What the senior coach said … with Peter German
"We kicked 11 goals in the last quarter, which blew it out a little bit more. It was tighter earlier, but it was good that we worked right through until the end of the game, unlike last week, so it was good."

How German rated the Melbourne listed players …

Seniors
Rohan Bail
- Kicks 5, Handballs 15, Marks 2, Tackles 1
– He was down a bit last week, but his game was a lot better. His confidence has been up-and-down a bit this year, but he attacked and took the game on more this week. His and rebound from half-back was good.

Clint Bartram - Kicks 17, Handballs 12, Marks 4, Tackles 8, Goals 1
– Clint played okay. He had 27 disposals, worked hard and really ran out the game hard, winning 11 possessions in the last quarter. Clint continues to try and balance his game between being a run-with and run-off player and he has done that pretty well in the last couple of weeks. He needs to continue to work on his ball use, but overall he was quite effective.

Daniel Bell - Kicks 14, Handballs 18, Marks 6, Tackles 3, 1 Goal
– 'Belly' for the past two weeks has been in our top three players. He really worked hard with 32 possessions and was good around the clearances. He also used his strength and pace to advantage. It was a good four-quarter effort from him.

Kyle Cheney - Kicks 12, Handballs 8, Marks 6, Tackles 1
– Kyle bounced back from a poor performance last week. He played a lot better defensive role and attacked the ball with a lot more confidence, although he is still not quite playing his best footy at the moment. Still, it was a good effort.

Lynden Dunn - Kicks 17, Handballs 7, Marks 9, Tackles 2, Goals 3
– Lynden was good. He kicked 3.2 and played in a variety of roles, including onball, wing and half-back. 'Dunny' also finished with 24 possessions and did some hard work around the stoppages. He was among our top five players on the day.

Paul Johnson - Kicks 14, Handballs 10, Marks 8, Goals 1
– Paul played 70 per cent ruck and 30 per cent forward. He rucked against Tom Bellchambers. He took some good marks across half-back and kicked a goal from a strong grab. He's a big boy at this level and he took that opportunity to use his size.

Jordie McKenzie - Kicks 9, Handballs 8, Marks 4, Tackles 5
– Jordie bounced back from last week, which was probably his worst game. He lacked some sharpness, but he was a lot better this week. He was good around the stoppages and laid five tackles.

Brad Miller - Kicks 9, Handballs 9, Marks 6, Tackles 1, Goals 2
– Brad was okay. He was involved in a three-way rotation up forward, so he was also up the ground a bit. Brad kicked 2.3 and some of his set shots were a little off target, but he also played in the midfield in the last quarter and got a bit of the ball and he was handy.

Michael Newton - Kicks 13, Handballs 8, Marks 4, Tackles 7, Goals 4
– Michael was good again. He kicked 4.3 and was a really good target in the first half, particularly in the opening term. Last week he only had one tackle and second efforts have been part of his game this year, but he bounced back with seven tackles. I think he's had a really good season so far with us and he hasn't done any harm in his chances for further AFL selection.

Shane Valenti - Kicks 8, Handballs 8, Marks 1, Tackles 4, Goals 1
– Shane was tagged, which is not unusual. He probably lowered his colours a little bit, in terms of how he usually goes about it when he is tagged. It was a tough game for him to find and time and space, but we know he will bounce back.

Matthew Whelan - Kicks 5, Handballs 13, Marks 1, Tackles 5
– Matty ran hard and finished with 18 disposals. He used the ball well and played on Leroy Jetta at times in defence, although he had a variety of roles.

Reserves
Trent Zomer
- Kicks 17, Handballs 4, Marks 12, Tackles 3, Goals 5
– Trent probably played his best match for the year. He spent half of the game in the ruck and the other at full-forward. He kicked five goals, took some good marks up forward and showed a steely side to his game. Trent showed he is capable of pushing up to play senior footy for Casey.
