Going to be very interesting how the selectors go here. I'm guessing Warner's pretty much a near certainty to come in, but the player coming out is anyone's guess. I agree Khawaja deserves an extended run in the team but his lack of runs in the tour match wouldn't have helped him. Hughes did well in the tour match, but his twin failures at Lord's might mean he's the man to go. You'd think Smith would be safe with his century, and I can't see them dropping Watson yet despite his struggles. Also to drop Rogers would be stupid considering he was brought in to be the experienced batsman.

Bird and Lyon in for Pattinson and Agar would certainly help the bowling, but I agree with a post above, as the selectors might be reluctant to do this as it would weaken our batting depth.

What value is he providing as an experienced batsman?

How does Lyon over Agar strengthen us in any meaningful way?

Yeah Rogers has certainly has underperformed so far, but at least we know he's not going to throw his wicket away. (missed full tosses aside ;) )

Lyon's the better spinner. Will definitely weaken our batting though. Agar's in the side as a bowler though, and he hasn't performed in that regard. Not sure how bad his injury is, but we shouldn't be playing any bowler who is less than 100% fit.

Lyon has a history of not performing.

Agar bowled very well in the first test. Struggled in the second.

If Agar was below 100% wouldn't he have been rested from the tour match? As it was, he still had better figures than Lyon despite being less economical.

He also got out the better player - the 25 year old, 62 match player who was on 73.

Rather than the 18 year old, wicketkeeper who made 26 on debut.

A relatively high proportion of Lyon's wickets are lower order.

So...... when does the 3rd test start again? I cannot believe it, but the AFL has somehow managed to out-disgrace our batting line up.....

Helped by dropping an absolute sitter off Lyons bowling though ;)

Agar had a dropped catch too didn't he?

I think Warner dropped one at slip, may have been off Agar? Just did find it funny to watch a player drop a catch off the bloke who is trying to take his spot

As I said during the 2nd test thread, this took a lot of work and wasn't easy, but I've found a way to hopefully get us scoring 300.

1. Warner (test average 39)
2. Hughes (test average 34)
3. Khawaja (hopefully continues to average 30)
4. Agar (hopefully average 30)
5. Clarke (actually competent)
6. Pattinson (averaging 30)
7. Haddin (test average 34)
8. Wade(test average 34)
9. Smith (should average 25-30)
10. Watson (averaging 25 over the past 2 years and can't waste reviews if he's down here)
11. Starc (average 25-30)

It was a bit of a battle, but it is possible. Apologies to the bowlers who were left out due to the ineptitude of our batsmen

He had 2 dropped catches and a missed stumping in the first innings I think. Possibly another dropped catch in the second innings.

Apparently, the Aussies dropped 7 catches during the match. So the fielding is ok at least.

Cheers for the info

So that would suggest he clearly bowled better than his figures imply.

We will make two changes to our bowling and that line-up will put up a good showing a probably take 20 wickets.

We will make one or two changes to our batting and that line-up will remain shit and be unlikely to pass 150 before 5 wickets have fallen

I'm only half joking when I suggest agar should bat 3. He's the only guy who has shown any sort of temperament with the bat.

The complete inability of our batsmen to grind out 20 runs off 100 balls when times are tough is staggering. The poms have one decent quick, bat time and overload the work on Anderson. This series is shot, but at least create some question marks over the team for the return series.

Yeah! heck yeah! :karlstefanovicfistpumps:

1. Katich
2. Rogers
3. Clarke
4. Hughes
5. Khawja
6. Warner
7. Wade
8. Harris
9. Siddle
10. Bird
11. Lyon

My other suggestion is that Warner takes up keeping which would allow you to play Watson at 6.

Nah.
Warner is too good a fieldsman.

You'd make Hughes the keeper, especially since he is already our backup anyway.

If Warner comes in it will help our fielding, biggest problem for Australia is we would have the worst slips fieldsmen in world cricket currently.

Following the tour matches my line up

Watson
Rogers - Both openers on last chance
Khawaja
Smith
Clarke
Warner
Wade
Siddle
Harris - due to breakdown, my money is on 4th test though
Agar
Bird

Having Warner in the side gives us another spin option and cosnidering the history of Old Trafford and the fact they've included Monty Panesar into the squad it tells me it will spin.

What we need to do is find a way for him to be allowed to play Shield

NSW can just allow him to be an International player for the season I'm pretty sure.

If that is not possible then that needs to change. I actually think each State team should be encouraged to recruit 1 or 2 overseas player per Shield season. This would raise the overall standard of the competition.
