Hawthorn Hubris. Unfounded.
Seeing some comparing yesterday to 2008. Thinking this is the loss that they'll avenge at seasons end.

They've beaten a poor Swans side, Essendon, Carlton and GWS (Tas) by 22pts average... and lost to perennial chokers Port Adelaide.
It comes from the fact that there was a stat saying every time they start a season with that many wins they make the GF or some nonsense.

I am genuinely enjoying having a few players with character and honesty in the AFL. Baz, Ginnivan (even though he's a twat, he's a great pantomime villain), Ken Hinkley, etc. We can't all be strait-laced Dangerwoods.
Shades of SJ really …it’s all well and good when the club is winning but once the losses pile up abit the fans and media will turn on him

Hopefully he knows that and has good people around him

I was there that day, on the wing, so not far from the incident. To set the scene, it was that idiot Mark Jackson, then playing for Geelong (what a waste of time he was) that caused the game to deteriorate into a nasty spiteful state, by continually running up to Hawthorn players and pretending he was going to punch them, then immediately turning away. Anyway, Neville Bruns was completely innocent in all the rubbish going on, and was simply jogging through the centre of the ground and as he passed Matthews, he simply hit him in the head without warning or provocation. It was the worst act I have seen on a football field. The whole game was nasty and unpleasant and I wish I hadn't been there.

We must have been standing not far from each other GM: as I watched game on wing also not far from where Leigh Matthews 'king hit' (Nifty) Neville Bruns 'as you described' and the other thing I remember about that day is that it got eerily dark when the incident took place in the last quarter adding further to the unnerving, unpleasant and extremely tense atmosphere, the worst day in football I've attended by some margin. It almost felt like some of the crowd were going to rush onto the ground and attack Matthews, it was that bad and it all felt so very real with the bad blood and hatred that had quickly built up over the disgusting incident.

Prob similar to the Carlton fans wanting to kill Milburn.

Technically correct but id say that a 1948 rule is probably due for a modern interpretation. Is attempting to do something really acceptable. Players and the game is totally different. Back in 1948 there was no OOB on the full , no deliberate rushing of the ball … were they still doing place kicks back then?

Attempting to dispose of it when you have no prior? Absolutely it is acceptable. If I want to watch a tackle fest I’ll move north across the Murray and have neck shorting surgery.

Nan also said it was the worst game she ever went to, and she went every week

They really should simplify the rule even more

What that would look like is probably up for debate
If you have prior, it should be holding the ball as soon as you're tackled and don't dispose in my opinion. This whole 'looking around to see if I can find a player to handpass to' is one of the main reasons we see dangerous tackles.

I take back at least 5% of everything I've ever said about razor Ray

Ok maybe 1%

Looks to me like the ball brushed the goalpost even before the attempted handball. That's why the ump signalled "hit the post". That would make any discussion of holding the ball or incorrect disposal irrelevant.

Will be a very tough review for a few players but great team effort to hang on, on very tired legs.

Thought Bowes was solid down back and may have found a spot. Didn’t deviate once where quite a few did (some numerous times).
Paddy mentioned that about Bowes in his normal insta review. Said Bowes was massive in some key moments throughout the game.

Baz has got to stop confessing. Making it easier for the AFL to hit up his petty cash.

Reminds me of my perpetually honest young kid, when you said did you do that? YES.
And you're stuffed.

Yes, you’re absolutely right

Baz is so adorable + honest 😻

He looks so happy to be playing with Geelong

Wonder who will pay his fines this week?
