Re: Time For Gumby!

I think the one change that has to happen is Myers coming in for NLM. He is an upgrade in every area and can play the exact same role.

NLM has been good this year - I'd be inclined to play them both.

Ins: Hooker, Heppell, Reimers, Gumbleton, Myers, Del'Ollio (or any combination of)?

Id have;-

OUT: Pears, Lonergan, Melksham, NLM
IN: Hooker, Heppell, Reimers, Gumby

Fletch Hooker Dyson
Hardingham Carlisle Dempsey
Stanton Watson Zaka
Monfries Hurley Jetta
Crameri Ryder Davey

T.Bell Hocking Howlett

Bench: Heppell Colyer Reimers
SUB: Gumby

Lonergan & NLM look like they need a rest, Pears & Melksham badly out of form
Love to see Gumby get a run - it wouldnt hurt the big guys confidence to give him a run before the bye and we have nothing to lose playing him. Gumby and Reimers are certainly dangerous around goal and we could have done with them against the Demons

i would go with this.

dyson, hooker,fletcher
heppell,carlisle,hardingham
dempsey,watson,stanton
monfries,hurley, jetta
delliolo,GUMBLETON,ryder
bellchambers,hocking,zaka

lonergan,davey, howlett, nlm(sub)

in. heppell,hooker,GUMBLETON,delliolio
out: pears,melksham,colyer(all omit) crameri(inj)

being 8-2 and 2 games ahead of 5th spot gives us the luxury of giving crameri 2 weeks off so he is fresh after the bye. while why not throw gumby in even if it is for just 2.5 quarters and then sub him for nlm.

reimers very unlucky but mids have been going well this year, casn't dump them after 1 bad one.

dell gives us more up forward than colyer does. not sure about playing colyer, frooggy and leroy in the same side, dell a little stronger in the body than colyer

We are only 1 game ahead of 5th spot (swans), we lost to Melbourne remember :p

Re: Changes and whatever for Sydney

Your not gonna get anywhere when u have players like NLM (cant see him in a premiership side), Melksham (out of form) and Pears (out of form). Then u have monfries, who just takes up space in the team when u can have someone like Dellolio in the team who can kick goals which will also allow Jetta to move up the field into Monfries position.

In: Hooker, Reimers, Heppell
Out: Pears, Melksham, NLM

Monfries cant be dropped cause he doesnt play shit enough to deserve to be dropped, but just runs around gathering a few possessions. I would bring Dellolio for him, but that won't happen.

Also make sure Reimers plays as a midfielder!

Also I am really looking forward to see Hibberd come back. People forget how good he is. And give Myers another week in the 2s.

Wow.

That is almost certainly the worst post I've read since Saturday night. And there's some serious competition for that.

Did you notice that O'Brien, Hurn, Newman etc. all had poor games against us? What a coincidence!

And gee, our midfield is lacking something. I know, it's Kyle Reimers, the player who will fit perfectly into our accountable, contested gameplan!

OUT: Melksham, Pears, NLM
IN: Reimers (Sub), Hooker, Heppell

Bu-bu-bu those were just down games for those guys.

So Monfries hardens up and becomes more of an instrumental team player, sacrificing his own game, cutting out the diving, and people still aren't satisfied.

Mmkay. Must be Pseudo-Le Cras or GTFO.

In: Myers, Heppell, Hooker
Out: Melksham, Pears, NLM.

Melksham. been very ordinary and has been carried for parts of the year IMO. Time to go back and get some of the basics right. Awareness???

NLM. Not in our best 22. In saying that, i reckon he's played some of his best footy as a sub so maybe an opportunity to try him there if he does play.

Pears. What's going on with this guy? Looks like a local footballer.

Hooker and Heppell both obvious. Myers to come in and provide some more grunt around the ball.

Another couple of weeks for Gumby.

Agree with all of that.

NLM should be a sub or nothing. I know that's not entirely feasible, but that's seriously his best function. Plug a hole, bring some physicality when others are knackered, et cetera.

Colyer or NLM. Never Lonergan. That's just plain old silly.

Re: Changes and whatever for Sydney

Once a whipping boy, always a whipping boy, it seems.

Monfries has done just fine this year. Should be nowhere near being dropped.

Whilst i don't think he should be dropped, i don't think he's 100% locked for the rest of the year. If Gumbleton is to be given a go, i think his position does come under question a little more.

I think the fact that he's not 100% locked in our best side is a reflection of our rise this this year. At this point i've got Davey, Crameri, Hurley clearly ahead. One of Ryder, Bellchambers & Watson is always going to be there. If it's a forward roll, that leaves him fighting it out with the likes of Jetta, Colyer, Gumby, Reimers for a spot. The days of traditional 6 man forward lines are virtually over.

He's certainly not the only bloke capable of playing a defensive forward roll so we'll see what happens.

It's interesting as it seems to be that his brain fatigues as much as his body... Makes some stupid decisions at times and combines that with undiscipline with stupid unnecessary free's against... The sub gives him a quarter and half to go out and be a clean, fresh, one touch player and make an impact.

Monfries has been decent/ok this year, however he would still be in the 14-22 players picked in the team every week and is not immune to criticism or threat of being dropped.

I'd love to see Gumby playing, but would like him to get more confidence in his body playing more VFL for the moment.

OUT: Pears, Melksham
IN: Hooker, Heppell
Sub: NLM

Agreed, if we were dropping players for one game I reckon we'd have to drop about 15 blokes after last Saturday.

If Riemers is to play this week, I would prefer to see him start in the 21, allowing him ample time (and opportunity) to show how he can impact the game. This always sub thing is not always beneficial.

Yeah I reckon.

Also, Loneragn should be in the 21 as well - I'm still pulling my hair out over the decision to leave one of our hardest players as a sub despite the rain last week.

I'd be inclined to have Colyer or Myers as the sub (definetely Myers on the off chance Gumbleton plays).

I was bemused before the game also. Not the game to make a clearance and contested machine the sub.

Yeah its a puzzler.

Easy to point fingers at coaches in situations like this, however I think i'll 'maintain the rage' where it should be directed; at the players responsible for this debacle.

Can't play NLM permanently as a sub. What happens when we have a player go down in the first quarter? He needs match fitness, as do all of our players, which means the sub must be rotated. In saying that, there are certain types of players who should be rotated through the sub role, and Lonergan isn't one of them.

Hooker for Pears
Heppell for Melksham
Reimers for NLM or Colyer

I've seen Reimers twice at Bendigo and he's been very good. Attacking the ball really hard and we need another player who can kick.

Bemusing... For all the things they've got right, there's been 2 things that stand out like dogs balls which have IMO resulted in our only 2 losses that could both have been easily fixed.

1, The coaching and forward setup against Collingwood was puzzling at best. The decision to let Harry O have free reign over a very open Hurley less forward line was crazy.

2, All else being even, Lonergan would be in your firs 10 - 12 picked for a night like that... Perhaps there's something we don't know with regard to his load or a possible niggle that that is just a blatant oversight if it is what it appears to be.

Easy to say now but i'd be confident of getting the points had he started on Sat night... But i'm a big fan of his.
