I would keep the same side, l dont think there is anyone worth considering at VFL level at this stage.

I think our midfield can run rings around North's, as they are close to the worst clearance side in the comp.

Only change worth considering is if Reid was to drop back to play on Ben Brown, then l would bring in Cox.

Can someone explain to me what the point is of pushing Treloar to play through his OP in dead rubbers?

I'd seriously give him 2-3 weeks off with "general soreness" and more if he still isn't feeling 100%
Many of us in supporter land (and Bigfooty in particular) have no issue with "robbing" games from players because we think we know best.
But, those players want to play games, because of the following:
1) Possible brownlow votes
2) Possible Copeland Trophy votes
3) Possible various media/sponsor/ club awards
4) Adds to the tally of games a player plays.

All of the above will contribute to the players CV, and $$$$$. Contracts will probably include bonuses for things like the above, so it would not sit well for us to demand not picking a player that deserves a game on merit, just because we want to see how some other players go.

It would be a sad day if Treloar loses the brownlow by a couple of votes, or we couldn't claim a future F/S because the father fell just short of the required games, or the player ended his career just short of a games milestone (99 games, 199 games, 299 games), and all because we just didn't play him.
If he is injured, and is a liability to the team if he plays, fair enough. But i can see where the club's view is both fair and correct. Pick the best team that you can. This crystallizes the the culture and the players personal remuneration. Nobody can then say "but......." .

We drew against the top team in the comp and lead by 50 points. We'll surely smash a bottom four team who is one of the worst form teams in the comp.

In before six goal belting.
Haven't north got it over us if late?

Why would you drop Maynard?

Have you watched much football this year?

He's in bad form and looks like he's due for a spell.

I've watched a lot of football this year. Probably more than I've ever watched in fact. Thanks for asking

Out: Blair (Omitted), Thomas (Omitted), Goldsack (Rest),
In: Brown, Aish, Cox

Reid to play CHB as backline needs extra height, Goldsack was poor on Sunday and looks like playing CHB is taking its toll, against North not sure we can play him as a KPP given they have Brown, Waite and Daw. Cox takes Reid's place in the forward line. Thomas has been decent since coming back but has been down the last two games and I would like to see Aish given till the end of the season as an inside mid. Would love Kirby to come in but just can't see it this season. Brown to take Blair's role, will probably put up similar stats but at least Brown can improve.

I like to think I am a generally positive poster when it comes to the Pies. I gave your post considerable thought. However;

The last two minutes of the game he played was appalling for a senior player with 150 games experience to his name. It stank of a player who didn't care for the outcome, who was just playing out the final moments of a contract.

I didn't try and look for every minute fault, i just rewatched the last two minutes of the game. What he did when not in possession of the ball was worse than when he won it (and got caught holding it).

If anyone can justify his recall to the senior side twice this year after being omitted I would love to hear why.
That's a really significant charge to lay at the feet of a limited player who if anything has continually shown an appetite to play a designated role for the team. I would strongly disagree with your interpretation of his off ball role. His positioning at the ball ins and ball ups were consistent with what is required at that level. These are highly orchestrated situations in the modern game with multiple roles to be filled. You can see Blair on a couple of occasions in those last 2 minutes take up a position and look around behind him and direct players off screen to where they should go. None of us can know for sure without being privy to the set ups but there is nothing on that vision to make me think Blair is anywhere other than where he is meant to be.

Despite what you think his role is probably not to follow Douglas into the contest but to provide the block to anyone coming out goalside. In these set ups it will rarely if ever be that Blair is one of the few players designated to be receiving the ball. I remember Darren Jolly describing sets ups at boundary throw ins and ball ups in an interview pre season 2012 and talking about how highly structured they are and there are 12 or so roles being designated but only a couple of players are aimed to be the one taking possession.

As to the on ball stuff. He didn't fly in that initial contest from his knees for mine, just went to ground in an attempt to get involved, he then gets up and chases hard, misses a tackle going to ground, bounces up, chases and dives on the ball which is declared dead as it has previously gone over the line. Not really pretty to watch but hardly warrants criticism.

I wouldnt have Blair in the side currently and would love to see Kirby get a run soon. I also know the MC has all sorts of info I dont have and if they dont see Daicos or Kirby as ready for senior footy I accept that. I cant believe that they wouldnt be keen to see what those kids can do once they are ready, especially Kirby, but for now I would defer to their judgement.

