Harden them up? 'Back in my day'... we would brick up the bottom of one of those water theme park slides, show TJ and Harding footage of Mitch Clark sliding into the bunker at Subiaco and send them off to toughen up before we'd even contemplate returning them into the side via a rucking position. :D

A slip'n'slide doesn't count as a "water theme park" Freddie.

I would say bring Hendo in, can either play forward or in defense, depending on how our forward structure and norths structure line up. I would more so consider him for defense, leave Brown to start in the goal square with the likes of Polka and Hooper playing up the field out of the 50. Give Brown some space to work in and/or for Polka and Hooper to work back into. If Brown is 50m clear of another lions player, and they sit two guys on him, we should be able to use our numbers through the middle to get shots on goal.

Playing a small forward line (except Brown) might put off north a bit, seems as they seem to play a pretty tall team

Can we really play with a small forwardline? We look best I think when Rich, Drummond and Rischitelli are hoofing the ball long.

All of a sudden we're really low on tall forwards. Brennan and Bradshaw out, Clark tied up in the ruck. Henderson might have to play up there to give that option.

Also bear in mind Gibson did pretty well on Brown last time we played them.

I think the option is there. Polka plays as a good marking forward, perhaps Rockliff could come in as well. We dont need a power forward to mark a ball to have a shot on goal. If north have the tall defenders as we go small, we could really worry them with a bit of pace. We also have plenty of mids who can kick a goal beyond 50m. If we can isolate Brown, he is a chance against anyone, if they play an extra man back, we will have numbers in the midfield. I think its all about making the most of what you have, and making sure that if they have Brown well covered, we look for other options so we dont play into their hands.

However, i did mention to bring Hendo in, because if needed he could play forward or back. We seem to like our 2 big forward setup though, so i wont be surprised to see a few talls come into the team.

It did back in my day, and we were better off for it!

And mine... sadly now days I'm starting to get closer to the fact that my next water theme park might well be an irrigated colostomy. [sorry if you're still having lunch. :D ]

^^^^^^

I'll have what he is having.:thumbsu::D

RICH for the Ruck:thumbsu:

I like it :thumbsu:, Rich in the ruck for sure. He's already the greatest player who's ever played the game, surely he should do alright in the ruck. :p

Better yet, we should draft Robin Nahas to play in the ruck for us next year

Okay back to serious stuff....
As i posted on earlier, the Roo's will probably go into this game with McIntosh, Petrie, Hale and Goldstein, which is four ruckman.
So we have a few options for this week...

We can bring in Hendo and a midfielder (possibly TJ) for Bradshaw and Brennan, and play Clark, Merrett and Hendo rotating through the Ruck, Defence and Forward lines.

Or else we could bring in Tippett (not too sure if he's ready yet) and Hendo, and try and use Hendo in the usual Bradshaw role, whilst Clark goes forward when he needs a breather, with Tippett acting as second ruck.

Rich may make it as a ruckman-but he should really be dropped for his shocking play recently, and be replaced by Matt Tyler who should play as a rover, while Brown and Bradshaw should be dropped back to the u/13's and have Shaun Hart come up from the GC and play as a lone forward.

Proud will be vewy, vewy lucky to hold his spot- unless the rumour that he has photos is true.

After all, what else could explain his continued run with minimal visible success?

Hopefully brennan can play so we can make as little amount of changes as possible.

Out: Bradshaw, Proud
In: Henderson, Hooper

I think we should play Browny in the goal square and put hendo in the CHF role. Wonder if gibson will play a tagging role like he did against deledio last week, or if he'll stand Browny?

OUTS: Bradshaw (hammy), Brennan (ankle), and seen on the tv this morning ‘rest’ Proud (concussion) after being knocked out.
INS: Cornelius, Hendo/Rockliff, Hanley.

I would be very surprised if Cornelius got another game this season;)

Agree 100% with that comment :thumbsu:
If Gibson gets the job, then Browny should drag him back to the goalsquare, which would catch Gibson out as he seems to more of a run with player or athletic backman rather than a proper full-back

why ?? not the kids fault they are playing him at fullback !! he did well last time around, bit stiff to get dropped at the time i reckon

Have to agree with CtD. The kid can obviously play but needs at least another pre-season under his belt (or 2). Voss gave him a taste, but I can't see him getting another run unless....no...I'm not going to jinx it.

I like the thinking, but Brown is too important as the link man for the clearances from the backline. Henderson's just not the same player.

I reckon Gibson will stand Brown no matter where he goes. Brown only got five marks on him last time. The important thing is that Polkinghorne, Sherman and Hooper (if he plays) get to Brown's feet to get the spoils. Those three got eight goals between them when we last played the Roos.

I think Hendo could be a danger man coming into this game if they put too much into Brown. If Gibson goes to Brown, who does that leave for Hendo ? and who would play the spare man in defense ?

Agree with CTD. I thought Ace was only just there on debut and has been remembered more fondly than he deserves in many people's minds because he kicked a couple of goals. Not saying he wont be a player in time, because i hope he will but in all fairness there are a fair few in front of him in the pecking order at the present time.

True, there are others ahead of him in the rankings right now, but there's none with better hands. Think Bradshaw retirement, spot for a genuine one-grabber. That might be the niche.

Hendo doubtful...

Lions skipper Jonathan Brown today revealed Henderson - widely tipped to replace the injured Bradshaw (hamstring) in the Brisbane forward line - had a foot complaint and was at long odds to take on the Kangaroos.

Gee, thats a worry. A bit strange that Voss was talking publicly about him coming into the side. Must have been a late development.

Opens the door for Hanley and maybe Roe, I would think.
