Alot of people maybe not aware of this but when Leigh Matthews king hit Neville Bruns and broke his jaw 'off the play', Steve Hocking (our half-back flanker) saw the incident then proceeded to chase Matthews and with one merciless fierce punch broke his nose. Sammy Newman at the time wasn't aware to who broke Leigh Matthews nose but he went on to say that whoever it was should be awarded a medal, such was this a dirty and cowardly act..... Steve Hocking was never charged for the incident.

I remember it....and Matthews running away from Hocking because he wouldn't take him on face to face.

Gutless wonder imo.

It's what I thought I saw, but I haven't watched it back either so wasn't sure if my eyes deceived me.

I only watched it at the game and here's the only account I've seen with footage of if - to me, I still think it's more Bailey saying "bring it" rather than flipping the bird

I'm thinking he'll contest this one

Hawthorn Hubris. Unfounded.
Seeing some comparing yesterday to 2008. Thinking this is the loss that they'll avenge at seasons end.

They've beaten a poor Swans side, Essendon, Carlton and GWS (Tas) by 22pts average... and lost to perennial chokers Port Adelaide.

Very silly argument. This is essentially the equivalent of "People who disagree with my opinion are like crazy flat-Earthers."

People just see things differently.
No thats not the argument at all. You use extreme metaphors to make points clear. It doesnt mean you are suggesting that people agree with the example in the metaphor nor that the example is as extreme, except in the element of the metaphor that is being compared. I.e. an example of people questioning things is not evidence on its own that something is questionable. The example i used is a pretty good example to show your argument is not valid, at least not on its own. You need to provide something more.

In any case both coaches gave managh best on ground. Not top 3. But best on. Hard to argue he was just passable when both coaches give him best on ground.

I just loved the intensity yesterday. Finals like from both sides. It is what separates the top sides from the average ones.

Come to expect that from Geelong-Hawthorn games though. Like someone said before the game, both sides bring it regardless of where they are on the ladder. IMO, our rivalry has surpassed the Carlton-Collingwood rivalry in recent times.

Since 2007, Geelong and Hawthorn have met 34 times (5 of those being finals). Of those 34 games, 21 have been decided by 20 points or less, with 15 being a single figure margin.

Since 2007, Carlton and Collingwood have met 33 times (none of which were finals). Of those 33 games, 14 have been decided by 20 points or less, with 4 being a single figure margin.

They do have the sort of game that, on its day, could trouble us.
A couple of points though…
*Our guys were getting ‘stepped’ a few too many times in impending contests
*They were able to release handballs during tackles, even beyond 360 ( although do we blame umpires for that stuff?)
*I hope that those soft ‘head high frees’ will not be paid by better umpires in a finals context should they arise.
And finally…
*They are team of tossers…

I was there that day, on the wing, so not far from the incident. To set the scene, it was that idiot Mark Jackson, then playing for Geelong (what a waste of time he was) that caused the game to deteriorate into a nasty spiteful state, by continually running up to Hawthorn players and pretending he was going to punch them, then immediately turning away. Anyway, Neville Bruns was completely innocent in all the rubbish going on, and was simply jogging through the centre of the ground and as he passed Matthews, he simply hit him in the head without warning or provocation. It was the worst act I have seen on a football field. The whole game was nasty and unpleasant and I wish I hadn't been there.

In relation to Ollie Henry, I wonder if he's struggling with having to play a different role this year.

In previous seasons, he had essentially been the 3rd target up forward behind Hawkins and Jezza, but with Danger spending more time forward this year, he's dropped down the pecking order a bit as he's now behind Jezza, Neale and Danger.

I seem to remember back in the day Billy Brownless suffered a similar problem when we started playing Gazza at full forward in the mid-90s and Billy was no longer the main target.

My neighbour's youngest daughter went to school with Billy (she called him "Billy Brainless") and they were all very upset when Ablett came and took over the fwd line. I wasn't, haha!

I can't remember Hocking chasing Leigh.

But I can remember Bewsy flying the flag in the middle.
