Geelong has bolstered its coaching staff by appointing former Gold Coast Suns assistant Shane O'Bree to its panel.

O'Bree has spent the past two seasons with the Suns following a stellar playing career with Brisbane and Collingwood.

"I'm really looking forward to working with the club, the coaching staff and the players at Geelong," O'Bree said.

"I have a lot of respect for the club and I will be looking to help the club continue with the success it has enjoyed over the years.

"Working with Gold Coast the past two years has been enjoyable but I am happy to be back home and working with the Cats."

Remember hearing Damien Barrett say on the Footy Show about a month ago we were keen in bolstering our coaching staff, so I guess O'Bree is part of that.

Interesting that he's played alongside both Scott and Lappin at Brisbane, and Caracella at Collingwood.

I think he will be a good addition to the coaching panel. And hopefully he has a good relationship with Caddy from his time at the Suns and can help get him over the line ;)

Was thinking the same thing. They say the Suns poaching Hinkley was one of the catalysts for Gaz to decide to head north. Hopefully us snagging O'Bree can be the catalyst for Caddy to head south.

Congrats guys, O'Bree is a cracking assistant coach. Will do a great job.

What role did O'Bree have at the Suns?

He was our midfield coach. Did a great job fast tracking our young onballers. Will be missed, and now with Hinkley gone to Port, we are now on the market for another assistant coach!

The more coaches the merrier.
Though I must have missed the "stellar playing career with Brisbane and Collingwood".

Re him being the midfied coach
I think the Suns were up near the top re clearances in their first year. Hopefully this rubs off after we were ordinary this year.
I think part of our resurgence in 2004 was the impact that Cresswell had on our on-ballers.....and Scarlett.

Goodo hope that is the case. Always thought he was a bit dopey but maybe he is smart after all.;)

Makes sense , we have a plethora of young Midfield talent. Anything we can do to fastrack their development will be worth the investment.

Good.
I was going to start a thread the other day suggesting our assistants need an overhaul.
Lets get another one and flick Amos.

Is Amos not high-profile enough for you? What reason could you give for wanting to "flick" him? How do you know what he does and how good he is at doing it?

I didn't like the way he coached the VFL side, and I said it at the time.
It's almost like they made him an assistant as a gift after they got Knights.

It's not the high profile so much, it's more the fact that he hasn't played at the top level.
Pretty hard to garner respect from the playing group !

And I think another fresh face / fresh ideas is what we need.

You think a club like ours would just go round handing out assistant roles
as gifts or favours?

Hmmm, how to answer this........yes.
The club isn't one to shaft their own.

You don't get the sustained success that our club has had by giving jobs to mates. You think Brian Cook, Balme and co would be that unprofessional? Not to mention Chris Scott - you think he suffers fools gladly?

So where do we fit Linga in, come 2014?;)

won't be any fitting needed, we will turf out the bloke closest to door and be done with it!

Lingy holds the keys to Geelong...no questions asked :thumbsu:
