9 wickets for the match, can't do much more than that.

Admittedly, the deck is Adelaide won't even be close to the mine-field in Hobart.

We saw how good he was in the Australia A game, enough said. Cameron and Copeland before George thanks.

drop North, bring in Hughes to open and drop Watson down the order.

the bowling stocks are thin regardless who you bring in, Bollinger isn't the answer at Adelaide, better off picking George who is in form and will be bowling in conditions at Adelaide that suit him.

Left armers who bowl one wicket ball in a spell will get chopped up on the next pitch, so Johnson out.

Edit: and Clarke is not fit, shouldn't have played this game. Bring the kid in for his debut.

Then play Smith, at least he can bat. Play Smith at 6, instead of North. From all reports Clarke is fit to bowl.

Clarke isn't fit to bat, let alone bowl.
He should have shown real leadership and put his hand up and said he wasn't right to play, would have got him far more respect then risking it like he has and making himself a complete liability.

Want to remind us of George's figures against England? Was bowling party pies all game. He is not the answer, Copeland OR Cameron maybe. I'd prefer Ryan Harris though.

He will be obvious selection in Adelaide. What the selectors have to start waking up to is picking the right people for the right game.

Copeland and Cameron would walk off 2/300 between them here. Ryan Harris' knee is rooted, you can forget him for good.

He is not an obvious selection, he is not a wicketaker at all. He was average in India, horrid in Tassie. He is ordinary. Harris is fit, you pick him whilst he is fit, simple. Copelands stats suggest he'll more likely pick up 5 than go at 2/300!

Disappointing thing is, his career test figures are better than any Australian pace bowler playing in the first test (even when taking first innings stats into account), and certainly compares favourably with what guys like Doug Bollinger, Ryan Harris and Clint McKay have produced so far as well:
  • Stuart Clark - 23.86 average, 94 wickets, 54.74 strike rate, 2.61 economy rate
  • Ben Hilfenhaus - 31.65 average, 49 wickets, 60.20 strike rate, 3.03 economy rate
  • Peter Siddle - 29.48 average, 66 wickets, 58.47 strike rate, 3.03 economy rate
  • Mitchell Johnson - 29.46 average, 166 wickets, 53.98 strike rate, 3.27 economy rate
  • Shane Watson - 28.24 average, 41 wickets, 54.07 strike rate, 3.13 economy rate
  • Doug Bollinger - 23.79 average, 49 wickets, 45.45 strike rate, 3.14 economy rate
  • Ryan Harris - 23.00 average, 9 wickets, 47.00 strike rate, 2.93 economy rate
Considering his great record in Tests, ODIs and T20Is, there could be a case made for Clark to still be representing Australia in all three forms of the game.

O'Keefe and North are both finger spinners.

Completely agree with this...Clark is the closest bowler we have that resembles mcgrath...he would bring the consistency we need and also has a knack for taking a wicket...he should of never been dropped...stupid selectors again

Watson averages 49.88 as an opener.
He averages 24.29 at number 6 and 14.50 at number 7.

Dropping him down the order would be a mistake.

In the immediate future - yes it would be.

In the longer term - if we want him being able to affect games with bat and ball - he needs to bat at 5.

Not certain about Harris... he's already 31.

But he's been one of the form bowlers in recent years and has a tremendous one-day record. AND, he can bat a bit. Certainly can't be any WORSE than Johnson.

When was the last time you saw England 1 for 500 versus Australia in Australia on a 5th day wicket! gotta be some sort of record.
Great century by Mitch Johnson too

we just have to change the attack completely. only one bloke looks like getting a bag of wickets, just have to get rid of the rest. Im sorry but the selectors better act before we are one-nil down in the test series.

not long-term and not if they want to keep bowling him to the level he is. He also now understands he can bat at this level, he never looked like he thought that down the order so I wouldn't be concerned about his numbers. he should be the perfect fit for #6, correct and can hit the ball and be aggressive.

Who cares how old he is?

We need to win this Series, he's proven, he's performed for us before - get him in.

Don't give a shit whether he plays 5 Tests and then breaks down, if he does the business for us now, he'll be a hero.

I'd rather Watto at #4 than #6 to be honest.

Displacing our most reliable and best batsmen for a possible long term gain seems pretty frivolous. Particularly at the start of an Ashes series.
