Changes: Gold Coast vs Fold Coast

I think one thing Simmo struggles with (and the coaching team in general) is being a campaigner and laying down the law when it's required. Being a campaigner is something Mitchell excelled at and I remember at least once last year where he gave the midfield a bake at half time and they came out and smashed the second half. Perhaps we have too many nice guys and we do actually need someone to take on the role of the bad guy every now and then.
It would be hard to drop friends and family who have flags.

For reference.... pressure acts v the cats:

Venables 21
Hickey 19
Allen 19
Masten 18
Sheed 17
Shuey 17
Hutchings 17
Cole 16
Gaff 15
Jetta 15
Yeo 14
Cripps 14
Duggan 13
Kennedy 13
Ryan 13
Petruccelle 11
Sheppard 10
Darling 9
McGovern 8
Schofield 7
Hurn 5
Brander 3
I am glad the stats reflect Venables defensive work. He is the only one i notice who wants to chase and tackle.

Quote FKASC Pressure acts tends to = ineffective tackles or deciding not to tackle IMO. Don’t rate the stat that much. Joshy Hill used to rack em up

Champion Data defines a pressure act as a player putting pressure on the ball carrier, either physically or by corralling, chasing from behind or closing from in front.

So under that definition, Masten gets away with blue murder when he
1. Refuses to tackle and corrals
2. Prefers the opposition to pick up the ball first so he can lay a tackle
3. Uses his one elite attribute to chase and close in

As with so many measures in life, you gotta see into the metric to know whether it is good or bad. It is as clear as mud.

They are players on this list that will never be dropped and if they are dropped, the reason will be manipulated to phrases like "omitted" or "soreness" or managed.

Omitted is just the formal way of saying dropped is it not?

Why single out Masten for this? Half the side didn't rock up last week.

You're forgetting that in order to become a member of the West Coast brethren you must pledge to blame Chris Masten for all of the clubs short comings.

I dont hate Will Schoefield or anything but surely he should get dropped after his terrible performance against Geelong.
Schoey usually delivers when given his few opportunities.

All the issues in recent weeks are the midfield's fault. They need to defend the ball from going inside D50 as quick as it is. Defenders don't have time to zone off.

Since we played those purple losers from Mandurah every team knows that if they butcher the ball like Freo did, our defenders can't bend over to pick it up because they're expecting teams know how to hit an easy target.

Whilst I naturally want our boys to win this weekend, I would be very, very curious to see Simpson's course of action if we were to lose.

For a guys who's team got absolutely smacked by the Cats by 80 points, and was unwilling to make almost any wholesale team changes, he was cheerful almost to the point of smug on the team selection video the club uploaded yesterday.

The Cats game was bad but it wasn’t an 80 point loss.

I stand corrected, the final margin wasn't as huge as I thought it was.

I suppose it always feels like more when when one is sitting at the ground and you see the opposition pummel us, live.

I agree 100% our Midfield needs to up their game, If Shuey, Yeo and Gaffy can play well like they did against Collingwood we can become the great team we were last year.

I think we are just adapting to a different ruck situation , Lycett and Hickey are nearly complete opposites . Hickey was good last week hopefully the players can gel soon , Lycett was a good mark but a crash and bash player / ruckman who developed greatly last season .

Pressure act leading to a turnover is probably a better stat if it exists. Also if you can rack up 21 pressure acts you’d surely be getting more than 3 tackles and 8 touches a game.
