Sorry to pop in like this, but am keen for some feed back.In this period of greatness for the cats you have built a great rivalery with both the Saints and Hawks.......great games have been played.....:thumbsu::thumbsu:But one thing stands out to me. Against the hawks, the games are hard and tough....but in the end there is complete respect from all players involved. But to my eye the games with the Saints become spitfull and nasty....there seems to be NO love lost between these to sides....
1.Am i right.....
2.And if so , why is it and what started that real hatred of one another....
Cheers Dasher...:footy:

I haven't noticed any out of the ordinary aggro between the two sides. The problem on Friday was caused by one cheap shot merchant who could have been stopped early by the umpires penalising the runt. You'd think they would have learned from letting the Hall incident get out of control a few weeks ago.

I was about to start a rant thread about StKilda, was close to pushing "Submit" until I read your OP. My post would have read.

Why any lasting respect I had for StK is now out the window

Over the past 7 years I have enjoyed the rivalry and healthy respect by both clubs, enjoyed the banter etc. My respect for Stk had dwindled slowly over the years, Friday night was the straw that broke the camel's back.

There is absolutely no excuse to attempt to further injure another player while in the hands of trainers while coming off the field. There is absolutely no excuse to deliberatly break bones in someone's body and to attempt to create further damage. There is no excuse for the "victim mentality" this club has embraced the past week over the Milne saga. I know this isn't the club's fault but there is no excuse for their supporters to turn a blind eye and will not admit one of their own screwed up instead deflecting the issues and bringing up players/past players from other clubs mistakes. At least Geelong's culture had been decent enough to admit wrong doing and worked it's backside off to redeem. Geelong have gone out of their way over the years to show respect for St.Kilda on and off the field. Bomber Thompson has always praised St.Kilda for being a great team. But the treatment Geelong received by the StKilda Football Club on friday night was pathetic, childish to say the least, disrespectful, spiteful, arrogant. I am sorry I just cannot find the right words to really express how angry I am!

To answer your question. Back in the early 00's, Geelong and St Kilda were at similar places financially. Geelong having to rebuild the club from the bottom up, without tanking for draft picks. We've had to rely on middle of the road picks to build the team. On the other hand, StKilda has had high draft picks, were known as 'The Glamor Side of the AFL'. Were constantly talked up by the media how good they were going to be forgetting the hard work Geelong had put in.

Me, alongside with many other faithful Geelong supporters knew in our hearts that Geelong were trying their best to become a great side, stuck with them through and through and are now reaping the benefits having more All Australian's than you can count on both hands, 2 premierships in 3 years (no thanks to your team! lol j/k :p), 2 Brownlow medalists to name a few.

2004 played each other in the NAB cup, StKilda prevailing. However in the 04 season Geelong and St Kilda lost the Preliminary Finals to Brisbane and Port Adelaide. Both were very close games and could have become a 2004 Geel Vs StK GF!

Geelong and StKilda were once the 2 up and comers in the early 00's and now have become the two giants.

Geelong have done everything they can to ensure a healthy club culture, integrity and team orientated thinking. We keep our issues behind closed doors and deal with them maturely. Unlike how Ross Lyon publicly treated Luke Ball by benching him for half of the GF last year and he still managed to rack up about 22 or something possessions. Then to publicly treat him like that, absolutely DISGRACEFUL. Geelong will NEVER treat their players like that. If there's an issue it's dealt with privately to maintain player and club integrity.

I could continue to rant, if I say anything else about St.K I could probably get into a bit of trouble, having said that, I'll end rant here!

Top post mate. :thumbsu:

I guess the Saints have got sick of living in our shadow for the last six years and just threw their toys out of the cot on Friday night.

Cheer's boys and thanx for the insight,.......sorry to the Mods if iv intruded.....:o
I don't think you will be infracted. It was a good question, and perhaps there are others out there that want to know.

Having said that, I'm looking forward to playing against them in September when we have a full squad.

Oh and another thing, this year has been all about St K and having Riewoldt out and how it's detrimental to their lineup. UH HULLO!?!?!?!? Geelong have suffered 4-6 champions out all year and it took the Essendon game last round to finally get noticed. This is another reason why StK shit me.
