Sidey spoke the other day about being "managed" last year. He thinks it's selector speak for dropped. They've got some slowies in their defence. I think we want to exploit them.

Starcevich is a big out most weeks, but feels really big against us. Wilmot will have to go to Hill and he is always set for McReery which probably means Answerth gets that one. I think Lester has a good record on Elliott, but I imagine he now gets set for JDG. That leaves Zorko on Elliott. There’ll be a mismatch there so long as JDG isn’t sub…

JDG wouldn't have been selected if not fit for the full game.
Given Brisbane's powerful midfield assets, it is great to have JDG in the team, to assist in our midfield counterattack. I think he will perhaps interchange with Sullivan to play midfield/half forward.

It gives our forward line another look with two talls only, and with only one ruck. I understand the premise however of removing a tall and replacing him with a runner, as we need runners to combat Brisbane's running prowess. For that reason, I can also understand why Allan remains, and of course most likely the sub.

It could be that Ed starts the game and works the midfield for the first half. Then a fresh JDG subbed in to give us fresh legs for the second half. Could be a good strategic move.

You still have to account for an injury. Not sold on using the sub to just play an underdone player for a half. You could sub someone on at halftime then in first min of third quarter you lose someone to an injury having just activated the sub and are now a man down.

I think he's just sore but capable of playing if needed.

I do worry when McStay goes into the ruck because it will leave us very short up front.

We do have Elliott who can play deeper when McStay rucks and can play as a leading full forward who is a tricky matchup for anyone while WHE was also effective playing deeper against Brisbane last time around from memory.
If things get desperate we can always stick Billy Frampton forward on his bunny Harris-Andrews .

Selection always throws up surprises. Perhaps we don’t want to go into the game too tall? Will be interested to see if Membrey plays in the reserves since he’s still listed as an emergency.

Allan’s gotta be the sub again unless they think De Goey is not 100%

Footywire lists both DeGoey and Membrey as 188cm so not much change in our height profile

Sully is named on the field he can't be sub will be Allan or Hoskin Elliot i'd say

It’s technically just a squad of 23 at this stage so anyone named can still be the sub.

He is being managed. He's not injured. If we need him he can play but they want to rest him.
I can't understand the angst of people who think it is weird that he is being managed but is an emergency.
It shows the club is being honest. They are not hiding an injury. Just giving the guy a break but still available if we need him.

Fly probably thinks with Brisbane's stacked midfield we need JDG who can rotate in there as opposed to Membrey who can only play forward.
As for Cox, there will come a situation in next few weeks where DC will need a rest or chop out. Would like to see Cox rucking full time in the VFL in the meantime.

Cox still has value and I’m sure this is reinforced.
He’s still a more than capable tap ruckman who can kick a goal.
His opportunity will present again sometime this yr.

I don’t see the point in playing De Goey as sub. He is replacing Membrey. It would weaken our forward line to have him in the vest.
Better to have him start and then come off later in the game if required.

I would have kept Membrey and made DeGoey the sub. Then it gives you the option of subbing him in into either the forward line or the midfield depending on how the game is going.
