In- SPS, H.Edwards, Kennedy, Clark
Out- Yeo, Rotham, Trew, West

SPS to Half back, Edwards in to play on Curnow or McKay. Westy was quiet and Clark deserves a game playing inside midfield.

Duggans skills were deplorable today, he absolutely must be dropped for the blues. It was like he was wearing yellow and black. Not only did his kicking lead directly to goals against but he was a complete momentum killer. Simpson ought be outraged

Out Duggan
In Clarke

SPS get used to life in the backline, son

In- H.Edwards, Foley, Clarke
Out- West, SPS, Rotham

B Bazzo Barrass Hurn
HB Duggan H.Edwards Jones
C Hough Redden Gaff
HF Ryan B.Williams Waterman
F Rioli Darling Cripps
FOLL- Naitanui Sheed Kelly
I/C- Shuey, Petrucclle, Trew, Foley
Sub: Clarke

What about Kennedy?

SPS will be a certainty after today I would've thought.

Out: Yeo, Trew (to sub)
In: Foley, Kennedy

Backs: Barrass, Bazzo, Rotham, Hurn, Duggan, Jones, Foley
Mids: Kelly, Shuey, Redden, West, Gaff, Hough (wings)
Rucks: Naitanui, Williams
Forwards: Kennedy, Darling, Waterman, Ryan, Cripps, Rioli, Petruccelle
Sub: Trew
Emergency: Edwards, SPS, Clark

Good debut from Trew but someone has to go out for Kennedy. Make him the sub.

Considered Edwards for Yeo but we’ve looked better with the smaller lineup. Foley gets the nod over Witherden.
Foley is a worse and smaller version of Rotham so I’d prefer Witherden. Duggan has been playing crap but has kept his spot. He can’t possibly be selected after giving up three goals in addition to poor form and needs to get some form back in the WAFL. I’d rather bring Edwards in and let Bazzo play smaller

Ryan was very disappointing - half-assed efforts with one arm, little desperation, and it looks like if it all becomes too hard for him, he drops his bundle and gives up.
He was playing closer to goals for much of the game with Kennedy out and put in a ton of work making unrewarded leads. Think that partially explains why he was looking a bit more gassed than usual. And perhaps a bit of frustration. Just needed to kick straight and it would've been a decent game.

That said, loved his crumbing goal with a bit of candy. In his first couple of years in the AFL system, he'd fly for 100% of those marks. He's becoming a smarter player.

But I reckon he could become one of the best in the comp if he develops a bit of consistency to his game. It's so frustrating watching him do freakish things and then make basic skill errors that just look lazy.

He’s always been a flaky player. I don’t mean this as a criticism but as an observation. He may not be very motivated by the fact we are out of contention.

In: Edwards Out: Rotham. Edwards to take McKay, Barrass to take Curnow, Bazzo as mobile third tall.
In: Foley Out: Yeo. As close as we have to like-for-like.
In: SPS (from sub) Out: West (to sub)
In: Kennedy Out: Williams. Yes, that leaves us without a proper second ruck, but we already don't have a proper second ruck. Throw anyone in there - Darling, Waterman, Redden, Ryan, Petruccelle...

Trew surprised me at times, and did enough to earn a second game. Duggan had an off day, but does not deserve to be dropped on one game unless playing sore and needing a rest. Gaff has been ineffective, but I can't see him being dropped.

It's a pattern with Duggan, not simply 1 poor game. He has regressed badly since 2019 IMO.

He might flourish under a different system as he has a lot of good attributes. Might be one worth considering in trade talks I think. We could get his output from Nelson at a lower $ contract at this point and might get something of value in return.

I'm really looking forward to this game. If we play well, we could cause an upset, as Carlton is missing a lot of players due to injury.

FB: Hurn, Barrass, Duggan
HB: Jones, Bazzo, SPS
C: Gaff, Kelly, Hough
HF: Cripps, Darling, Waterman
FF: Ryan, Kennedy, Rioli
R: Naitanui, Shuey, Trew
I: Redden, Petruccelle, Jamieson, Rotham
E: Culley, West, Witherden, HEdwards

Probably can lock in SPS for Yeo & JK coming back in.
I wasn't impressed with Bailey, so would give Jamo a go against a subpar ruck division & with JK back won't need resting ruck forward as much.
Depending on weather, we may need HEdwards as cover against McKay/Curnow so could come in for Rotham but not too fussed.
Culley or West as sub.

Excuse the SC related question, but is what's going on with Witherden, is he any chance to come back in any time soon? Looks great on the stat sheet at both AFL and WAFL level, understand they might be cheap stats but surely he's in your best 22 players?

He hasn’t provided the drive out of defence I think most of us were hoping for, add to that his other defensive qualities are pretty average. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised to see him delisted at the end of the season.

Doesn't defend, is slow and gives away at least 3 goals a game through either fluffed 20m passes or terrible decisions or a combination of both.
I had high hopes for him but not concerned if he stays in the WAFL for the rest of the season now. Still have him ahead of Rotham tho.

Should be only a couple of changes this week with Yeo out injured and Kennedy fit to play. With Carlton’s big forward line I’m bringing in HEdwards to play CHB to replace Yeo, with SPS the unlucky one to be pushed out for Kennedy.

Out: Yeo, SPS
In: Kennedy, HEdwards

SPS was fantastic after coming on last week. He can’t be dropped this week.

I was thinking it was between SPS and Trew for the last spot, but now you mentioned it I completely forgot about West. Kennedy in for West is more like it with West being wasted in the forward line, he doesn’t need to play.

Also, would love to see Hough given a run with role on Walsh. Hough just might have the gut running ability to keep up with him, and besides being a geniuine tactic, he could take a lot out of a match up like that.
