Carroll delisted

The Melbourne Football Club has today delisted Nathan Carroll from its playing list.

The Club has reached a settlement in relation to the final year of Nathan’s playing contract. This amount will be included in the Club’s 2008 TPP.

Melbourne will have seven selections in the 2008 National Draft.

Thanks for that mate, good to hear that saga is officially over.
I wonder how much we'll have to pay him out and also (Small chance) whether he gets picked up by the saints.

St.Kilda Saints... the destination for footballers who have "lost their way"

thank god we won't see him playing in the red and blue again... did pretty well for a defender that was under extreme pressure at times with little help... but the way he conducts himself is rubbish...

I was just reading some of the Saints' supporters views on maybe picking up Chopper and was interested to read the following - may obvioulsy be bullshite (it is Big Footy) but is an interesting post:

Here's my 2 cents worth.

First of all I agree with most posters on here that Carroll is a hack, geez even my mate who's a melb supporter let's me know how much he dislikes the bloke everytime melb play the saints.

Just some inside info- I work with one of the melb doctors and I asked him about Carroll. He states that the guy is a really geniune nice bloke and he is grossly misinterpreted by the media. He goes on to say the main issue is Carroll has anger issues due to his father being a war veteran and his relationship with his father is strained to say the least. There are few minor issues but this doctor wouldn't elaborate

He believes that Carroll is a very good footballer and is played out of position at melb, which fustrated Carroll. But the main problem is Melbourne's lack the ''player management'' side of things. He believes Carroll has been dealt harshly. Now he believes if an AFl club with better people management skills and the support a player of Carroll's needs are met, He is 100% certain that Carroll will be more than serviceable.

This Doctor also used Martin Pike as an example. Here is a guy who was an alcaholic and would end up arriving at training sessions drunk. Obviously Melb let him go, but the guy ended up being a 5 time premiership player. Now this is not to say that Carroll is of Pike's playing calibre nor does it mean that Pike did not have ongoing issues, but more along the lines of managing players and to get the best out of them for the team's sake.

Now I still believe Carroll is no good, but if the above is fact and the saints can assist Carroll with his issues, we may see Carroll play his best footy for our club.

Just some food for thought

I would like to believe this is true - being a glass half-full type of bloke - and maybe Carroll could be some form of success at the Saints. If he's played as the third tall defender, not an undersized full-back, with a better midfield protecting the backmen, he could potentially do OK. Stranger things have happened I spose.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I think MFC and Carroll are both better off parting ways and if Carroll gets another gig then good luck to him. No doubt Carroll was an "element" at the Dees but your post Dr hilighting our player management aspects probobly holds a bit of water.

Yes, Carroll may be a good fit at the Saints...and good luck to him...or should I say good riddance.

I must say that I am glad that he is gone from the Dees as I saw him as a pretty bad influence amongst our younger blokes...Brock McLean being the major example.

The episodes with Carroll in Greece, unfortunately I think, put Brock 2 years behind in his Captaincy aspirations....and has robbed us as supporters and the team, of 2 years, of having the right bloke lead this club.

In an older team like the Saints , there will be senior guys there that will put Carroll in his place...and I look forward to that I can tell you.

In a very young team like the Dees, the young blokes need guidance, maturity and professionalism. Not what Carroll dished out .

And I'm so glad that McLean can now properly develop into that leader, without having the likes of Carroll around the club.

A focused McLean, a focused Sylvia and a focused team, etc etc is what we desperately need , instead of jerks like Carroll around the club.

What galls me is the fact that we are picking up the tab to the tune of $250K for dipensing of Carroll's services. Appalling. In fact its disgusting, especially as Jimmy is still going cap in hand, looking for handout $$$ from the AFL.

If Carroll had any conscience he was give at least 50% back to the club. I doubt it though.

I wonder why we have made such bad choices with our defenders over the years. Alastair Nicholson is in the same mould as Carroll. (Both much maligned)

I'm glad that we are rebuilding from scratch. :thumbsu:

Training the house down with the Saints, shaved his head, the mo....total turn over a new leaf or not for long? Would be a good story if he came good (and StK were paying him instead of you guys).
