Just watched him play in a scratchy against Souths, we have snared a very good player.

Unlike Caleb Mourish who got by on his skills and struggled to hold anything up forward Casey works hard on the lead, is very vocal, and has a magic set of hands over head.

His kicking skills are neat but he will need at least half a season to build up his fitness base and to get a better understanding of senior footy.

At one stage during the game he stood right in the middle of a Souths huddle at a kick in, all his teammates made sure knew that was a no no, but he simply followed his man.

He showed great skills as a Lead up forward and his resemblence to Buddy Franklin is uncanny, albeit a slightly darker version, he has the frame, the strut and and same kicking style except he is a right footer.

Unlike Buddy, he can take an overhead mark. :thumbsu:

He's like Buddy but a better mark, awesome. :thumbsu:

No where near as smart a player as Buddy and probably doesnt have the explosive pace of Buddy but certainly has a vice like pair of hands.

Didnt see him have a set shot, so hard to gauge him on that point.

Great pickup, thanks reasonable; but I would have liked Freo to follow Melbourne and extent the preseasons of some new recruits such as Walters, Sibo, Ruffles, Hall.
I reckon the lack of fitness and strenght in these blokes could really cost them the chance to be able to play in the next couple of years. Imagine having Walters and Sibo complete two full preseasons by the start of next season:eek: They would be nearly ready to play next year. However I would be suprised to see them reguarly play before 2011.
Oh well, but I just can't wait to see him play in Purple.:thumbsu:

If I recall correctly he shanked a couple of set shots in the intra-club but it looked more like nerves than a poor technique.

Unfortunately through no fault of his own there's a bit of pressure on young Casey because he's just about our only genuine KPP under 23.

Forgot to mentioan in my OP, but he is cut.

Previously I thought he'd need a pre-season or two to be ready build wise but he large enough in the shoulders and has the definition of a 3 year player.

If he can put in a solid few games for Claremont and the likes of Murphy and Campbell dont do enough to hold their spots he is ready strength wise to hold down a KP in the AFL ranks.

Seems to have responded very well to an AFL weights regime and IMO is an indicator of a hardworker.

Impressed to the point that I would hold off on Rookie elevations.

The big question remains then, why isn't he playing against carlton? Is it confidence?

He still very raw.

On occasion he took the superstar route instead of playing the basics, probably saw him attempt 3 one handed grabs when he could have snaffle them with two, but he was very close.

I think fitness is the man issue. Found himself hunched over gasping for air a little too often.

I've only seen him play in the intra-club Stronz and he looked a long way off AFL level.

If he plays this year then it means that he has taken a massive step forward since then or our season has gone down the crapper.

I would say it's more that Sibo is not in contention for Round 1. It sounds like we will be viewing this as a dress rehearsal for Round 1, so there's no point playing a guy who wont be there first up.

Thanks Reasonable, always good to hear how our young fellas are going,
(especially when they show a bit), wouldn't it be good if/when he develops. High hopes is probibly an understatement!!:)

It's just because he is black, Pav. :p

I remember a guy by the name of Neil(Nfa)-Forster Jones, who was a tremendous athlete and machine... as well as front man for 1200 Techniques. Always looked like he spent every day in the gym... but had barely touched a weight in his life.

Just sat next to young Casey, Shaun Mac, Adam Campbell & Chris Mayne at the Demons / Sharks scratchie at Lathlain. He's not huge but has a lovely build for footy.
Mayne had a moon-boot on and was limping :(

I used to sit next to him in one of our classes at school. All bow down before me while I bask in his reflected glory.

Really nice guy btw. Apparently he just missed qualification for the Commonwealth games - which just proves he should have been using his rap career as an excuse to smoke bud or get f**ked up on other stuff every day instead of training. After all, what's the point of being in the music industry if you can't enjoy the perks?

Lol... yeah he was a really nice guy.

The bro and him had some epic battles in many events over many years.

Incredibly talented musically and athletically. His brother and himself did the old Respect Yourself ads when he was 15 or something.

He went away from sport for a fair chunk of time, went east - changed his pet event quite a lot and eventually settled on 110 hurdles when he came back, I think. From memory finished 3rd at the nationals before commonwealths... but probably didn't run a time to get selected, otherwise he probably would have been. Pity there isn't a multi-event for the power athletes and sprinters - he was pretty consistently up there for long jump, 200, 100, hurdles.

And I don't think he would be the sort to take drugs. He was a pretty virtuous type of guy I'm pretty sure.

I feel Sibo may get games this year if our forwardline struggles. He seems to have the build and that unpredictability which may bode well at the next level. Will need to prove himself at wafl level first though but he is the player I'm most excited about of our rookies.
