AND your point is.................Criticising the club on the selection without intimate knowledge because they are thinking of resting a young player is REALLY SMART. No doubt you obviously are in the best position to know what is right for young Nelson.

"...young Nelson"

Thanks Grandad. :)

However I don't understand why Lycett is held to that standard and then guys like masten get a free pass. That's not right.
So much this. Simpson did it a few weeks ago after the bulldogs game, too. His continued persecution of Scotty Flycett (and to a lesser extent Bennell) when there are much more deserving flogs in the midfield is really grinding my gears.

Lysett doesn't give a contest - he had to be dropped. Bennell is at the margins on match ups and team balance.

We have other problems but a coach can not change a list mid season.

Big call without knowing what the individual KPI's are for the players concerned.

It's not the fact that Lycett was dropped, it's the hypocrisy of singling him out but when Masten or Priddis play poorly it's all "our midfield needs to improve", however no one is named, the poor mids get a free pass, Duggan remains sub, Colledge keeps performing in the WAFL but doesn't get a shot and McSpuddity comes straight back in.

Big call without knowing what the individual KPI's are for the players concerned.
I don't know the KPIs but it sure seems some blokes are being put up to a much higher standard than their more experienced teammates, which was the point of my post.

Lycetts been terrible this year. It's a kick up the arse that hopefully he takes on board. Completely ineffectual in the ruck so far, and not offered much up fwd either. Hoping he goes back to the Royals and dominates.

Be happy to see NN spending more time in the ruck personally, supposed to be as fit as ever, can't see why he can't play the majority of the game in the middle.

The Opposition Mids hope so as well, they read his tap work better than our guys do.

We actually need to step back and take a few deep breathes.

We do not know what the specifics each player was asked to perform. Unless you know that, all this becomes in an ill informed bitch session. No enjoyable to read and not really adding value.

What has the match committee done so far this year?
They have given 4 new recruits a run.
They have played players in different positions to get greater flexibility of team make-up.
They have ensured that the new boys are not surrounded by too many kids so that the new guys have some confident heads around them.
They have given players a sustained run instead of in-out-in-out.
They have shown faith in McGovern.
They have identified the need to have Yeo in the midfield and regretted having to use him in defence.
They have dropped some players that needed a message.

We have been hurt with injuries to KPD (Brown and Emac), HBF senior heads (Waters and Ellis), senior midfielders (Selwood, Rosa, Hutching) and of course King Jack.

The loss of Selwood, Rosa and Hutchings means that Masten is so so lucky not to have anyone taking his place. Likewise with selecting McSpud Like the rest of the board, I cringe when he is selected and when I look at who else we could of picked, I cringe again.

So some great news with Duggan, Lamb and Nelson. Excellent to see a start of McInnes. Relieved that McGovern is standing so tall. We know the list has flaws. It is being addressed so take some Valium and have a cup of tea!!!

McGinnity in any capacity makes it horrible. He's like herpes at this point ...

You're right I suppose. Would have preferred Hutchings or Colledge. I'm not too fussed about the sub.

I'll just be really disappointed if McGinnity is in the 21 ahead of Duggan.

What sort of tea would you recommend?

Just don't understand why! It's true he had a poor first half in the one game he played this year, but his confidence must be getting hit when he keeps being made a scapegoat. Plus he came back strong in the second half. Has a lot of the attributes that not many others in the team have, great acceleration, poise, good skills, clean hands below his knees. Just feel he adds all the qualities we lack, particularly how clean he is. I mean how many times do we see our midfielders fumble the ball, and what about Brad Sheppard, not sure if it's still the case but he used to be absolutely horrendous below his knees

Nobody should ever comment on players' performance ever.

How can you say that without knowing the specifics he was asked to perform?

I'm guessing Masten's are:

- shit your pants 5 times
- Handpass to team mate under pressure 7 times
- Get out-bodied 4 times
- Turn over 3 disposals

Guy is killing it.

Again...read the thread, I have not criticised the club for resting Nelson, if he needed a rest then rest him, which is what I've said all along. I'm beginning to think you're not REALLY SMART.

As was pointed out before Gaff was sub for 5 games in a row before he got a full time gig so i am not overly concerned if he sub again this week.

I know that's been reported but I don't think it's right. I'm sure he started in the 21 in at least one of those games, maybe two

Edit: Just checked, Gaff started as sub in his first three games, then got a full game Rd 4 vs Hawthorn in Launceston. Bodes well for Duggan :D

Where'd you get the sub stats from? Best I could find was that he played 72% time on ground in that Hawks game.