Would rather bring in Keeffe instead of Cox and play Reid forward. Brown also isn't big enough to play and I don't see what Aish offers.

Waite is out injured

Not sure why you would drop Shaz? Had 24 disposals ( and 0 turnovers) and while yes he didn't really make a heap of ground, and did go sideways and short most of the time, he finally looked comfortable and confident in finding the ball. Agreed now he has to start making those disposals mean something but at least he now looks comfortable and settled in finding the ball and getting his hands on it, so I wouldn't be dropping him now after he has started to show something.
You're right why would I. I probably wouldn't as he obviously needs to time to settle in and get the pace and confidence in his body at the top level. Merely trying to predict the match committee and their apparent random selection criteria. Might not try to predict anything else for a while.

Having said that I'm really glad they got Moore up. Was quite concerned he was out for a while or could cop another knock to the neck but he played really well for most of the game.

I am concerned about Reid getting smashed by defenders though. He's rarely free of his defender and constantly under contact or pressure. Only seems to get loose on a long lead outside the 50.

It's Kirby time!

Great post, unfortunately you completely missed that he's playing injured and a week or two rest could be best for him and the team long term. Individual acolades coming into consideration is a joke, and not resting a player due to F/S calculations.. wow

We don't set selection strategy based on Brownlow/ Copeland votes. Picking teams with the future in mind is list management 101. It means you move out older guys not in the frame for your next period of contention and bring in younger players who will be; and who need the experience. It's pretty basic stuff! Resting guys who's output is hampered by injury like Treloar for a few games is also a very good idea for both the player and the team.

I'm a big Maynard fan, but he's had a dirty 2-3 weeks now. There's no real sugar coating it. Would still retain him though because he's a big part of our future.

I don't mind this. I agree with Reid going back this week to assist with Ben Brown. The roos also have Preuss and Daw so they are fairly tall.

Cox has been in solid form at VFL level, and with finals out of the picture I'm happy to give him the last month to prove his worth.

My only revision to your changes would be Aish in over Phillips. I thought Thomas was actually ok on the weekend, but Phillips was quiet.

Tough week for selections this week. Blair and Phillips under the pump to retain their spots. Wills should return if fit. Brown missed a game at any level being the carry over so I'd look at him back at VFL level. Broomhead, Cox, Aish, Smith, and Ramsay seem to be the guys putting their hands up at VFL level, Kirby remains in the picture. This early in the week I'd go:

OUT: Blair (omitted); Phillips (omitted)
IN: Wills; Broomhead

The size of their forward line is a concern. Brown, Daw, Waite and Durdin all played against the Dees. Waite will miss with injury, Daw didn't do too much so may miss. Thomas, Goldstein, and Hansen seem to have done well for the Bee's and among the potential inclusions. Wood another who might be rushed straight back to senior footy.

Out: Blair-Elliott (rested)

In: Daicos-Kirby.

Finals are officially gone, time to play the kids.

I've completely given up on the idea of seeing Kirby or Daicos this year.

It's a complete and utter indictment on our coach and selection panel that the leading goal kicker in the VFL who is an indigenous crumbing forward can't get a game in OUR side. A side that happily selects Ben Crocker and Jarryd Blair for senior football.

I can only assume that both Kirby and Daicos have far too much skill to allow them in the seniors. They'd probably embarrass the other senior players with said skill so they're most likely being given time to become miserable in the VFL watching inferior footballers get selected and in turn, the hope is that they lose all confidence leads to their skills being affected.

Daicos moving around fine today apparently and has escaped serious injury.

Great news.

Hopefully back in selection frame this week or next.
Great to hear, looked really bad walking off on crutches at half time on Sunday.

You'd think he would need a full game under his belt though to test the foot/ankle out before being back in senior selection.

It's Kirby time, sorry it is. Give him his one game against a side that itself has plenty of young players. And with Moore, Reid, Elliott and Fasolo up forward he walks in as the fifth forward, not a lot of pressure on him there.

Then after one game (unless he tears it apart) drop Kirby back to the VFL so he can kick 10 against North Ballarat and win the Frosty Miller medal.

All good.:)

So;

Out; Blair (won't happen but should), Thomas (had a few games but Wills offers more IMO)
In; Kirby (wont happen but should), Wills
