could be. The Earth could also drift off orbit and go crashing into the sun. I am sure Dr Bates will be investigated, but we would only come into the picture if he admitted to having done anything wrong while with us and it is unlikely to happen. Dr Saunders would have had to approve any type of player management medication or supplements. I am not sure what Melbourne were doing or if they were vulnerable.

"While AFL investigators remain sceptical about the Demons' stance that their doctor alone misled the club over his relationship with controversial sports scientist Stephen Dank, the Bates connection to Dank could not be denied following the release of text messages involving players and supplements."

We weren't one of the clubs Dank said he worked with. They also have Dank's email and sms history, if he had dealings with us, they would know about it already.

lol she flat out made it up about us. ASADA had information linking Dank to Essendon and another player at one club, that player is obviously the one at Melbourne. She is pulling s**t out of her arse trying to drag us in.

We have already provided the AFL with a detailed account of our process, even if Bates was peddling steroids at Melbourne it would have no impact on us unless he said he was injecting our players and I have a better chance of winning the lotto than him widening the number of parties that are going to sue him for malpractice.

We have been using modern practices to monitor player health, you want to compare our injury status in recent years under Steve vs the state of players under Con, I hope she is sued for defamation if she tries to slander Dr Saunders.

It's worth noting that up until Neeld rebuilt the footy dept we were about fifteen years behind the comp in a maggot ridden building in Junction Oval. Daff was with us for 20 years but the footy dept got completely refurbished and modernised. I suspect he was just of a bygone era. He left us about a year before the texts linking the club to Dank arose.

actually, i think there is a massive public interest story here. not gossip, not tabloid.

wilson, sam lane, robbo, hamish mclachlan, they all skirt the issue, and dont give it any air. no one is willing to bite the hand that feeds them.

wilson only goes public well after the story is out. sam lane is a tabloid magazine journo. robbo is a male groupie. hamish mclachlan is a hanger on.

couple of guys at the age do good stuff. baum and a few others.

but footy media IS NOT journalism.

I think Scott is playing a long game and has been building an ethic to match the swans and geelong and collingwood team cultures, where they always are playing above themselves.

melbourne did not understand that losing a few inconsequential players in terms of their twilight ability in james bruce and mcdonald, really drew down on the bottom line culture synergy of the place.

those players were never going to get them a flag, but if you divest veterans, and especially a guy brock mclean, even shock horror, shane woewodin, the players are the heart and soul of the place, and turn them over you lose that club IP.



I reckon Brad is building an ethic like the Pagan era.

dont rate them as minds, but they are a hell of alot smarter than danny frawley and the idiots that have come through richmond doors before hardwick

That's it. Every club will be looked at. It's a small industry with the same people moving around, so links are there. Bates was the doctor at Sydney as well, so if they have a sniff that he was connected with Dank, even though it was much later, they probably will follow up.

Steve Saunders has worked for half the league, so if they have any issues with him that will give them plenty more work.

Saunders isn't a doctor - but it's an odd argument. North could be investigated because we used to employ a club doctor who now seems to have come under suspicion, but our problem is not listening enough to the club doctor. Even though the only tenuous link we have to the issue so far is through the doctor.

all this is about scapegoats and PR and process. everyone knows you only commission an inquiry when you know the finding.

when the afl, clubs, and administrators air the words process, this is code for "we will reverse engineer the finding we wish, and tick boxes so we cannot get sued like matthew croft"
