They interviewed Longmuir on Sport FM this morning and he said that Duggan would "likely" (his words) be the sub because that was his niche at the moment... $^#&^$&#$%$*^$*&$##%$ THAT!!!!
Some of the coaching staff have obviously been reading the big footy boards.
Can't possibly play Nelson in more than a few games, he'll need a rest ... After all he is only 19.
Can't possibly play Duggan as anything but the sub, he ain't fit enough ... Oh, I mean it's his niche. That will teach Duggan for killing it in a quarter as the sub, now apparently he has been pigeon holed as a one quarter player.

Do GWS have a damaging halfback we'd want Paddy to tag? No one really springs to mind.

As has been mentioned Heath Shaw is the most likely.

Maybe Callan Ward as a hard nut in the midfield but my gut feeling is that his there to look after one of their small forwards or forward rotating mids. There's Smith, Greene, Shiel, Coniglio. Likely to be one of those types.

Reckon nelson would have been ideal for this job, and has better ball winning ability and skills when he has it ...
McGinnity would be next to useless against Ward in the middle ... At least I would have thought.

And Duggan will still get more touches when he comes on in the 4th
was gonna include that in my post but thought it was getting a bit hysterical

I wonder if Duggan would even be in the side if it weren't for the sub rule?

I suspect he'd be playing WAFL. IIRC we tended not to play our first year players for ages before the sub rule came in. I wish Simpson would do a Lyon and pull one of our players from the ground if they're not performing early on, rather than just waiting until the start of the 4th quarter.

You mean like lycett ?

Agreed. But I think Rosa being out is why McGinnity is in.

Not confident at all about this game. So many unavailable with injury and GWS have so many gun draftees playing.
Yeh, can see us losing this one. I do understand what they're trying to do with McGinnity, I just don't think he does the negating job well at all and his poor disposal makes me want to throw things. I'm going to be spewing if Duggan is the sub.

I think simmo is sending a message by picking McGinnity and dropping Lycett. Effort is a non negotiable, it sets a benchmark for the rest of the group.
But at the same time he's setting the benchmark that it doesn't matter if you can't kick for shit, as long as you try hard. That's not going to work either.

Similarities between Gaff from 2011 and Duggan in 2015 are uncanny.

Personally I think from this 22 he is an ideal sub option with McGinnity the best red vest option. Don't forget the Kid's still raw in a physical sense. He's played less than 10 games of senior footy (WAFL and AFL combined). We need to pick a sub until that idiotic rule is scrapped so it becomes Duggan though I'd rather see Josh Hill in the green vest. He played well in limited time last week just like Gaff in 2011 which made him a regular sub particularly early on in the season.

Think Pendlebury summed it up well enough on GameDay last weekend. The sub tends to be the young player/debutant who barring a first half injury has to cool his heels for a half to 3 quarters than adjust to the pace of the on field game straight away after watching it from the pine.

Than you get SUB games like the Dockers and Swans last weekend. Rohan came on just after half time IIRC for Heeney and impacted straight away. Was a big reason behind the Swans comeback. When Mzungu was activated he impacted straight away as well.

Agree with you Nelson would have been great on the smaller Giants forwards but he was going to get rested at some stage soon. Still an emergency so not putting a definitive line through him.

McGinnity on Ward in the midfield has a bit of merit if we told Paddy just to scrag the heck out of Ward and burrow in it every contest that Ward does. Take one for the team because no one else would. The flip side is Ward is dangerous inside 50 and he'd tear McGinnity a new one when pushing forward.

Safe to say Paddy hasn't been picked for his classy ball use and possession winning ability. It's his aggro and ability to perform a task that Simmo and the match committee would love

this gonna be a man down cos mcspuddity wont keep up with shiels .
Ginners to tag Will Hoskin-Elliot . Keeps him away from the centre bounces .

Heath shaw always plays well against us but I would be more inclined to use cripps . Shaw like to run hard up the ground and with cripps pace we might be able to expose him going back to goal

I give a lot of effort. I should play ahead of hill then. Doesn't matter I can't kick the footy.

Philosophically, I don't agree with the premise that a first year player needs a rest because he is a first year player. If his form tapers off or he is injured (or sore), leave him out and say why. Leaving young kids out 'for a rest' just risks messing with their minds IMO.

Ward loves a scrap and I seriously doubt McGinnity could take him (at least within the rules of the game). My money is on Ward tearing him a new one if that is the match up. Or it could be an honourable draw, 23 possessions to 5.

How many do we actually have on the list that are fit to play at the moment?

The 25 named (bearing in mind Nelson is an emergency but needs to be 'rested') plus Lycett, Waterman, Lucas, Barrass, Main, Karpany, Powell (r), Brophy (r), Adamson (r). So 34
