A few articles on the cats board stating that the Kangas will go in with a half strength team this week resting the likes of Stevens, Harvey, Grant, Hay, Wells & Thompson to name a few with Archer to miss with injury. Main reason being that they have just travelled to Canberra and don't want the blokes to tire with two road trips in a row. Other reasons include Hay being scared of Kingsley :( whilst the others are going to have a porno night  followed by a fireworks show thanks to stocking up on their Canberra outing.

Cats obviously wont play King, Ottens or H but with an extended bench might play a few youngsters like Stokes, Grima & Gamble.

Also cats & roos are in talks with the AFL to have the winner play a melbourne semi final even if Freo beat the Pies (otherwise Freo would play 3 games at Subi in a row).

Yep, definitely a Joeys line up.

Players already given the weekend off:

Simpson, Harvey, Grant, Hay, Wells, Petrie, Corey Jones, Thompson, Brown, Archer & Sinclair (last 2 injured)

We'll still have a competitive team out on the field (without having any superstars on our list, we have some amazing depth in 06).

Most likely coming in this week will be:

Jesse Smith, Trotter, Perry, McConnell, Rocca, Chad Jones, Jade Rawlings, Swallow, Riggio, Perkins & Thurley.

Likely line up:

B Firitto Perry Gibson
HB Green Rawlings Watt
C Swallow Harris Smith
HF LeCras Jones McConnell
F Trotter Rocca Harding

R Hale Makepeace Rawlings

Int McIntosh, Perkins, Thurley, Riggio, Pratt, Sansbury

Thought the Kangas would have put in a close to full strength side given the fact of being able to have an extended bench.

The cash on offer would appeal to them one would think and with the game going out live on 10, a good win could turn potential members into actual members.

I know it's only the preseason but if you look at most of the sides in it they are fielding their best teams (or close enough to it). Yes there's the travel factor of back to back games but some of the blokes missing out aren't exactly what you'd call veterans that need a rest. You'd think that Wells, Brown & co would cope alright but maybe they have a few niggles that they need to get over before the real action hots up.

I can see where you're coming from, but the club is taking a different approach this year, as we have 'bigger fish to fry'.

1st of all - travel factor. Los Angeles - Canberra - Cairns - Perth (then probably Adelaide or Perth again for a GF if we went all the way). We don't have a scheduled game at home until round 3. Round 1 is also in Adelaide.

The coach is giving all players on the list a guaranteed amount of game time (irrespective of state of play or results) in the lead up to round 1. Needs to see where the youngsters are, and a 'tapered type' program for the squad (as we have got off to flyers the past few years, to hit a mini slump around round 5).

With 2 x non Melbourne based VFL aligned clubs (Ballarat & Tassie), it makes sense to have a close look at the fringe players and recruits now, under senior match conditions.

The prize money would be a bonus, but in the general scheme of things, the extra cash generated from gate receipts and reserved seats by improving on last years 5th place, far outweighs the $100K cheque for winning the NAB Cup.

We won't quite go down the Sydney Swans path, and as you can see from my earlier post, will field a team capable of competing. If we win, a huge bonus (as we'd then start re-introducing a few more senior players the following week).

Now that Laidley has declared his hand early, I wonder if Bomber Thompson will be tempted to rest a few regulars who have nothing to prove at this time of the year.

I would suggest that a North team without Simpson, Harvey, Grant, Hay, Wells, Petrie, Corey Jones, Thompson, Brown, Archer & Sinclair is unlikely to be able to win against Geelong who will only likely be missing King, Ottens, Harley, Playfair and Steve Johnson. It will be a big ask.

Don't forget Riccardi, Mackie & Monica.

Either way, the cats are gunna smash them. I just hope there is no injuries and we get to Round 1 with a complete list, inclusive of Otto, Kingy and Johno.

We're on a hiding to nothing, if we win, we've only beaten the Roos reserves, if we lose, its a disaster!

Still I don't think the inxperienced Roos line-up will change our approach much. The focus is and has been on getting our players ready with little regard to the match result.

However it would be good to make it 3 out of 3 in Cairns, which is rapidly becoming a third home for us.

.

That's what we faced last week (playing the Swans seconds). Mission accomplished. We blooded a few new fellas, got a win (which avoided a trip to Whyalla) and no injuries.

I would like to see the cats rest Scarlett, Mooney, Ling, bartel and a few others as well.
with the likelyhood of going to Perth the following week i see no need to send a full team over, we could send a very young team and possibly still win and then bring back a few experienced players the following week, playing in those conditions and then onto perth isnt ideal and i'd rather our players be physically and mentally fresh for rnd 1 against the lions.

Got to be a good chance. From memory the Kangas have never beaten us in Cairns.:D
